At Idaho.

“The President (Duane Nellis) and I believe it is important to make this move now so we can immediately begin the process of hiring a new coach for the 2013 season,” athletic director Rob Spear said. “We appreciate Coach Akey’s enthusiasm and dedication to the University of Idaho but this is the right move at this time.”

Akey, who is 20-50 in six years with the Vandals, was fired one day after losing 70-28 to Louisiana Tech. Idaho is 1-7 this season.

Akey signed a contract extension in 2010 to keep in through 2014. The Vandals went to the Humanitarian Bowl following the 2009 season, but have won just nine games since.

Per his contract with the school, Akey should receive his base salary of $165,800 annually “until the terms of this Agreement ends or until (Akey) obtains employment, which occurs first.”

dont they know that some ppl on this board think a decision like this is a bad idea?

yes and the proof is that one team out of how many struggling teams fired their coach

houston, gtech and idaho are among those so far to fire a coach. all im asking is some 1 is cut lose now and the rest later.

Idaho was losing 70-10 every week. They gave up 4 rushing TDs inside the 5 in the first 7 minutes yesterday.

UConn sucks but you have no idea how bad Idaho is.

Wisconsin also fired their offensive line coach after week 2.

Not bad for a school that plays home games in a Quonset hut. To be fair, it's a big-ass Quonset hut.

Idaho owes Akey his base salary ($165,796) until Dec. 2014. If Akey gets another job, Idaho owes difference between base & new salary.

Going through Akey's contract: His base salary is paid by state general funds (unlike Chris Petersen). Was due to make ~ $375K this year.

So Akey base salary $165K and outside income $210K. Going to be hard to lure established coach with that salary.

Akey is the 13th lowest-paid coach (total salary) in USA Today database.

... and they are going Indy next year.

Dennis Erickson must have hinted that he is interested in the job again.
