    Ms St - Lou thread

Assuming UConn takes care of ND tonight, I don't see how Miss St beats UConn. Can you imagine the difference in Gabby Williams fronting McCowan (vs. Fuehring guarding)? Especially with perimeter ball pressure on their guards making the entry passes difficult. McCowan won't catch the ball 75% of...

I miss the coaching wins thread. Here are the current standings.

Also, UNC is a dynasty that, like Tennessee, has probably seen it's peak: 6 NCs since 2000, but only 1 since 2010. Versus UConn's 9 since 2000-2001 and 4 since 2010-2011.

I miss the coaching wins thread. Here are the current standings.

Entirely different sports (the draw vs. loss is especially problematic), different season lengths/win possibilities, and different competition levels (see also funding, etc), but not an entirely terrible comparison. Dorrance is currently (after the 2017 season) 826-70-38 in 934 games, or (if...

    UConn-Texas Game Thread

Big stat in the first half: Texas 9 assists on 15 FGs, UConn 6 assists on 14 FGs.

    How does UCONN have depth?

There is a very big difference between "Geno will play you in meaningful minutes"-competent and generally competent. For UConn - right now (November) - this is a mid-deep team. For everyone else in the country, this is a ridiculously deep team. That being said, even in the deepest of years...

Not sure if it's possible to know this early, but if the trainer/doctor thought it was Lisfranc, I doubt she would be allowed to walk around and put weight on it.

Why Can't Kim Mulkey get past Elite 8

Very true, and it's interesting to consider Mulkey and Baylor alongside Muffet and ND, who play every junk defense in the book, sometimes to good effect. It seems that the middle ground between Mulkey and Muffet would be the perfect recruiter-coach. Get the talent, motivate/psychologize, and...

Why Can't Kim Mulkey get past Elite 8

Not only that, but her substitution patterns are deflating. If a player messes up (or just doesn't perform optimally), they are taken out, with no chance to work it out on the court. Often a player that entered 3o seconds before, will come out after one miscue. Don't know how you build...

    Syracuse vs. UConn

The first "bigger question" doesn't really matter. Syracuse's game plan is to create more possessions. Efficiency and shooting percentage is not the main objective. Though probably 15-18 shots for Peterson and 12-15 for Sykes. The second "bigger question" is Syracuse's main objective. The third...

    Syracuse vs. UConn

I like Peterson and Sykes to have 20-25 each. They are both solid players. That being said, UConn by 30+.

My Take vs SC (Most Won't Like It)

I don't disagree. My comment was specifically to the framing by the OP.

My Take vs SC (Most Won't Like It)

You can be as fearless as you want, but you have to have the athletic ability to match. Gabby is an outlier athlete, who can do things on the court that 99.9% of the country can't. Lou, while a unique combination of shooter and height, is nowhere near as athletic as Gabby. And at this point in...

    Baylor vs Kansas State

That's fine: UConn will forever rue the amazing well-suited match-ups that would have possibly prevented 11+ NCs. And the other teams can rue never making it there.

    Baylor vs Kansas State

I am so looking forward to it. However, knowing Baylor post-Griner, I fear that the NC game will be UConn vs. Maryland/South Carolina/ND....and we will never know for sure.

    Baylor vs Kansas State

With every game that Baylor plays, I am looking forward more to the rematch with UConn. Of course, a 3-time running E8 team would have to make it to the F4/NC game for this to happen...

Ah hahahahahaha. #AlternativeFacts UConn's defense will make Miss St's look like child's play.

NPOY 2017 not a lock for Kelsey Plum

The big difference between NPOY vs. NSL in recent years past was that the national scoring leaders were on mediocre teams (exception being McCoughtry, and no one was beating Maya that year). Washington is a F4 contender again and has a chance at the PAC12 title. Also, all those players that won...

ND Student Paper: Put UConn in ACC

Obviously such a move has only one criteria that matters: football. However, on a purely selfish note, I would be interested to see the evolution of the AAC in the next 5-10 years, if UConn stays. See if playing UConn (and playing in a conference where, by virtue of having UConn in it, WCBB...

Is Speculating on 2018/19 Season Out of Bounds?

I think people are making too much of Tuck "leaving early". That had as much to do with issues specific to Morgan (getting drafted high without the knee being a huge concern) and to her class (going out with Stewie and Mo) as anything else. I think Z stays: Geno has already talked about her lack...

    Game Thread!

Given the vicissitudes of college tennis (and the time frame of the Miami men's tennis streak), the Penn State women's volleyball record of 109 is pretty close to the pinnacle of winning streaks in college athletics. And it's certainly within the realm of possibility for UCWBB: if they beat...

    Game Thread!

Combination of the two. USF has played no one this season, has a team of underclassmen, and has no one (a la Courtney Williams) that can truly create their own shot and make tough shots against tough defense. UConn is playing very well though (as they have for stretches this season: we'll see if...

If she stays healthy Kelsey Plum will break the record

Also has a chance to break Stiles' single season scoring record of 1,062, but would need to average 28.5 from here on out (for 18 games).

Wow! What a Night..... Where do You rank the Top Teams now?

FSU is a solid Top-10 team. They have gotten better since the UConn game, a game they played without Leticia Romero. Beat a decent Miami team on the road by 15 last night. We'll see how they do against Louisville/Syracuse/Duke/Texas/ND, but they could end up being an E8 team.

Important NY Times article on WNBA

The NYT, which doesn't even cover women's professional sports leagues (like at all), trots out this template every couple years or so, saying the same thing: low attendance, no revenue, etc. They argue it's tough truths, but coming from a newspaper with as little regular coverage as them, it's...

    UCONN possibly landing Batouly Camara?

Yep, agreed. With the pool of kids that fit UConn shrinking every year, he is using the newly expanding transfer market to add kids that do fit UConn, but initially chose to go elsewhere.

    New Conference?

What's also interesting, and can get forgotten sometimes on a WCBB board, is that if the Big12 takes UConn, it will have everything to do with football and TV markets, and nothing to do with WCBB. BUT from a general sports perspective, the tertiary effects on UConn WBB could be more important...

    New Conference?

Kind of ironic that - and no disrespect to Texas fans - the Longhorn Network (at the time of founding, a landmark deal) would prove to be the thorn in the TV market-side of the B12 trying to go big time, to secure a TV/network deal, a conference championship, etc.
