VT up 9 now, the Pack is going down. So much for that #1 vs. #2 matchup on Monday.

whoa. VT up by 9 in OT. I wasn't expecting to see that score when I checked in before UConn game.

Looks like the Cardiac Pack's luck has run out :(

So #2 is going down and I have always said NC State is not for real I’m sorry BUT I do give the BOTD due to their best player being out with covid. Still I’d be excited if I got NCSU as my #1

Just pointing out that Hobby, who started in place of Cunane, has put up 19 and 9—exceeding Cunane’s averages on the season. Can’t write this loss off on not having her; NCST really lost this one for real. Still a solid team with deep potential.

Timeout NC State...Hokies lead, 71-65. 1:00 to go in OT.

73-68...and a technical foul just called on Wes Moore.

Final: Virginia Tech ends NC State's undefeated season, 83-71.

Gave up 26 points in OT, is that for real? Wow!

edit--that's crazy, 57 points in the first 40 minutes, then 26 in the next 5

Well, we kept fouling Aisha Sheppard, who kept on hitting THREEs and sinking FT.

NC State got away from what made them successful in the first half.

A lot of upsets this year and I believe there will be more
Man...it's such a shame we couldn't crown a National Champ last year, w/ several outstanding teams. This year is kind of a big 'ol mess w/ nobody looking elite.

At least State knows they have a capable backup in the post.

It’s a total crapshoot

I could many teams pull off a title. Just got to get hot during the tourney. Everyone has their vulnerabilities, even the top teams.

Hobby was impressive.

I agree with this sentiment in general, although it’s very difficult for me to imagine a national championship game that doesn’t involve two of UConn, L’Ville, SC, MD, and NCST. I’ll also add Texas A&M in there, although I think they rest just outside this pack. I don’t think the PAC-12 has any true title contenders. UCLA is too small and something is off with Stanford.

This loss can be pegged on poor offensive play selection...NC State went away from trying to get Hobby the ball in her battle with Kitley...poor rebounding in the second half and at the free throw line (7 missed FT in regulation). We couldn't afford all of that if our long range shots weren't falling (only 5 of 18 from THREE in regulation).

Oh well...takes a lot of luster off Monday's game.

Assuming Cunane wouldn't have scored more or rebounded more. We'll never know.

Hopefully you'll get your wish so one of us could shut up.

Our main scorers all had off nights shooting the basketball at the same time. They looked tired. It happens.

Yeah #1 seed me too

Certainly possible. But oftentimes when a team loses without a top player, people point to the lack of production as justification. Not the case here. I suppose you could point to Cunane’s defense as a difference-maker.

Many expected NC St. to have a loss on the schedule already given they played at South Carolina. They ran an undefeated record over the halfway point of the season, and this loss isn’t necessarily a bad one.

The bigger issue, in my opinion, is whether Cunane returns healthy and in semi-form at all this season. COVID is no joke.
