Big Ten Source: League targeting OU, Texas for 2024-25

Time has healed a lot of those old wounds, IMHO. There is still support for UConn within the ACC. UVA, and, the NC schools, specifically. It is generally thought that FSU, Miami, GT, and, Clemson are against you. Not sure about the others.

What if....Benedict to Hurley: “We’ll be in ACC by the final year of your contract”

At the time of the expansion that brought UL to the ACC, their FB program was having a good couple of seasons with Charlie Strong, while UConn was struggling. I really do believe it was that simple. Had the roles been reversed, UL wouldn't have gotten in, IMHO. The ACC's refusal to add WVU...

What if....Benedict to Hurley: “We’ll be in ACC by the final year of your contract”

Respectfully disagree. UConn's academic rep is not affected by associating with the likes of ECU, or, UCF. Nebraska's ranking does not affect anybody else's in the B1G, either.

What if....Benedict to Hurley: “We’ll be in ACC by the final year of your contract”

Sorry to not respond for so long. I had a family member who was very ill, and, he just passed away three weeks ago. So, it's been awhile since anything remotely approaching mormalcy has been seen in these parts. All of that said... I DO believe that some in the ACC are having buyer's remorse...

Cracks are forming in the Pac-12: Will they be patched before it's too late?

You have that exactly right. We never cease to remind them. UConn's potential is unlimited. Your basketball speaks for itself, as do your Olympic sports. Football and baseball would grow here. I'm stubborn. I still believe you will end up here.

ACC Network looking more like a sinking ship than the rising tide

There were whispers of a ND-type deal for Texas in the past, but, I never placed much stock in them. As for Wake Forest, none of the original ACC members are ever going to vote to get rid of them. Almost any scenario you all can envision that would bring UConn into the league, I'm ok with...

What if....Benedict to Hurley: “We’ll be in ACC by the final year of your contract”

I like this scenario. I still hold out hope that UConn will be in the ACC. You're a perfect fit. Yeah, yeah, I know. Silly, optimistic Tar Heel fan. Guilty as charged. :)

UConn in the ACC - Virginia Tech forum

Is Carolina the only school in the rankings to have an academic scandal stain their image?

UConn in the ACC - Virginia Tech forum

I've never made excuses for what Carolina has done. Nor, will I. If the NCAA decide to drop the hammer on us, so be it. For what went on there for so long, we deserve it. That said, the NCAA is not what scares me. SACS...The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools...scare me more...

UConn in the ACC - Virginia Tech forum

The point being, the B10 made it known to all listening, that AAU membership was a MUST for any new addition to the league. They knew Nebraska were losing their AAU status during the invite process. Yet, they invited them anyway. Just my limited view, but, when the B10 accepted NU without it...

UConn in the ACC - Virginia Tech forum

LOL...this narrative hanging on from the addition of Louisville is laughable. But, the B10 adding non-AAU Nebraska showed a real commitment to academics, didn't it?

Narrative that UConn Football is Hindrance to P5 Invite is Dead Wrong

You hit the nail on the head. Plus, the fact that nobody in the ACC, even the original ACC, saw them as their biggest rival. There are those of us within ACC fanbases, particularly Carolina and Duke, who'd see UConn as nothing but an upside for the league. How Swofford was unable to sell...

UCONN v. East Carolina Game Thread

It is a GREAT atmosphere at Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium. The Pirates have the best fanbase in the state. App State is a close second.

Hokies were 'strongest candidate' for SEC expansion in 2012

According to some media here, bothe ECU and NCSU want to grow their student bodies even more. State wants to be at 50,000 students within five years, and, ECU wants 30,000. ECU is almost there, as they sit at 27,000 now. State is at roughly 38,000, if the most recent enrollment reports are...

Hokies were 'strongest candidate' for SEC expansion in 2012

I always felt that they should've been in the BE as far back as maybe 2000. They would've been competitive in FB, and, Miami aside, had the best baseball program in the league.

Hokies were 'strongest candidate' for SEC expansion in 2012

There are a good number of ECU fans who pull for ECU in football, and, UNC in basketball. Typically, they are not alumni, and, they tend to be older fans. Younger fans are less likely to have those divided loyalties. Their alumni as a whole are a pretty loyal group. That does not even bring...

Hokies were 'strongest candidate' for SEC expansion in 2012

All of them. They show up, and, they're LOUD. At home in Greenville, Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium holds 47,000 but it sounds like 90,000 when UNC or NCSU are visiting. In Chapel Hill, as I said before, too many of our own fans give their tickets to their fans. Which means a lot more purple in Kenan...

Hokies were 'strongest candidate' for SEC expansion in 2012

Statewide, they ARE a far and distant third, without question. Its not that I am not giving them any credit. They have a small, but passionate, fanbase. They did show up in their numbers for their game vs VPI at BoA Stadium, and, they fill their stadium up for home games. Unfortunately...

Hokies were 'strongest candidate' for SEC expansion in 2012

I live in eastern NC, and, believe me, ECU is a FAR and DISTANT third here. They are so far behind Carolina and State, that they're not even in their rearview mirrors. ECU have a nice little five county barony in and around Greenville, but, thats about the extent of their following. But, even...

Hokies were 'strongest candidate' for SEC expansion in 2012

I am so glad that you said that. Because it is the absolute truth. But, to hear their delusional fans talk, you'd think that the SEC was salivating at the opportunity to bring them in. Which makes Carolina fans laugh. :D No other league WANTS NC State.
  23. SouthronCross

Hokies were 'strongest candidate' for SEC expansion in 2012

You are correct, in that the SEC would take NCSU, simply to get into the NC market, should Carolina ever decide to join the B1G.

Don't forget the regular callers, like that backwoods intellectual, Phyllis from Mulga. I listened to his show a couple of times, and, I can see why other Americans make fun of Southerners. SMDH... Good God, his audience are 'Delieverance' type hillbillies, for the most part. Pitiful.

    Why the ACC took Louisville

And, if you believe that BC's barking is what kept UConn out of the ACC, theres nothing I can say to sway you. Had the FSU-CU led group voted FOR UConn, BC would've been told to sit down and shut up. It really is that simple.

    Why the ACC took Louisville

The Pac have no threats. Good gracious, Utah is only in the Pac because the proposed Pac-Big 12 South merger fell through. They were the Pac's Louisville, if you want to go that route.
  27. SouthronCross

    Why the ACC took Louisville

I am not insinuating it. I am flatly saying it. While you'd think that Tech would prefer UConn's high academic standards, they threw in with the others in order to keep the ACC as a more Southern league. VPI wanted Louisville because of their more recent success on the gridiron, and, of their...

    Why the ACC took Louisville

BC has ZERO stroke in the ACC. That cannot be reinforced enough. Had the FSU-CU-GT-VPI-Miami voting bloc wanted UConn, you all would be in the ACC today. BC's position be damned. They are irrelevant, on and off the field. Regardless of what a Boston paper says.

    Why the ACC took Louisville

    A pretty fair assessment.
  30. SouthronCross

    Why the ACC took Louisville

BC does not have now, nor has ever had, that kind of stroke within the ACC. And, never will have. It was FSU-GT-CU-VPI-Miami who objected. BC might've thrown in with them, but, to say that UConn is not in the ACC because of BC is very incorrect.

    Why the ACC took Louisville

Nicky, I don't ever remember either RU, or, the ACC, ever stating even a passing interest in each other. I could be wrong about that. Its just that I never heard anything from one about the other.

    Why the ACC took Louisville

As long as UNC, FSU, CU, and, UVA all decide to stay, the ACC will be fine going forward. Any of them leave, and, all bets are off.

    Why the ACC took Louisville

Well, I'm a glass half full type person. And, I think he's done what some know-it-alls in and out of the media didn't think he'd do 2-3 years ago...keep the ACC together, and, keep it relevant. Thats a pretty major accomplishment. Is he the best conference commissioner in the NCAA? No. Is...
