Maybe this can can be used for some of the football arguments surrounding Kansas or UCONN to the B1G

UConn 28,224 +3%
Kansas 27,282 -20%

It amazes me how nobody mentions how skewed Temple's numbers are from the 2 75,000+ sellouts against Notre Dame and Penn State.

It's easy to go up 89% if you play in an NFL stadium against two of college football's most recognized programs, one of which is in-state!

I compiled the FBS "Northeast" team stats below. Couple things to note:

* As I mentioned above the Temple #s are an aberration, aided by 75K sellouts versus Penn State and Notre Dame.

* UConn is joined by Penn State, Pitt, Temple and Cincy as the only programs to actually increase from their 2014 total.

* Cuse, Navy, Army, BC and UConn are separated by less than 3,000 fans.

Penn State 99,799 +5%
West Virginia 54,826 -3%
Louisville 49,069 -7%
Pitt 48,150 +17%
Maryland 44,341 -6%
Temple 44,159 +89%
Cincy 37,069 +29%
Syracuse 31,104 -21%
Navy 31,669 -3%
Army 30,991 -10%
BC 30,205 -13%
UConn 28,224 +3%
Buffalo 18,457 -10%
UMass 11,124 -11%

4th point - Hosting Clemson and FSU will obviously draw more than hosting USF and ECU. It's the chicken and the egg of the P5 success. That said, even the ACC can't take the stink out of Chestnut Hill.

.-.
Also what is interesting is in Houston, with all the talk that they can bring the Big 12 a rabid fan base and recapture the City for the conference, drew only 33,980 fans on average this season (capacity is 40K).

In a brand new stadium, with a nationally ranked team on the field, that's pretty weak.

Next season with home games against Maine, UVA, Syracuse, UCF, Cincy, Temple and Tulane, I think it's reasonable to expect UConn to be in the 32-35K average, provided the wheels don't fall off and the team is terrible.

Good mix of regional/traditional rivals and a team that may be contending for a conference title should put buts in the seats.

I hope so. I think you are likely a couple thousand high.

You must be expecting the Rent to put in some temporary seating for the big Civil Conflict.

UVA and Cuse I'd hope to be close to sellouts or at least 35k. UCF Cincy Temple should draw well but it really depends on our record.

Cincy's increase is due to their addition of more seats to Nippert. Granted they're still selling out so there's that, but the increase in numbers is due to the addition of more seats.

Interesting stats to look at though.

Temple's attendance boost was mostly because of 2 very pro-visitor crowds for PSU and ND. There couldn't have been more than 20K in the stands for our game down there and that included a few thousand UConn fans who made the trip. For a game to clinch a spot in the AAC Champ Game, that was weak.

Houston's attendance is also very weak. For a team that has been in the NY6 discussion since pre-season, and even some Playoff talk for periods of time, only 34K is not good. They had to practically give away tickets for the Memphis game and the Championship Game didn't sell out. I'm willing to give them a pass on the Champ Game since those tickets all need to be sold separately from season ticket packages, but the rest of the games were no bueno. Hopefully the fans will respond better in 2016 to their team and retaining Tom Herman.

Our attendance needs to get back to well over 30K/game. Our OOC schedule should help sell tickets. I think our fans will want to see UVA and the Fruit. Cinci and Temple should also be very good games with a big impact on conference championship aspirations. UCF is a wildcard game. Tulane and Maine will probably be sparsely attended but hopefully will stay north of 30K.

Our athletic department needs to sell the hell out of season tickets this offseason.
