I would want to keep my kid out of that city. It has started to regress.

    Hurley vs. Memphis Crowd?

Your buddy is gone. The new coach is better. Move on. If that means rooting for KO's new team, if he ever gets a new team, so be it. P.S. You and Bilas can cry over a beer together when your buddy gets squadoosh from UConn.

    Hurley vs. Memphis Crowd?

UConn has done well with coaches that can be balloon knots at times. It isn't always right or productive but it seems to work, long term. I prefer that to nice guys that lose but have recognition events for super fans.

    Another update on Precious Achiuwa

See, I need to take these recruiting losses better. Nothing to see here, there or anywhere. The sport is pristine. The FBI is fake news. By the way, someone needs to talk to these kids about the FBI stuff. I bet they have no idea what fire they are playing with.

    Hurley vs. Memphis Crowd?

Yep. This is better than January 16, 2018 (Memphis 73, UConn 49)

    Jalen Out 4-6 Weeks

Exactly. He will be way out of shape and will only be able to play at full speed in very short bursts. To put him out there for 30+ minutes would be foolish. He would be risking injury and he would be taking a lot of plays off. What's the point? Give the guys that will be here next year...

    Calling by all Boneyard doctors

His conditioning was already suspect. If he sits for multiple weeks, it will only get worse. Depending on the estimated recovery time, he (and the team) might be better off just shutting it down. And before anyone talks about playing time, minutes played is not a good indicator of...

    OT: France or Italy

I vote for Italy. Just got back from a 2 week stay. It was the first time there for the wife and kids. Tuscany is great. Florence, Siena, wineries and so on. You can drive to Rome or take the high speed train. You can go north to Maranello and visit Ferrari. I also suggest a day trip...

    Qudus Wahab

Yeah, you are right, that was a seriously hot take. It is sitting there, all alone, with no other similar takes even remotely close. Here is an idea, why don't you take a long look in the mirror and ask yourself why you are such a ? Then, maybe, you can work on all the people obsessions...

So people can't criticize the kid for signing up to compete with three (or is it four) other guys at his position? Excuse us Mr. Superfan. BTW, great players don't often make great coaches and great coaches rarely make great GMs. The opposite is also true.

I get why post players would want to play for Ewing but at what cost? Is there a limit to how many post players can already be on the team before a recruit says, "would love to play for Ewing but they have too many post players already." The kid can do what he wants but, to me, it isn't a wise...

    Alterique update

Yeah, the longer this goes the more likely it is that the news is not good. There aren't a lot of good reasons for an announcement to be delayed. But, no amount of churn on a message board is not going to change the outcome so we might as well just wait for news.

    Death of Three Sport Athlete

There is another way to go all in and miss. Even if a kid is not a D1 scholarship level athlete, they can still use sports to get recruited to an Ivy or an academically strong D3 school (Chicago, Williams, Amherst, etc.). Actually, the decision for these kids is more complicated. If you have...

    Death of Three Sport Athlete

The admissions officers were not totally honest with you. Trust me, a lack of community service did not kill your son's chances. He probably was an unhooked applicant. That means he needed some exceptional accomplishment in his application to have a chance. They don't care about what these...

    Death of Three Sport Athlete

It really is a nightmare and it is getting worse by the year. Kids can't be kids and still compete at a high level. It doesn't matter if it is sports, academics, the arts or whatever. There are crazy parents in the stands, crazy parents at concerts and recitals and crazy parents at parent...

You are correct. I was just throwing this out there in case it could help any parents in the same boat. Admissions at top schools is insane and upside down these days and only getting worse.

    Death of Three Sport Athlete

Sure but they don't just need to take classes in their major. You have situations where kids are taking required classes that they will probably never use in their prospective careers. My son is Psych and Pre-med. He loves his psych classes. He hated general chemistry but that is required...

    Death of Three Sport Athlete

I get what you are saying but what does it mean "to truly enjoy learning"? Every meaningful goal, academically, includes having to take classes you don't enjoy. Getting into top colleges requires a high GPA and doing all the right extracurriculars. That means sacrifice and stress. And that...

    Death of Three Sport Athlete

I agree. Where my self doubt creeps in is when I consider the opportunity cost. If a kid loves sports and is at least a decent athlete, well, that has value. And, of course, learning about team work and being physically fit have value. The question I ask myself now is, what was sacrificed...

    Death of Three Sport Athlete

I would like to add a few comments to this discussion based on my own experience with my youngest son. I will start out by saying something that I KNOW will get a really negative response. If your kid is an exceptional student, but not an exceptional athlete, consider guiding them away from...

Uh, no. This team is 28 spots higher in the Sagarin rankings than it was at the same time last year. It will finish stronger than last year's team too. At this modest rate of improvement we will be a borderline NCAA tournament team next year and a borderline top 25 team the year after...

    Is UConn dying?

Just got back from Italy last week. I discussed college costs and differences in the university systems with my cousins. I have to admit, I think we should look at the costs of college sports across the board in this country. If, as a whole, college sports is a money loser, all schools should...

It isn't our "fan"base that sucks. It is the Ollie fans that want to see Hurley fail.

Yeah, they would. This isn't the same as saying no one would care about the violations if we were winning.
