Gabby Gets Homecoming Game In Nevada Next Year

Thanks for the advice. I'm too excited to post much more now. Watching UConn play live was a bucket list item for me that I never thought I'd check off. Whoo who!

Gabby Gets Homecoming Game In Nevada Next Year

This is fantastic for a UConn fan like me! I thought I would never get to see them play live. Reno is about an 8 hour drive one-way from where I live, but that's no biggie.

My Google calendar came up with 12 noon Monday!

Maybe the special DirecTV channels 788-791 will carry the game in its entirety.

No UCONN/TULSA game on TV Saturday Only ESPN3?

I thought I saw on the UConnHuskies.com website for that game on Saturday that there was a button to click "watch live" or am I hallucinating?

Teams' Steals, 2001-2016; Have Things Stabilized?

I like statistics and math. One of my favorite subjects in college was stochastics (used in many different fields, particularly where stochastic or random processes are used to represent systems or phenomena that seem to change in a random way, such as image processing, computer science...

NCAAWB team free throw percentages -- rising tide lifting all boats?

You are a statistical maven. I grok means and standard deviations. But to analyze the statistical data takes a special ability. Keep going.

What does this forum tell us about UCWBB fans?

OK. Of, the three smartest women I have ever met, one is an attorney (Smith and USC grad). Works for me.

What does this forum tell us about UCWBB fans?

To echo another poster: what is your profession? I only know one other (besides you) who can write better than I (a couple of books and a 60 issue newsletter to start and I'm not a professional writer, but I was married to a NASA Apollo technical editor, so I have an backstop). I sent my...

Semi-OT: Improved performance, sports and other fields: are there limits?

Well this thread took a turn, thanks to my post, I guess. I don't want to get into an intellect discussion because I know too many smart people including (apparently) posters on this board. Also, I'm not sure I trust statistics about intellect. I was only trying to point out that there is an...

Semi-OT: Improved performance, sports and other fields: are there limits?

I realize that this board (thank goodness) does not allow political discussion, but be that as it may, thanks for the intellectual diversion. I personally needed it.

Semi-OT: Improved performance, sports and other fields: are there limits?

I love this thread! Keep 'em coming Connie. On a different, but analogous, note take intellect and technological advances. My understanding is that humans, on average, are no more intelligent today than they were hundreds if not thousands of years ago. However, technology has advanced in...

ESPNW: Young female athletes choosing volleyball over basketball

Volleyball is a high skill eye-hand coordination sport. In addition, jumping ability is a big plus. But, one doesn't have to run up and down the court all the time in VB. To me, that's the difference. I'm a big fan of both sports though.

    Team conditoning!

I recall a Geno show recently where he said something like: "You're all good players, but great players don't get tired." I think this team all wants to be great players.

    Thought experiment

I must compliment you on your writing style. If you're not a professional writer, you should be. Besides WCBB & WCVB that I noted earlier, I personally admire individual achievement by men or women, such as your writing style. I attended some high achieving schools and organizations in...

    Thought experiment

OP thanks for your first post. Well thought out and I like the alien species argument. For my part, I only watch 2 teams in 2 sports anymore: UConn WCBB and Nebraska WCVB. There is elegance and performance at the highest level in each. As for men's sports (of which I used to be a big fan...

    A cat named "#91"

At the end of the SMU game, Geno was walking off the court and one of the fans had a home made sign that said: "I named our cat #91" And the fan apparently asked Geno to autograph it. Then Geno was walking away shaking his head asking himself, "Who names a cat #91? A dog maybe, but a cat???"...

What it takes to Win and keep on Winning

Great post Tony! I couldn't agree with you more based on my experience. UConn's continued excellence is one of the main reasons I watch faithfully on TV.

    I lost for Words

While I was watching this game live, I said to myself: "This is insanely good!" That pretty much sums it up IMO. I love this team!

    Completely OT (dump cat stuff)

As the owner of six cats (all rescues), I can relate. LOL! BTW, my 3 new rescues came from next door during last hot June where they were starving and thirsty. The woman who owned them had her hands full with "stuff" and said, "Will you take them?" Yup. Now they are fat, sassy and very...

This year's team tougher than last year's team?

This comment is salient. I luv this team. During the 1st "Husky All Access" show, Geno just berates them. It has worked. This team is a TEAM. No real Superstar, just a bunch of stars who refuse to lose. They are mentally and physically tough. This whole season will be fun!

    Thoughts On All Access

Sorry I'm late to this thread. I loved this show. Geno is tough, but fair. If you are the best in D1 WCBB and go to UConn then this is what you should expect. It seems to me that the young women on this team (LouConn, NC, Gabulous, Kia, Chong, Big Nat, etc.) have embraced it. It reminds me of...

Well This is Timely - Natalie Article

Good article about Big Nat. I'm a big fan of hers, but if she could just jump half as high as Gabulous and had a nose for the ball like NC, she'd be insanely good. One can only wish.

    Narratives

Interesting post. I've always been a fan of Butler, but I agree with your analysis on her. For Chong, the jury is still out for me. Dangerfield is young and a frosh of course, so there is only upside for her. Too bad she's so short. LOL!

Geno Auriemma: Champions Are Not Born, They Are Made ...Here

One of the many reasons that I am a BIG fan of UConn WCBB basketball is because it reminds me of the USA military academies (USAF, West Point & Anapolis), of which I am an alumnus (USAFA '67) and my step-son is also (USMA '97). There we had many a saying, but here's one: "There are no problems...

What was most impressive to you of tonights performances:

That's what I got from the post game presser. Gabby's nickname of "Gabulous" is not for nothing. Kyla impressed also. This season could be a fun ride.
