I dont think it's a sizable minority. I think it's a loud minority and I doubt any of them are decision-makers. There are a lot of apathetic people but I don't think many are left that are actively against the football program. The people that have a say understand the stakes. Saying we don't...
Yes I think nowadays if we were good, people would be happy because it would give them hope of joining a power conference. At this point all of the influential people understand the need to be in a power conference. And you can't compare our spending to teams bringing in 30mm+ on their media...
If we were an 8-10 win team the stadium would be packed and people wouldn't care if we spent more money. Given the results of the last decade I don't blame people who think spending $1 on the program is too much.
UVM has no business being in this game but Duke looks totally lost at times. The circus shots won't keep falling for Vermont but Duke looks like they expected to win by just showing up
Besides the fact that it's an obvious ploy to further consolidate the cash, it's also remarkably stupid and in the box thinking.
Go to 22 teams. Have an east/west or north/south division. Play a round robin. Then do your own conference playoff where they meet up in the finals. I don't see how...
It's worse if they thought it was. There was a 1% chance that when Colorado left everyone else would have decided to stick together. The prisoners dilemma is taught in all UConn 1000 level econ courses. Maybe they should attend some.
I don't think Hurley would want to deal with all the pageantry BS and donor schmoozing that goes on at a place like Kentucky. But who knows. I don't see him leaving but plenty of players and coaches leave ideal situations to chase diminishing returns.
But they're not going to expand right now. They're going to expand when FSU and Clemson kill the ACC. How do you not get this? I'm surprised you're intelligent enough to make an account but can't think 2 steps ahead
"We were a lock until they had better options. But next time when they have better options it'll be different!"
The Big XII presidents were obsessed with adding more "power five schools"
That is all they cared about.
That's the problem. If one gets out they can all get out and then there's nothing preventing a total collapse. It's why you can't do it unless there's some new legal way to bind everyone together
The conference is going to be split between the B1G, SEC and Big XII. Anyone worth associating with will be gone. Why you want to pal around with a bunch of losers after their conference dies is beyond me. Can't wait for a Tuesday night 10:00PM tip vs Oregon State!
Because there won't be any revenue. At the very best you're looking at Georgia Tech, Wake, BC and Syracuse remaining and at that point the conference is dead and they'll have to redo a media deal.
Yeah you're right we should join the conference that's going to be BC, Wake, Tulane, USF, Memphis, Temple, Cal, Stanford, OSU, SMU and WSU. Perfect fit. Brilliant idea.
