With the NHL out of the Olympics for 2018 it will be interesting to see what USA hockey does. If they go back to the traditional ways of building the team college hockey programs will take the hit during a olympic year.

The NHL is so tone deaf it hurts. Some pros will go anyway. Ovechkin says he's going to matter what. It'd be cool if players walked out over Olympic participation. It probably is going to depend on the team and the players who are willing to take the risk. The President of the AHL is preparing to loose tons of players if the NHL doesn't go... but again he's saying it will be at the discretion of the players clubs.

The NHL is going to lose players during the 3 weeks of the Olympics no matter what... all the get from not going is just bad press.

Switch Hockey from Winter Olympic Games to Summer Olympic Games and the "problem" is fixed!

That makes too much sense... and Ice Hockey is one of the only huge draws for the Winter Olympics.
