2016 Rio Track & Field

Since there doesn't seem to be a T&F thread yet, I figured I'd start one.

Track has started today, and already there has been fireworks in the women's 10000m run. The Ethiopian, Ayana, crushed the world record by something like 10 seconds. That record was one of the ones set by the suspicious Chinese runners of the mid-90s.

In her wake, she dragged quite a few other runners into some of the fastest times ever run. Molly Huddle of the USA finished 6th, 56 seconds behind Ayana...yet breaking the old American record by 10 seconds or so.

That womens 10k was the biggest dopefest i've ever seen. It made an absolute mockery of the sport. The splits were 14:46 and 14:31. Her second half split of 14:31 was an olympic record, for the 5k.

2 ethiopans and 3 kenyans finish in the top 5, and nearly reset the top 5 all time finishes...hmmm. Molly Huddle finishes 6th, and sets the american record. Her 2016 time would have won gold in 2012 (her infamous 4th place finish).

Historic performance in the 400 by the South African...world record and never challenged.
