As Coach Hurley said: “People better get us now… Because it’s coming.” 1PM: UConn @ Villanova - FOX: I fully expect UConn to take advantage of Villanova’s awful perimeter defense. Between Martin/Jackson/Bouknight we have the size at wing to defend Gillespie/Moore/Daniels. Kentucky @ #19 Tennessee - CBS: Kentucky now riding a two game winning streak, albeit against Auburn and Vanderbilt. Tennessee is a different beast. Freshman future first-round pick Jaden Springer have averaged 22.5 points in his last four. 2PM: #15 Texas Tech @ #23 Kansas - ESPN: Pretty even matchup between two teams who excel defensively (both top-20 defenses). Kansas does not have the skill they are used to having so I expect Mac McClung (17.2 ppg) and the Red Raiders’ other three double-digit scorers to 3 PM: #13 West Virginia @ #12 Texas - ABC: Interesting year for the Mountaineers. Thanks to Miles McBride, Taz Sherman and Sean McNeil, West Virginia has three members of their backcourt averaging double-digits but they do not possess the defensive stoutness of typical Huggins teams (60th overall). Texas is more balanced (top-25 in both offense and defense) and senior wing Andrew Jones has averaged 19.6 over his last five. BYU @ Loyola Marymount - CBSSN: Quietly an underrated WCC game. BYU should be an at-large bid but a loss to LMU (winners of last four) could muddy the waters. LMU is a very interesting team with a ton of size: senior 6’6 245 point-big Eli Scott (17.9p, 8.2r, 3.9a) and sophomore 6’6 250 forward Keli Leaupepe (10.1p, 4.6r) provide some interesting mismatches for BYU, but they have the size to match. 4 PM: Auburn @ LSU - ESPN: After an incredible start, Sharife Cooper has come down to earth a bit (34.7 fg% in last five). LSU is the Villanova of the SEC: all offense, no defense. They’re riding good momentum after a convincing win over Tennessee last Saturday. Old Dominion @ UAB - Streamable on Stadium: Both teams are #2 in their respective divisions within the C-USA. Jaylin Hunter has been getting a lot more PT of late: stats from last five games: 8p, 3a in 26.1 mpg. They also play today at 7:30. Sacred Heart @ St. Francis (BK) - Streamable on NEC website: Just some local attention to Sacred Heart. With only 23.5% of their total minutes returning this year, Anthony Latina has done an amazing job with his mostly new squad. Projected to be near the bottom of the NEC, Sacred Heart is 4th in the conference, 7-5 in conference play. With the remaining games against teams lower in the conference standings, there’s a real chance they can enter the NEC tourney as the #1 seed. This year, only the top-four teams will play in the conference tourney, so the remaining regular season games are big for the Pioneers. Amity’s Tyler Thomas is their stud: the 6’3 sophomore is averaging 19.1p, 5.8r. 2.9a. Trinity Catholic’s Cantavio Dutreil is a magnet under the basket: the 6’7 junior averages 9.6 boards/game. 5 PM: Western Kentucky @ North Texas - CBS Network on Facebook. Top two teams in the C-USA and should be a very good one. This game will also be played 2 PM on Sunday. If you like mid-major ball, this is a must watch/record. Chattanooga @ UNC-Greensboro - ESPN+: The top-half of the SoCon has been very competitive and UNC-Greensboro is currently the top team (10-4 in conference play) but Chattanooga is 9-5. Any SoCon game between UNC-G, Wofford, Furman, Chattanooga or ETSU is usually going to entertain. 5:30: Seton Hall @ Georgetown - CBSSN: Georgetown has had an impressive five-game stretch was wins over Creighton, Providence and Butler. During that stretch, grad transfer Chudier Bile has averaged 14.2p, 6r in that span. 6 PM: Louisville @ North Carolina - ESPN: Both teams are going in opposite directions: Louisville is 2-3 in last 5 while North Carolina is 3-2 in their last 5. This game is a big momentum turning for either squad. Both are similarly matched up: 60ish offense ratings and 30ish defense ratings. 7:30: DePaul @ St. John’s - FS1: Wow, St. John’s is 7-1 in their last 8 while DePaul has just one Big East win. DePaul is wisely giving more PT to their freshmen Kobe Elvis (30+ minutes last two games) and reclassifying ’21 commit David Jones (20ish minutes last two games). 8 PM: #7 Virginia @ Duke - ESPN: Two straight double-digit wins for Duke after a three-game skid, however Virginia is in a different stratosphere compared to the teams they beat (NC State, Wake). Virginia shockingly got destroyed by FSU (lost by 21). Duke isn’t as deep as Florida State, so I’d expect Virginia to win this one. 8:30: Colorado State @ Nevada - FS1: Any game that involves the top-five of the MWC is a good game to watch. Nevada’s backcourt of Grant Sherfield (Wichita State) and Desmond Cambridge (Brown) combine for 34.2p, 8.3r, 8.7a while Colorado State’s sophomore 6’5 255 unicorn David Roddy (15.9p, 9.3r, 2.6a) is their stud. A win for Colorado State will continue to boost their potential at-large bid. South Dakota State @ North Dakota State - ESPN3: Knowing from my in-laws who are NDSU alum, I knew well that these two teams hate each other. All-time great Mike Daum is gone, but these squads are still top teams in the Summit. South Dakota State senior 6’7 210 power forward Douglas Wilson (16.2p, 5.8r, 2a) is a guy who could do damage in the tourney. The first game of this series is tonight at 8:30 on ESPN3. 10 PM: CSU Bakersfield @ UC Santa Barbara - ESPN3: UC Santa Barbara has won ten straight and include notable transfers like Miles Norris (Oregon), Josh Pierre-Louis (Temple) and Ajare Sanni (Pacific), but their leader is senior lead guard JaQuori McLaughlin (16.6p, 5.1a, 40.9 3p%). CSU Bakersfield is their toughest opponent since playing UC Irvine back in December. The first game of this series is played tonight at 11 PM on ESPNU.
