For kicks, looked at key team stats for this year alongside six full years of history. Of the sixteen data items, right now we are better or equal to our historical best in seven, our scoring defense is off a bit (both in points and percentage), our free throw shooting is off - and two of our driving recipients of fouls (Kia and Gabby) have low percentages.

All in all, the statistical results should make us feel good - and the point distribution and ability of any of the starters to be offensively potent - will give opponents fits. Moreover, going primarily into the league schedule should even "pad" our stats - although I do hope we'll see Ekmark, Gabby and Chong earning more time over the next couple of months.

Sorry - thought the attachment would be original size and didn't realize it transferred so small. Will try to resolve.

Interesting data even if I did go blind reading it!
One error - you highlighted the 'highest' turnover rate and on that statistic you really want to be at the lowest rate so 2014 should have been the boxed number.

Thanks. Are those regular-season numbers? I think the 2002 team has the record for winning margin at 34.5. Given the AAC composition this year, I think that is in jeopardy. It would have been close last year except for our struggles in Omaha against BYU and TAMU. Fortunately, we had KML and they didn't.

As a reminder, KML is 16-1 in the NCAA tourney with all 17 games in double figures. She's one of the post-season greats (who often gets overlooked).

I really like the TO and A/TO stats for last year's team.

I made them a little bigger for you. A little more readable for the over 40s.

For those who like possession-based stats (as I do). Just going back to 2011 on this as I'm using wbbstate's five-year cheat sheet as my source.

2011 - 1.096 offensive points per possession (O-PPP), .699 defensive points per possession (D-PPP), +39.7 points margin per 100 possessions (EffMargin), #11 strength of schedule rank (SOS)

2012 – 1.086 O-PPP, .664 D-PPP, +42.2 EffMargin, SOS 4

2013 – 1.139 O-PPP, .677 D-PPP, +46.2 EffMargin, SOS 1

2014 – 1.158 O-PPP, .675 D-PPP, +48.3 EffMargin, SOS 18

2015 – 1.183 O-PPP, .701 D-PPP, +48.2 EffMargin, SOS 12

UConn is playing a slight bit faster than last year, which makes the defense look artificially bad and the defense look artificially good in raw stats. Still, you can see that the offense is a little better than last year and the defense a little worse, which essentially cancels out. Overall, very comparable to last year's team. Bad news for anyone who took the Stanford game as a sign that UConn was vulnerable

Really interesting numbers, lots to digest- thanks ! I'm not comfortable saying this team is "very comparable" to last years squad. Offensively, last year Stef was relentlessly setting beautiful, impenetrable screens, freeing up teammates and making precision passes from the high post to cutters for open looks and easy layups. Get her the ball at the top of the key, and the offense clicked. This year's offense has yet to demonstrate that same flow and constant motion and an initiator (like Stef) who can be relied upon to get the half-court offense going. Many times this year we have lacked effective motion, great screening and seemed a bit disorganized in the half-court (I think a lot of KML's struggles to find shots is a result of that.) As the season progresses, the kids will become more familiar with each other, with each others' proclivities so they can do more to get their teammates the ball in better position to score, and with the offensive schemes the coaches want to run, but it's still a work in progress. That this team is the highest scoring with the greatest scoring margin in 6 years is really interesting. But at least from this fan's totally subjective, non-statistical perspective, I thought last year's offense was the prettiest to watch in all my years.
No question we are not the same team defensively without #31 protecting the rim.

Everything said about Dolson is true, and there have hardly ever been centers with her various skills. That said, Tuck's and G-Will's (before she was benched) ability to make plays 1-on-1 have offset the loss of Dolson to a large extent so far. UConn can still get it done like the last two seasons. They just have to do it in other ways.
