2019 NCAA hockey championship tournament

Duluth defeated Providence in the first semifinal, 4-1, with the game winner scored halfway through the third period.

UMass and Denver tied at 1 in the other semifinal.
The inability to win a face off with a 5-3 doomed the Friars.

I would say that as much as the inability for Thompson to get a pass for what would turn into a gimme one timer. Even Buccigross and Melrose pointed it out after the save. This was a really good game until Leaman pulled the goalie to make some things happen and MD blew it open. I will say this...it was nice to be able to turn a really good hockey game on at 5 pm on a weekday that wasn't a replay of last night's NHL game. PC shouldn't hang their heads...they played well and had a good run in the post season...actually from December on.

One recruit.
Sure helps to have a Hobey Baker nominee, 1st round NHL draft pick with a ridiculously good +/1 rating, etc, but even Makar's not solely responsible for umess' turnaround

How did UMass get good this quickly
They hit the jackpot with getting Makar to come to UMass - ironically, recruited by the since-fired (and horrible) prior head coach. Then they hit the jackpot again with getting Makar to come back for his sophomore year.

Carvel is also a legitimately good coach who filled the space around Makar with some very solid recruits and has developed them well. Without Makar they certainly would be nowhere near where they are now, but would definitely be a contender to make the NCAA Tournament.

Duluth is unsurprisingly favored due to a super stingy defense. Kind of ironic when the opposing team just had a defenseman awarded the Hobey Baker. Great storyline. Makar might need his best collegiate game to win this one. I'm cheering for UMass. Let them win a freaking championship in something.

UMD's defense sure came out motivated. Outshooting UMass, 25-12, leading 2-0 after 2 periods. UMass has the Hobey Baker award only to be schooled at the position the player plays.

Umess athletics: Headed to the 21st century’s 3rd decade and still a massive goose egg in top division national championships in any sport.

Puckin’ messholes!

UMass won the 1 - AA football championship under Mark Whipple in 1998
