From what I understand if we are the top ranked team out of the non power we get an auto bid to a BCS bowl.

We have renewed the St. Pete Bowl and Birmingham Bowl.

We just signed the Military Bowl.

We are working on a bowl with the Big 12 in Texas and creating a bowl in Florida. Not sure about any others but I am sure they are in the works.

would really really really really really love to see two bowls against the MWC. They're supposed to be our benchmark comparison, lets play (and beat) them a bunch! They've got a similarly competitive conference from top to bottom and we have a history with trying to take two of their top schools. One bowl game in MWC territory and one in American territory. MWC #2 vs American #2 in Vegas, and MWC 3-6 vs American 3-6 in Boston.

Thanks for the info DSquiz.

So in a good year for the AAC we could be looking at:
#1 AAC -Access Bowl vs. an AQ conference
#2 AAC - Texas Bowl vs. Big12?
#3 AAC - Military Bowl vs. ACC
#4 AAC - Florida Bowl vs. ACC?
#5 AAC - Liberty vs. SEC/CUSA?
#6 AAC - Pizza vs. SEC/CUSA?
#7 AAC - St Pete vs. CUSA?

Three bowls have agreements to take the runner up if the conference champion is in the playoff , Orange (ACC), Champions (SEC/Big 12), Rose (PAC/B1G) when not hosting the playoff. So there are really only 3 remaining slots in the 4 "Big Bowls". You can also count on conference champions from the 'haves" not in the 4 team playoff taking at least 1 of those slots (ACC, Big 12, PAC in years their bowls are semifinal sites), so you are really down to 2 slots. ND is in play for one of those slots (they do not get that slot from the ACC) and as is every other high ranked team from the "haves" as well as the AAC, CUSA, MWC, MAC, etc. So the reality is maybe 1 slot is going to be available in any given year for teams outside of the 5 "haves" conferences, or, in other words, not much different than the way it is now except the BE/AAC is out of the picture.

Pretty optimistic to assume 7 bowl eligible teams.

I'm pretty sure that the highest non AQs was guaranteed a spot in the 'BCS'.

So, Boise or AAC haha.

7 may be optimistic, but I don't think it's totally out of the question with 12 teams.

I understand the sentiment, but I really think that the more we play against the so-called "Power 5", the better it is for our conference. A bowl game against the MW is fine, but I would prefer not to have multiple bowls against them. A bowl game against a "Power 5" opponent is the only real opportunity to prove anything to the nation. If you beat a team from the MW, most people would say, "So what?" If you beat the ACC and the Big12, people will have something to chew on when they think about the quality of our conference...

Is the Pizza Bowl the one in Detroit? Or did they get a new sponsor for B-Ham? It used to BBVA bowl. Just curious b/c the Detroit Bowl was MAC vs B1G but I know a lot is changing.

Yeah it was BBVA Compass Bowl

It was Papa John, is currently BBVA Compass, but it will soon lose BBVA Compass as sponsor. I think this is the last year for BBVA.

Wilner had this as his pac 12 bowl projection before he went on vacation:

Action: Pac-12 announces four bowl partnerships for the cycle of games beginning in 2014 (in order of selection): Alamo, Holiday, Kraft Fight Hunger and Sun.

Reaction I: We’ll assume that affiliations with the Las Vegas and Wild Wings bowls will be announced at some point in the next few weeks, with the New Mexico also a candidate).
Reaction II: With three Big Ten opponents in the top-four games (Rose, Alamo, Holiday and KFH) … and with the Sun dropping down to No. 5 … it’s an undeniable improvement over the current lineup. Yes, fans are frustrated that the conference was unable to secure a high-end matchup against the SEC, but I’d remind everyone that it takes three to tango: The Pac-12 must be willing, the SEC must be willing, and a bowl must be willing. The reality of the postseason structure is that no games in the southeastern portion of the country are willing to partner with the Pac-12 on an annual basis. That’s especially true of the Florida games that host the best SEC teams not in the BCS/playoff.

PAC is also looking at a new potential bowl in LA against the MWC.

Makes sense. A bowl game thrives off ticket sales. Yes, the system is screwed up in that schools are forced to buy allotments and then get stuck with them because many more tickets are cheaper and in better spots on StubHub. However, if you are forcing fans to fly long distances, the likelihood of selling those tickets becomes a lot lower. I'd look for many of these bowls, if they want to survive, to start grouping opponents based on location. The only schools this will hurt are ones like UConn, who have the majority of their conference mates in a different region of the country. This is why getting the Military Bowl is nice because we'll have a closer bowl to travel too. However, I'd rather not be there because it's supposedly for he 3-whatever placed AAC team and we're screwed if we're constantly in that area of the standings. Plus, I'd be shocked if Navy isn't in this bowl more often than not. However, doesn't Navy currently have an auto tie-in with a Bowl (Kraft Fight Hunger?) Is that going away when they join the AAC or sooner?

Some of the matchups/bowls aren't confirmed yet but if AAC gets everything they're negotiating for it should look something like this (minus playoff/access bowls):

#1 Liberty vs B12 #4
#2 Marlins Bowl vs PAC 12 #7
#3-6 Military vs ACC #7-10
#3-6 Compass vs SEC #9-10
#3-6 Armed Forces vs B10 #7-9/MWC #2-3
#3-6 Beef O Brady. ACC #7-10/C-USA #1

With 12 teams in the league beginning in 2015, we need at least one more bowl, preferibly two more.

Aresco: New bowl at Marlins Park 'very likely'

http://www.tampabay.com/blogs/bulls/aresco-new-bowl-at-marlins-park-very-likely/2130790

  • The Miami game would not likely be a spot for the American champion, should that team not land a spot in a top-six bowl in the new format -- one spot will go to the highest ranked champion from the American, Mountain West, MAC, Conference USA and Sun Belt conferences. That spot could be in Memphis, where C-USA's champion has played in the current bowl cycle.
  • Aresco said he's hopeful of being able to announce at least part of the American's new bowl lineup at the end of the month when the league hosts its preseason media gathering in Newport, Rhode Island.

A lot of #7-9's but I'd have to consider this a win for Aresco if it pans out.

Fond memories of the "Pizza Bowl"!!! Beating Spurrier and taking 3 straight knees at the goal line to end it. :)
