UConn's record in NCAA tournament games?
/At the risk of being that guy, I believe Auriemma's NCAA record is 125-20. The discrepancy, I believe, is that though UConn got to the 2nd round in 1990, that was when the tournament field was 48 teams, and 16 teams got byes in the 1st round. UConn was one of them, and they lost the 2nd round game that year, thus 0-1 instead of 1-1.
EDIT - UConn also got to the FInal Four in 1991 (their 1st, as we all know). They also had a 1st rnd. bye that year, and so their record for that tournament was 3-1 (instead of 4-1 if playing all early rounds).
Your math is excellent - UConn's history in the NCAA's began with the '89 tournament. They lost their first games in both '89 and '90.Someone check my math. 20 losses plus 11 championships equals 31 years, which goes back to 1989? Not counting this year, since they have not lost but also not won a championship, yet. Was that the first year they made the tournament, and they have made the tournament every year since then? Have they eve lost in the first round. Since they have made the sweet sixteen 27 years in a row, does that mean they didn't make it four times? Not necessarily, but I am definitely foggy on the years before 1991.
I believe TN is 136-31Just doing a quick off-the-top-off-head calculation for Tenn ... and I think they have 127 wins !
(and 31 losses)
My own calculation has Pat Summitt's NCAA tournament record at 112-23. Her Lady Vol teams also participated in the NCAA's predecessor, the AIAW tournament, from 1977-1981 (The NCAA women's tournament began in 1982). As far as I was able to discern, her record in the AIAW was 12-6. Thus, Summitt's post-season record (not incl. SEC tournament) is 124-29.I believe TN is 136-31
Pat was 122 and 23
Holly was 13 and 7
Kellie is 1 and 1
UGH, not so funny joke. You're all wrong; final score of the Arizona game.
I didn't include the AIAW years, but I did check all the NCAA tournaments and thought I counted correctly but somehow I messed up. You are correct. Here is the record:My own calculation has Pat Summitt's NCAA tournament record at 112-23. Uconn is 125I thought ESPN flashed those stats during the game. TN - 125, UConn - 124.
Uconn/Geno is 125-21 - the first FF in 1991 Uconn had a bye in the first round so won only a 2nd round a S16 and a E8 going 3-1 not 4-1. There were 48 teams from 1989-93 with 32 playing a first round and 16 teams getting a bye.Thanks.
So
Pat NCAA 112-23, Pat AIAW 12-6
HW/KJH 14-8
NCAA
NCAA/AIAW
- Geno 125-21
- PatS 112-23
NCAA
- Geno 125-21
- PatS 124-29
NCAA/AIAW
- Tenn 126-31
- Conn 125-21
- Tenn 138-37
- Conn 125-21
Auriemma is 125-21 in the NCAA tournament. ESPN is wrong. The 1st round byes in '90 and '91 were accounted for.Uconn/Geno is 124-21 - the first FF in 1991 Uconn had a bye in the first round so won only a 2nd round a S16 and a E8 going 3-1 not 4-1. There were 48 teams from 1989-93 with 32 playing a first round and 16 teams getting a bye.
