    OT: Anyone here visited Normandy?

Nan, visited Normandy on a river cruise from Paris to Normandy and spent a couple extra days in Paris. Highly recommend the river cruise and depending upon the cruise line, it may have a historian provide an overview of the D Day operation. I have taken a number of river cruises and the Seine...

Former UConn MBB Coach Fred Shabel Passed Away

We were in the same class. Shabel actually came to our dorm to introduce himself and we all had a Q and A session with him. Great guy, great coach and a group of us always went to the frosh game to see his group of recruits. Fun times.

Zags: NBA Scouts on Hawkins, Jackson and Clingan

Great recap, especially on Hawkins. Potential is there, but as you mention he still needs to refine his handle and IMO finishing in the paint.

    Rest in Peace, Bill Russell.

A great player and maybe even a better person and champion of human rights. RIP Bill. You will be sorely missed.

Atlanta signs Tyrese Martin to multi-year contract

Happy for Tyrese. Showed up every night and gave it his all. Nice trip from URI thru UConn to the NBA. He has to be really proud of this accomplishment. As a lot of you said and I agree with, his game may be better suited to the NBA than college.

    Sonoma or Napa?

I asked a friend this same question about 15 years ago as he had visited and enjoyed both. However he strongly recommended Sonoma for it's more rural and laidback atmosphere. Good weather, good food and just a great overall vibe. Loved the entire experience.

    Thank you Polley

In games close in the final couple of minutes, you absolutely need Polley on the floor. Great game and happy for him.

The next four games are a true test of Hurley"s abilities

If you asked me to look at his potential 3 weeks ago, I'd have agreed with you. But, we have now played 24 games this year and he still has not shown any real improvement. What is the old saying that at this point in a season, there are no freshman any more. I root for him as much as anyone on...

The next four games are a true test of Hurley"s abilities

Over the last two games Polley and Hawkins have shot a combined 4 for 25. That is 16 % from the floor and yet we have a number of fans here blaming Hurley for team recent performances. Hurley's not the one shooting at an abysmal clip. Polley is not and never will never be a consistent scorer and...

    RIP Sam Jones

As a kid I remember watching Cousy and Sherman together in the backcourt to start the game and then at some point Red Auerbach would sub in the Jones boys (Sam and KC) and the fun would begin. A pressing defense, especially from KC, and lots of action to free up Sam for his jumper. He had as...

    Providence Post Game Thread

A quick stat, the bench shot 1-13 today (Hawk, Polley and Gaff) and yet I believe all three were in for the final couple of minutes. That lineup will not win any close games. Having Gaff and Polley just kills whatever offense we have. No movement and no sense of urgency.

    Why isn’t Diggins playing?

After closely watching Gaffney trying to play man defense last game, even if he might know the "team defense principles" better, he is too slow to defend quick penetrating guards as we all witnessed. IMO Hurley needs to give Diggins a shot, even if it's only limited court time over the next two...

Kids will be tired. Need to make quick rotations today

You have it right. Kemba and the 2011 team went 5 straight without a day off against tough competition. I can't see this being a major issue, especially with our depth.

UConn Top 20 (Here we go again)

Sheffer and Burrell are both too low regardless of how the rankings were determined. I agree with your old Big East comments and the same logic applies to Scotty as well as Doron.

    First game

1962 in the field house. No idea who they played, but they won. It was my initiation to college hoops and saw Kimball, Slom, Perno, Manning, Comey, Ritter, etc. play. Coming from a fairly small town in metro Boston, I was amazed at the size and ability of that team. Kimball was an absolute...

    Old Orchard Beach

How long will you be staying ? I've been going to Saco which is the next town south of OOB, and for all intents has the same beach as OOB, for the last 15 years. I use a rental property and there are many in Saco at various price ranges and number of occupants allowed, however most if not all...

    New Details on Freeman’s Departure

I remember this as well as Kevin expressed his desire to play the 3, but with a slightly different scenario as background. If I remember correctly, we really didn't have a serviceable 3 on the team at that time, but we did have Saunders who could play the 4. My initial reaction was the same as...

    Leading Scorer Next Season ?

No I don't and that's my point. If it is either Cole or Sanogo, we will be in for a difficult season. If we had a couple of other guys who could average 10 or 12 a game, it would give us more balanced scoring, but I honestly don't see that unless one of the newbies can step up.

    Leading Scorer Next Season ?

Too early to speculate, but if either is our leading scorer, I'm worried. Cole is not a primary scorer and even if he moves to the 2, I can't see him being the leading scorer. He hasn't shown that consistency IMO. I believe Sanogo will be much improved, but having a 5 as our leading scorer means...

    COVID Vaccination

Will there be basketball rule changes in the future?

Prefer this over straightening the arc. It would also cut down on the number of times a player in the corner is called for an of out of bounds.

Jim Christian out @ Boston College

That and the aftermath of when BCU finally broke "the streak" in a regular season game. I believe we played them in the final regular season game or maybe a BE tournament game where they were on the bubble for a bid to the dance. Beat us and they were probably in. We clobbered them and they...

Jim Christian out @ Boston College

All downhill after they fired Skinner who IMO was a pretty good coach. Never understood why they got rid of him unless they had visions of greatness which is a total illusion for anything other than hockey at BCU.
