Thanks Waquoit.
Nice Thread!
Started following sports in the late 60s as an 8 - 9 year old.
Baseball: Hank Aaron (Still a Braves fan)
Football: Roman Gabriel & Jack Snow (Still a Rams fan)
Basketball: Kareem Abdul-Jabbar & Oscar Robertson (Huge Bucks Fan)
Hockey: Bobby Hull, Stan Mikita, and Tony Esposito...
Pomona? I assume your younger son is interested in Pomona College which, along with Claremont McKenna, Harvey Mudd, etc, is one of the Claremont Colleges. That's located in Claremont (just a few miles from Pomona), which has a nice little section called Claremont Village with some nice...
Oh yeah, The Body was another one that worked out at the same gym once in a while. Hogan was always joking around while Putski was very serious, and didn't say much. The Somoans came in on occasion. I met the Barbarian twins when I went to URI for a couple years. They were nuts.
Oliver H Lowry (Scientist)
Sid Altman (Nobel Prize winner)
Stanley Johnson (Pistons)
Hulk Hogan
Jimmy Superfly Snuka
Ivan Putski
and a bunch of other old-time wrestlers (at Mike Katz's original World Gym East)
Growing up in the late 60's, early 70's my sports heroes were:
Kareem Abdul Jabbar (Bucks)
Bobby Hull (Blackhawks)
Henry Aaron (Braves)
Roman Gabriel, Deacon Jones, and Jack Snow (Rams)
I hated all local pro teams (i.e., Boston and NY) teams and still cheer for the same 4 professional teams.
FYI: St John Bosco (his old school) isn't in Pasadena. It's in Bellflower (~30 miles from Pasadena). So, maybe it's even closer to you than Pasadena. The only Trinity league school that isn't in the OC.
However, his high school for his freshman year was LaSalle, which is in Pasadena. He...

rebounding-just ok
defense-eh, we'll just outscore other teams.
As mentioned: Drummond for $2 is a steal
Sorry to hear of your loss. My condolences to you and all of his family and friends. That is a great heart-warming story about the roof rake. Reminds me of my Dad.
That is very true for a large proportion of kids from SoCal in particular. They learn early that regardless of how much work they put in, there is always a top level team willing to take them (too many teams and coaches trying to make a name for themselves). So, they jump from one AAU/club...
Marcus is a very interesting player and I'm pleased we are recruiting him. A little personal back story:
My son played for a short time on the same team as Marcus back in the 7th grade (Quickshot) and was also trained by Marcus' father (Marcus Sr.) in Pasadena, CA (where his Dad lives). So, I...
Yeah, it is a bit confusing. There are two Mater Dei's in So Cal.
St John Bosco (DHam) played & beat Mater Dei Catholic from Chula Vista (San Diego County) in the Division 2 state playoffs (a game SJB should win 10/10 times) on Tuesday night.
The "real" Mater Dei (Stanley Johnson, Rex...
There are a few here in the CIF-Southern Section. We had a female ref for about 4 games this season (total of 27 games). A couple were pretty good refs (the highest possible compliment for a ref...lol), some weren't, just like the male refs.
After seeing SJB play a couple of times early this season, I came away with a couple of thoughts:
1) Hamilton is the best player on the team
2) Dorsey seemed to have hit a plateau (he wasn't hitting any threes when I watched at the Pacific Shores Tournament). I would argue he is a volume...
