Pac 12 as we know it: 23-24 Season Outlook

Two straight double/doubles so far. Very good passing, better rebounding, really working on her right hand finishing.

    Interesting Opening Day/Week Games

Couldn't agree more. Maybe not quite as good defensively or on the boards, but much better/more balanced offensively with (maybe mostly the same thing) much better passing all around. I'm also pleased to see Tehina looking like her best former self after a really difficult last season in...

    WNBA 2023 Season, Part 2

I think Ionescu was 0-5 from 3 until the fourth, when she hit 3 straight, 2 of them back to back and the third shortly after. Sort of a "that's all folks" sequence. To me, the bottom line regarding the two teams is that Vegas is basically as good as it can be, whereas NY hasn't yet reached...

    WNBA 2023 Season, Part 2

Also this: Across Candace Parker's Timeline @WBBTimeline Satou Sabally, folks. She's the 1st player in WNBA history to finish a game with: 25+ PTS 8+ REB 5+ STL 4+ AST 3+ 3PM https://link.acrossthetimeline.com/stat-HYSuL Finally injury-free: remarkable player; even more remarkable person.

Add Lauren Fields. So the turnover total is now 8.

    Jada Williams de-committs

Madi Connor, Lauren Ware, Paris Clark, and Lemyah Hylton have all entered the transfer portal. If I've got this right, that means that Arizona's entire 2020 and 20221 recruiting classes have transferred out, as well as half of the 2022 class (to date). Since Arizona started 3 5th year seniors...

Couldn't agree more about the Hull sisters.

Ole Miss takes down Stanford (merged)

Maybe this is just me, but I think this is a Stanford issue to some extent. Players arrive, look like gangbusters right away and then sort of disappear for a year or two or three or don't really develop. I think Prechtel falls in the first category, while Jump seems to have been on vacation...

    Sunday March 19 games

Utah from a Pac12 perspective: 1) What press they've gotten has mostly been about their offense, but I think today showed that that can win against a very good defensive team when their 3's aren't falling (they scored lots of points in the paint, and not just Pili); 2) they are also a much...

    Sunday March 19 games

I don't think she can stay another year at Stanford, although she could, I suppose, go elsewhere as a grad transfer.

    Sunday March 19 games

I agree--and not just for ball handling, since Lexi did turn the ball over a bit, but for their (the Hull twins') intensity (especially Lexi) and the fact that Lexi's fearlessness took a lot of pressure (I believe) off Jones.

    Pac 12 tourney

Was Aronette Vonleh one of the players Barnes "encouraged" to transfer at the end of last season or did she decide to do so herself? She certainly seems to be playing well at Colorado.

    Pac 12 Conference Outlook

You, and every Duck fan I know. There are probably lots of reasons for the team's failures, beginning with losing their starting center before the the first game, but the most telling imo is that the Paopao of the last two seasons cratered beginning with the team's visit to her home city right...

    3.0 Night - very impressive

This has been my experience, both as a student (in the 60s) and as someone who taught at two public post-secondary institutions for a little more than 4 decades. One example: when I graduated from a private school in New England in the 60s, the highest GPA in my graduating class (about 450...

    Pac 12 Conference Outlook

Yes, but if Oregon State can find some decent guard play going forward (and TVO recovers her 3-point shot), they will be a really formidable team as long as Beers and Gardner stay put. Not only are these bigs really "big," they are also really good (already). (And Mitrovic, despite her...

Yes, it was really impressive. Stanford is night and day without or with Brink on the court.

    Pac 12 Conference Outlook

I think Oregon really got away with one tonight. Rogers had one of her worst games of the year, and I guess Paopao was mostly ok, but Hanson was money off the bench and VanSlooten manged 13 and 7 while dealing with ankle issues. If the team doesn't play much better Sunday WSU will leave with a...

    UCLA defeats Oregon 82 - 74 Observations

As I understand it, the reasons for Isai's decision, and especially the timing of it, remain a mystery. As for the latter, here is the timeline: Jennah flew with the team to the Christmas tournament in San Diego and attended the team dinner that evening. At some point between the dinner and...

    Pac 12 Conference Outlook

A Good day for both Oregon teams. Beers is the real deal: doesn't look or play like a freshman and imo is already one of the best posts in the conference. And speaking of posts, Oregon's Phillipina Kyei had 20 rebounds, 3 assists and at least two more blocks than the 4 officially listed...

    Pac 12 Conference Outlook

Not sure how this works out tier-wise, but I'm a bit more optimistic (maybe hopeful is a better word) about Oregon, assuming they stay healthy. If they are a 4 seed, then I think they will make the Sweet 16 (probably their ceiling unless the bracket is favorable); maybe even a 5, depending on...

    2022 Non-UCONN WBB News

Quick clarification for those not especially familiar with the Pac 12: "both awards" = Player of the Week and Freshman of the Week. Also, these stats are from back-to-back games against Arkansas and Ohio State, not cupcakes.

    Big Games: Week 5

I did watch, but haven't looked for a replay (and don't want to) so my memory is kind of hazy on this. To start, Philly generally takes only 6 or so shots/game and some of those come from offensive rebounds. Against OSU her reactions seemed slow, and she also seemed tired, especially in the...

    Big Games: Week 5

I agree, and prefer 12; but once upon a time there were in fact 11: One down before the season started (Prince), one lost for at least half the season in the first game (Basham), and 1 puzzling exit Tuesday night (Isai). That's not what the doctor ordered.

    Big Games: Week 5

Ohio State over Oregon by 17. Clearly the better team, at this point, won, but I also think 3 games in 4 days is asking too much of a roster of 9, then 8, that starts 2 freshmen and an inexperienced sophomore. Thus, I think, the Ducks shot about 21% from 3 (well below their season average of...

    Big Games: Week 5

Just as an FYI, the Oregon players had to deal with a real shocker prior to today's game, when, sometime between the team dinner Monday night and the game today (or maybe at the dinner), one of the freshmen, Jenna Isai, suddenly announced she was leaving the team. Apparently, even her 3...

    Big Games: Week 5

The Pac12 HBCU games provide a not-to-be-missed educational opportunity, especially for those Pac12 teams lucky enough to visit one of the HBCU campuses. I know that Oregon felt that basketball was perhaps the least important part of its trip to Southern in November, and I suspect other teams...

    Big Games: Week 5

What I find a little puzzling is that Barnes starts 5 seniors (two of them 5th year seniors, I believe) with a 6th senior (also 5th year), really a 6th starter, coming off the bench. (At least this seemed to be the case in the Kansas game.) One would think that it would be easier to mesh all...
