I’m thinking about buying a large share of NFLX. I will sell if they blow away earnings estimates and I will hold if it falls post earnings report.

Easy, TSLA. If you could guarantee regulation is off the table, I’d say tossup between AAPL and AMZN. Both are just incredibly well run and have such strong consumer demand. But I think regulation is coming.

    Covid Adjustments

Booked a dirt cheap 7 night trip to Hawaii in May. It flies the last week in November. We’ll see. Luckily both the flight and hotel have free cancellation.

Wells Fargo, United, and Delta are all looking good to me but I’m not in it for the super long-term so I’m skeptical. I think all 3 are locks to double within 5 years.

Insurers are making out just fine with COVID. Many are doing so well that they are crediting members since utilization is down. I also work in the industry and premiums are largely going down for year 2021. Sure, COVID treatment is costly but people are avoiding the doctor for reasons other than...

I’ve been keeping an eye on Cigna and Mastercard. Both looking pretty good to me. Cigna is down over 15% in the past month.

    OT: Changes at ESPN

Exactly. Jemele Hill was, and still is, unbearable to listen to regarding sports. She can’t report on a single story without incorporating race into the conversation. Max Kellerman, just forget it. I can’t stand the dude. He adds nothing to any topic.

    OT: Changes at ESPN

ESPN isn't even about sports anymore. I used to watch SportsCenter every day before school, every day when I got home from school, and I fell asleep to it. Nowadays I can't even watch a single show without getting irritated. Every program is now centered around politics or social issues. When I...

OT: Mahomes signs 10-year, $400+ million extension

Dude is worth every penny. Barring injuries, I say he’s a top 5 QB of all-time before he retires. Seems like a good guy too.

Hurley suggests the season shouldn't start on time. Clearly, he should retire!

The main point I’m trying to make is that it’s ridiculous how these schools will charge full tuition for fully online when it’s worth a fraction of in-person learning. If I was still at UConn, I’d either take community college credits or take a gap semester and work.

Hurley suggests the season shouldn't start on time. Clearly, he should retire!

Most of, if not all, professors AND students hate the idea of online only classes. But these schools need their money so I don’t think it matters to them.

    2021 Recruiting: Mac Etienne

‘21 PF: Akok (30), Springs (10) C: Sanogo (25), Javonte (10), Springs (5) 2022 is tough. I’d assume either Sanogo or Akok will be gone.

Hurley suggests the season shouldn't start on time. Clearly, he should retire!

To be fair, the US is testing at 2x per capita of Europe. That's not an excuse for our outbreak, just a simple fact. I think our extremely high number of deaths compared to the rest of the world is a blatant combination of refusal to wear masks and states requiring nursing homes to take covid...

Just saw Dr. Gottlieb said this virus will only pass with either a vaccine or built up immunity...I don’t think either is happening by November.

That is where it gets tricky. The virus isn’t going away. When we reopen, community spread will occur to at least some extent. It comes down to weighing the benefits and risks but I’ll leave that to the experts. We have done a great job on this thread of keeping it away from the cesspool!!

    Stock trading

Did a little trimming today. I'm a fairly short-term investor so I'm not sure I can take another huge drop, which I fear is coming. I plan on selling everything I own within 2 years. I love everything I own long-term but I'm not in the game for that long so I can't afford to wait it out. Looking...

Best Bacon Egg + Cheese in CT?

I’ll give it to everyone on here who said Country Cow. I had only had it once before this thread began and thought it was only decent. Now since reading this thread I’ve had it over 40 times (serious) and it’s my favorite by a mile.

I broadly agree with this. I think we're approaching a point where we're going to have to live with the virus. We just have to do it responsibly.

    Back to School

Yes, I’ve read about the effects, talked to people who have had it, and talked to a good friend who is treating patients. The virus is no joke. Luckily in my experience many people don’t have these effects, but many also do. It’s not something to be taken lightly. I’m not saying that because the...

    Cam Newton to the Pats.

Right, I should’ve worded that better. He just fell off really quick. His accuracy last year was among the worst I’ve ever seen. I think he’s landing in a good spot now.

    Back to School

It’s mostly elementary and secondary school-aged kids mentioned here. However college kids are only 1-2 years removed from HS so I’m sure some of it will be relatable. Those in their 20s and 30s have a near zero death rate of the virus. I think that’s the silver lining in the recent outbreaks...

    Cam Newton to the Pats.

I was a big fan of Cam early in his career. I thought he had superstar potential. Then he developed severe throwing accuracy and ego issues. I think there is potential for him and if there’s one guy to get it out of him, it’s BB.

Reopening will cause an uptick in cases among young and working aged people. There’s no way around it. It comes down to cost-benefit analysis from the experts. Here’s a great article from the American Academy of Pediatrics. It discusses mostly grades K-12 but some can be related to college...

Ray Allen with some strong words on UConn..

I have talked to a few friends from Hartford and Bloomfield that say they want greater investment in their communities but without decreasing police presence. In short they want better policing with greater community investment.

Ray Allen with some strong words on UConn..

Right, but when you say things like "most people don't know what defunding means," that's too broad of a statement. Not everyone in favor of defunding has the same idea as you.
  32. JimHurley

Ray Allen with some strong words on UConn..

OK, but don't think that your idea of "defunding" is the only one out there. Please read the NYTimes article on abolishing police and tell me that some people don't want there to be no more police. Plenty of people want that and that's scary.
  33. JimHurley

Ray Allen with some strong words on UConn..

Again, never have I argued for more police on this site. If Ray feels safer with fewer police, is that just the end of the discussion? Ray Allen wants less police so let's have less police? I'm in favor of things like having mental health professionals responding to calls for mental health...

Ray Allen with some strong words on UConn..

I'm not implying to throw out more police. I'm advocating against cutting police in favor of scholarships for sports that lose the university money. I don't see how that's controversial. Slightly unrelated, but I also find it funny how some want to cut police funding in favor of community...

It truly is. This quote also gets me, "The cut to the UCONN PD is not only essential to the students at UCONN, but also, simply put, wanted." Like...really?
