    Nika’s Farewell

This is beautiful; I’m touched by it and grateful to see it. It seems too personal to have been shared with the world, though. I sure they both agreed to it, but it’s still very intimate to just put out there.

    Women’s basketball & social media

This is true, but there is another truth. So many of the newly minted social media ‘fans’ are the same people who commented that ‘no one cares’ or worse when there was big news in women’s sports. It smacks of hypocrisy that they are suddenly using the very thing they disdained to now drive...

Players Entering Transfer Portal, As of March 2024

It would seem as though OSU has to be praying that someone hires Rueck away from them. He’s too expensive by WCC standards and if they fire him without cause, they owe him roughly $6MM. While there will be players available in the portal, it seems unlikely that Rueck will be there all that...

Players Entering Transfer Portal, As of March 2024

Take a look at @Dillon77 comments above. I’d add that non-conference commitments are sometimes made years ahead, so it might not be possible in the short run to get games that will make a great schedule. For kids that have only two or three years to play, I can totally understand how they...

    Amari in Transfer Portal

The quote is taken out of context. The full quote is below. Auriemma was asked about high level players leaving and the reply was focused on those players. It was not in reference to the entire team. “There aren’t a whole lot of high-level players coming to play at Connecticut leaving for...

    Amari in Transfer Portal

Super sad about this news. One of my all time favorite plays was the pass Amari made from her bum to Ines for a layup.

    Tenn. has hired....

I agree with those saying that this hire came with tremendous risk. However, UConn once hired a coach with zero head coaching experience and we know how that turned out. My concern is that the Vols won’t have the patience to see this through. She might need a couple of years and the fans want...

How reffing and rules should be changed

I posted on this earlier somewhere else, but stopping the blatant two handed shoves and other extra actions would be a start. Call them for what they are - flagrant fouls. Get two in a game…mandatory one game suspension. That would end them quickly.

Breanna, D and Sue + guests- topic: do you need a natty to be one of the greatest?

Lies, damned lies and statistics: Stewart had a 53% career shooting percentage and Clark 46.3%. Clark’s 3 point percentage is better and she took a lot more shots. Kelsey Plum made 38.2% of her threes and at least mathematically was a better 3 point shooter than Clark, but took less of them...

    Let the Carousel begin!

It’s a big gamble but it has a lot of upside, especially if UT is trying to keep the cost down or they got turned down by other candidates. Oklahoma hired Sherry Coale from Norman High School and that was pretty successful for a while. This a better than getting an unproven assistant because...

Sarah Strong announcing tomorrow 4/6 at 11:00 am on ESPN

I’m not sure why people assume that the coaches didn’t know her decision a couple of weeks ago. She could have told them and then just waited to announce.

    South Carolina is beatable

The only way SC loses is if Cardoso and Watkins both have the worst games of their lives at the same time. Or if NC State manages to shoot 90% from the floor. Even then SC will still probably win.

“The best four in the history of college basketball”

I went back and watched the replay, because I simply couldn’t believe that Mowins could say anything quite so stupid. I’m sad to say that she really did say it. If they were the best four in history of college basketball, you would think they would have at least one national championship to...

    Refereeing...A Plea

There are three things that I find intolerable in the way games are called. 1. Inconsistency- you never know what you are going to get day to day and sometimes within a game. 2. Each league seems to have its own unwritten rules. A foul in one league is BAU in another. 3. Some players are...

In Today’s Game, Should there Be Automatic Qualifiers?

I’ve been thinking about this a bit… In today’s game, does it still make sense to have automatic qualifiers? On the upside, it gives every team at least some hope that they could make the tournament just by winning their league tournament. On the downside, it makes most games in the early...
