I am sure someone is going to complain about the 5 Uconn players now.

And they are some of the best players to have played at Uconn and in the WNBA. And I think Stewie will do just fine in the WNBA.

I've been wondering about this for several years now.

Why are there excellent white American women playing basketball, about 1/2 the Olympic team is white, while on the men's side, there is probably not a single great American white player? In the past, there were great American white players. Just think of the Celtics a few decades ago, with all time greats Bird, McHale, Walton.

This is a serious question, as I see the lack of excellence in American white male society across the board, from sports to executive board rooms.

I think the answer lies in the "high-self esteem" movement that infected middle class white males.

It is still disproportional to current demographics - but female team athletics as a career is still a fairly new concept and the economics of participation are still fairly high - for men it is still (wrongly) considered a valid avenue of moving up economically by large swaths of minority populations, while education has always been more heavily favored (correctly) by female minorities.

I've been wondering why there isn't some even-ness between/among/within the top 10 College teams WNBA alums on the National Olympic team? It would appear that Uconn's coach has ignored the talent that appears on UTenn, ND, Baylor (ooops Griner), Duke, USCarolina ,
Dayton, Miss St, Texas---one would think that a rule should be made that Geno (and the Committee) should be required to take equal numbers from all the top 10 teams as he has from Connecticut . 50 players doesn't seem too much, does it? Wouldn't that just be FAIR?? (I'll remove my tongue from within my cheek)

No offense, but I find this hard to believe.

Or am I missing a tongue-in-cheek moment?

It is probably that only in the last 20 or 30 years white women who went to college were not deemed to be too lady like to participate in such demanding physical activities---what the male population forgot were the Puritan women, the women who cross the plains, American women were and are a strong stock. Black women, for more than just the last 400 years have always been of superior physical conditioning.
This is not a race Vs race--it's a matter of opportunity and desire.

Makes sense. I wondered why do it only has to be 12 players. Why not 16?

How ironic that eugenics would show up in such a place and time. Just in case the PC police were asleep.

This is one heck of a team! These 12 women are the best of the best and I can hardly wait to see all of this talent on the same floor. May they all stay healthy between now and the Olympics so that they get to enjoy the reward that they have ALL earned by working on their skills through countless hours of hard work and sacrifice.
