    Jeremy Roach Entered Portal

There’s a flattering article about Roach in the Athletic, but if you read it closely, his biggest “accomplishment“ seems to be that he bridged K and Scheyer. On the court, not too much.

    2024 National Championship Media Thread

I’m still enjoying the belated recognition, by some in the national media, of UConn’s recent successes. So here’s another celebration of UConn’s dominance, courtesy of the Palm Beach Post: “Here’s the insane numbers: Over two NCAA Tournaments, the Huskies trailed for a total of 30 minutes, 42...

    Transfer Rankings - The Athletic

The article describes her as posting 2 good years at Arkansas. So if Geno expressed interest, might she be interested in returning to UConn?

Sarah Strong is a Husky! (Part 2)

Yes, and that’s my point. We need some good 6-4, 6-5 bigs, to go up against the best. Jana El Alfy is 6-5, but she‘s recovering from an ACL tear, and hasn’t yet played a minute.

    2024-25 Starting Lineup

My only "contribution" here is to hope that, for the first time in at least three years, there are no season-ending or long-term injuries, and that Geno has the option of choosing the starting lineup from everyone on the roster! [can I get an amen?!]

Sarah Strong is a Husky! (Part 2)

Great, because we need rebounders! It seems like many of our competitors have been getting the best bigs in recent years (Aliyah Boston and Kim Cardoso at SC, Cameron Brink at Stanford & UCLA, etc.), causing our undersized bigs like AE (6'2") to struggle at times.

    4 turnovers

Exactly! In a national semifinal, to have only 4 turnovers, versus 20 assist, is incredible.

I’m looking forward to watching Pardon the Interruption and hearing Tony Kornheiser’s plan Monday night, lol.

    Stats and more stats

I should have included that we ranked 26th in turnovers per game (9.8). So I guess I was surprised that, as few TOs as we have, the margin over opponents wasn’t greater. Maybe teams that press more have a wider TO margin?

    Stats and more stats

I’ve often had the vague feeling that this year’s team plays higher “quality” basketball than some of our other successful teams, meaning few turnovers, many assists, strong rebounding, high shooting percentage, etc. So I finally checked at ncaa.com to see if my impression was confirmed by...

Okay, so now that 90% of the season is over, check out how the “experts” predicted the best teams: AP: Kansas, Duke, Purdue, Michigan State, & Marquette https://www.ncaa.com/news/basketball-men/article/2023-10-16/college-basketball-rankings-kansas-duke-and-purdue-lead-preseason-ap-top-25-poll...

Duke loses (again)...so, Cooper, maybe you want to reconsider?

Once again, despite the usual preseason hype, featuring the usual glut of 4 and 5* recruits (Filipowski, McCain, Stewart, Foster, Schutt, Mitchell, etc., etc.), Duke is NOT in the national championship conversation. After losing to Wake yesterday, they're 21-6, second in the ACC. So I wonder...

    James Bouknight Released

Can someone help me make sense of this “gem” from the Courant? “Police said Bouknight refused to comply with commands once he was awake, and appeared confused for several minutes. He then ate food and crashed into two police cars, according to the police report. A breathalyzer test reportedly...

    Syracuse Fires Coach

I realize college sports today are all about football money, and FSU is enraged at being shut out of the playoffs, but do you think thats enough to make the ACC fall apart? And if that happened, why wouldn’t BC, Pitt, and Syracuse continue hunting for the big bucks, and try to join one of the...

    Syracuse Fires Coach

Entirely different situation! At that point we'd been a dominant program in the BE for many years and had won 4 NCs, so, no, that was clearly an Ollie problem, not a conference alignment problem. Plus, it's easier to fix basketball problems: we have far more 4* and 5* high school kids within...

    Syracuse Fires Coach

Okay, thanks for the correction. Then I advocate that we forget about P4 conferences, and try to join a “Group of Five” conference as a football-only member (because there’s no sense in devaluing our national-caliber basketball programs).

Crawl into a corner and die? No, I want to recognize reality. In other words, while "major college" football has blown up, in terms of both interest and broadcast-rights income, the FBS schools in the Northeast (especially UConn, Syracuse, and BC) have, at best, been on the perimeter for at...

“explain” Texas? I have no idea why Texas has declined so much, but I wasn’t arguing that programs in other parts of the country would never change. My point was that Eastern football hasn’t been strong, on the national level, for decades, and despite the onset of the FBS playoff system (and...

Yes, I’m aware of that, but, of course, Edsall immediately recognized that moving to Maryland, and the Big 10, was a step up.

    Syracuse Fires Coach

Sure, that’s all that 50 or 60 other head coaches need, right? And don’t forget that HCRE 1.0 ended in 2010, and that we were then in the BE, which was never really a “major” football conference (as evidenced by our 48-20 beatdown by Oklahoma in the Fiesta Bowl, ending the term of HCRE 1.0).

Your prediction appears to be 100% accurate. The ex-BE schools have some of the lowest revenues in the ACC and are competitive mainly with the other bottom dwellers in the ACC. Would most fans be satisfied with finishing in the bottom half of the ACC most years? Since joining the ACC in 2013...
