#UConnFootball gets commitment from Cedar Grove, NJ ATH, QB, LS Nick Zecchino, visited this weekend

Zecchino is a 6'1" 205 lbs Long Snapper from Cedar Grove, NJ. Attends Cedar Grove High School (Bob Diaco's Alma Mater). He was also the team's starting QB and played DB for as well.

Rated as the 22nd best LS in the 2016 class by Kohls Kicking: http://kohlskicking.com/profile/nick-zecchino/20358/

Good genes.... Dad played Center for Tennessee Vols

Will he see the field at UCONN as a d-back in addition to his duties as a long snapper?

Yeah LS first, I'm guessing that they would probably like to see if he could put on a few more pounds (so probably not going to be a DB), but we really needed a LS. Nice pickup - welcome Nick!

Sounds like one heck of an athlete to fill all those positions. Pretty impressive.

Welcome Nick!!

Always said that if I had a boy I'd encourage him to be a LS. Not a glorious position but if you're darn good at it you could likely pick your college. Might be a stretch with that last statement but you could have a long career if you are a darn good LS. Also get a free ride at a good school!

I knew one of the long snappers at UConn. He said it was the best gig ever

Zack Deossie has made a great career at it in the NFL for the Giants.

but UCONNs recruits are all weak.... or so all the recruiting websites would have you believe.

Take a deep breath...

He's a long snapper and I'm guessing those other schools weren't offering scholarships.

This -

"..."If there is guy that has to be ready to roll right out of the chute, it's really Nick," Diaco said. "He has the mindset to do it [and he's] unflappable, tough, gutsy [and] gritty. Part of that is his dad. His dad is a great guy, a hard worker, [he] built a business, [and is] just a very successful guy, but he was the long snapper at Tennessee. So he's been training his son for some time to do this craft and he's excellent. He'll be very, very positive doing those jobs."

Zecchino chose UConn over other Division I schools, including the University of Miami, Florida State University, Boston College and Rutgers and will begin training for the 2016 season after he graduates from Cedar Grove High School in June. ..."

Impressive..
