Thanks. That explains the ranking for primary care training area in medical schools. And research/clinical?

I'm not disputing your numbers, just interested in a link which shows these comparisons. I know UCin has $200-million-plus/year in pediatric research alone. Cincinnati Children's Hospital, ranked #3 in the country, the UCin's pediatric department.

    Joe Moorhead rumors (and others)

I understand the skepticism over any coach denying he is interviewing or has interest in another job, but Moorhead will likely be next year's big name for a P5 job. Why would he take a non-P5 job, which many here think, even under the best of circumstances is a three-year rebuild? He's one year...

    Joe Moorhead rumors (and others)

Just my guess, but I think Moorhead will stay at Penn State another year (which should be a good one) with the hopes of landing at a Power 5 conference school for 2018. UConn's lack of a major conference affiliation really hurts in this regard.

UConn's Provost leaves to become U. Missouri's President

With even a modicum of good sense, Choi will be such a vast improvement over recent years, that he will be given quite a bit of slack. The Mizzou campus chancellor will be a key hire. But I am optimistic. Peace.

UConn's Provost leaves to become U. Missouri's President

I will accept your critique, but note that the Missouri legislature is often in short supply of "saner heads." That there were only six curators at the time is telling as the legislature refused to even consider three of the governor's appointments to what should be a nine member board. And I...

UConn's Provost leaves to become U. Missouri's President

The whole deal was a clusterduck of the highest order. The ex-president, Wolfe, was an alum and a failed corporate exec. His hiring was puzzling. He started slow and never gave any indication he was going to catch on. Then he hired a campus chancellor, Loftin, the ex-president at Texas A&M. He...

UConn's Provost leaves to become U. Missouri's President

Enrollment woes may continue in Columbia, but the tuition number is deceiving. Through a quirk in residency requirements, any out-of-state freshman can stay in town during the summer, work some hours and gain in-state tuition at Mizzou. It is a big factor is many students fom Chicago going there.

For the first time, I believe we may actually be screwed in the long run of conference realignment

Early 1990s an all sports conference (similar to what Paterno proposed) forms with Pittsburgh, Syracuse, Penn State, West Virginia, Rutgers, Boston College, Temple and Virginia Tech. A few years later, UConn steps up football and joins. Perhaps Maryland and/or UVA are enticed. Would the...

UConn Provost Mun Y. Choi to be named president of the University of Missouri. Can one mean one thing: UConn to the SEC!! Seriously, I have been watching from a distance and lurking on this board. I hope for he best for you guys, but the scenarios seem very difficult. I just wonder, as others...

Zero Trust: Inside Mizzou's Move To The Southeastern Conference

In a Twitter exchange last night the writer revealed the "major AAU institution" asking Missouri to consider joining in a move to the Big East was Kansas. Mizzou officials rejected that suggestion because of the severe revenue reduction that move would have brought.

Pac-12 commissioner Larry Scott addresses the revenue gap with Big Ten, SEC

The problem with a coast to coast conference is the time zone thing. Your proposal would be horrible for the half of the B1G is in the Eastern Time Zone. Sports other than football would be most abused. Michigan, MSU, PSU, Rutgers, Maryland, Purdue, Indina or OSU at UCLA, USC, Cal or Stanford in...

When it comes to conference realignment, there are no more delusional posters than those from west by God Virginia. Isolated market and horrific/embarrassing academic are going to doom the couch-burners in the next shake out. WVU, Iowa State, Texas Tech, TCU and K State are all in for a rude...

Key tweets, and it's all gone to Hell.

@ralphDrussoAP: My theory is 15-20 years from now schools like Bama, Texas, USC, etc will look at Vandys and Iowa States and say, 'Why are we carrying you?' 15-20 is too many years. It will happen much sooner. 64 is too many teams. The greedy ones in charges don't want to cut the pie in that...

Ok that helps explain the ACC deal, but then why did the B1G not grab the Connectict market instead of RU or MD? Nielsen has Hartford/New Haven at 31. Effectively Buying Income ranking is about 31 also.

If the market is so great, how do you explain the ACC taking a look at it and then going with Syracuse, Pitt and VTech? We all of those ACC folks uneducated or very simple? If I was in charge, I would have gone with UConn over Syracuse, by the way.

There simply are not 80 schools that can afford the massive expense that college football is becoming. Besides, those who run CFB are greedy bastards, loath to share money with those they deem unworthy.

I think I read that someplace , but for the Midwesterners in the B1G, the assumption is Rutgers has NYC covered. I hate to keep repeating this, but if Connecticut was that attractive of a stand alone market, it would be in in P5 conference already.

I don't see the break-up in conferences as predicted by Chip Brown. I think the 4x14 or 4x16 will align among the four surviving conferences. I don't see UConn moving the football money meter enough for the B1G. If you discount BTN revenue as you suggest, basketball is a ratings afterthought...

Thanks for the response. The Tier3 is for 1 year? Very nice. But in the B1G much of that money -- for local broadcast and marketing rights, for example -- stays with the school. All of the shoe money does. So much of the math still does not work. The rub, as I see it for UConn, is Rutgers entry...

Don't know other than the obvious grab for large eastern markets. Cable household numbers helped. I am guessing being in the DC Metro and NYC market push was strategy for the upcoming network contacts. What is your thinking?

Except for Texas, I don't see $35 million in any of those. The B1G tried the football brand thing with Nebraska with yet to Be determined results. I know it is not popular on a UConn board, but basketball doesn't have enough swing to justify KU. Otherwise UConn would have landed in in P5...

    changing economics

Not sure that dividing the Big Ten revenue pie to include 2 or 4 more pieces makes sense. Each new school would have to increase incremental value of the conference by more than $35 million for all existing members just to stay whole. How many schools can do that? Notre Dame and Texas, perhaps...

Why don't P5 conferences just kick out their non-performing members?

No way any current P5 school with major investment in infrastructure votes to take the risk. There is no benefit for the bottom half of each conference .

Why don't P5 conferences just kick out their non-performing members?

In every conference, seni-dependable losers are necessary to pump up the records of the premiere schools. That is a little talked about reason for why long-time under-performing schools stay in their conferences. Patsies have their role.

I doubt Oklahoma is going any place without Oklahoma State in their side car and I would bet that is a deal-killer for other conferences.
