So, other than a couple sources, like KenPom and BPI which must be holding onto something weird with SMU, we see some early season unanimity. And I think, by and large, the roughly four tiers here are pretty good. Houston, Cincy, and UCF, provided they take care of business, should be tournament teams. There's room for UConn or Temple if they take care of things outside of conference or get hot inside of conference.

I think you hit the nail on the head in terms of teams that can be tournament teams out of the American. UCF, Houston, Cincy, and then possibly UConn and Temple. I give Memphis an outside shot only because they play a great OOC. UCF has a bad loss already, but did a good last week in Charleston. Houston with a big game to open their new arena next week with Oregon, and Cincy had a good weekend with good opportunities coming up.

This is our season in a nutshell as it seems every year in the American prior to January for us. I mean we did do something good against a number 16 at the time ranked team. Need to follow that up.

Although "field" can have that little shwa "uh" after the "fee" (fee-uld), the standard pronunciation is /fild/ or /fiːld/

It's just a long /iː/ sound in "field," as opposed to the diphthong of "fire" /ˈfaɪər/ (2-syllables) or /faɪr/ (1-syllable). Any time you get a long vowel or diphthong before an "l" or an "r" in English, there's the possibility/likelihood that speakers will add that schwa in. Honestly, I wouldn't trust syllables.com because it doesn't offer the actual, spoken alternatives. "caramel" it decrees is 3 syllables, "crayon," 2. Trust your ear.

I, like you, have always heard it as feel plus D, but have heard the Fi'- eld. And, I'm sure, given the way English works, there are are people you say "feel" as two syllables /fiːəl/.

That tells me it can be either. But then again, when it comes to language I'm a descriptivist rather than a prescriptivist.
