Effect of the Big Ten moving East.

Eh, I attended both games and the crowd was fine. The combined attendance for Basketball and Hockey was about 27k which is a pretty healthy number all things considered.

    Big Ten football

So how much do you think the UConn AD made last year by throwing all those games?

If Texas really wants in, they'll have influence on who #18 is and my bet would be a second Texas school.

I don't see how any realignment scenario involving Big 12 implosion is helpful to UConn unless they're looking forward to a AAC+Big 12 remnants merger. I think all scenarios that result in UConn being joining a P5 conference involves the Big Ten shaking off a Virginia school or two.

I have a hard time believing the Big Ten would make 2 basketball adds for 15&16. If Kansas or UConn is in I think the other school be will a football school.

    Trouble Ahead for Non-Power 5

Upstater, those numbers you refer to the are captured in the "expenses" column if you look at the AD annual report. The subsidies here are generally meant to capture general fund contributions to help pay for AD expenses that isn't covered by revenue but you notice multiple schools that...

Ideally subsidies would be removed from the revenue numbers at the very least but that's not done here.

    Trouble Ahead for Non-Power 5

Some schools have legal clauses that require a certain amount of expenses to be paid out of the general fund in order to qualify as a school run entity. That's why Michigan always reports a small subsidy because the upkeep of one of the athletic athletic buildings is paid by the school and then...

At some point in the future there will be bundling for streaming services for live TV. Similar to how Netflix has to negotiate for content access, I expect ESPN and Fox sports properties to eventually make it over to streaming services for a nominal monthly fee. I don't think it will shift...

    Question about B1G TV Negotiations

The error you're making is giving any credence to what either the Dude of Flug says. CSU doesn't make sense for an addition.

    Question about B1G TV Negotiations

You'll probably hear rumblings right around the end of the upcoming FB season (i.e. early 2016) - I personally don't expect any FB related realignment.

Key tweets, and it's all gone to Hell.

...that said, the one relative weakness that Big Ten has is the weakness (and frankly the lack of popularity) of college baseball in the Midwest and most of the Northeast. The other conferences have stronger late spring/summer programming because of that and I know the Big Ten has been...

B1G, Big East announce Gavitt Tipoff Games for 2015

The challenge has Fox's fingerprints allover it. Unlike the Big Ten/ACC challenge, it's entirely possible for none of the games to show up on ESPN (although I'm sure they'll pick up at least 1 game) I think it'll be an interesting datapoint to see how how the ratings for these games will be...

He's probably trying to allude to College Baseball. Spring/Summer programming is the weakest out of the Big Ten Lineup and baseball in the Big Ten in general is pretty poor compared to the other P5 conferences. If ASU Hockey talks are legit, it probably makes sense to pick up a few Baseball...

They really need to do away with Neutral site games for a conference hockey tourny. Just have it at the site of the higher seeded team.

There's no real requirement to keep the members balanced for Hockey. Even if the ASU thing is true they can just stop at 7 members. There's no need to add an 8th program just to even out the numbers.

Harbaugh will get at least 6 years (unless he leaves first) and I think he'll find success by year 3-4. Rich Rod didn't get fired for his on-the-field success as much as the culture clash between what he wanted to do vs. what the school wanted. Putting the FB program on NCAA probation for...

Kansas State might be a good one to pursue. They have openings and given Synder's age I wouldn't be surprised if he's only got another year or two left in him before retiring.

It'll probably closer to a 40% acceptance rate. Yield rates tend to be low for schools that support the common app and it looks like last year's yield was around 25%. That's still a great number though - much better most other public universities.

I'm sure B1G would be interested in BU but I don't really see the benefit to BU in this situation. Johns Hopkins was unique in its circumstance in that it was a Lacrosse independent and had close ties with Maryland going in. There's very little shared history between BU and any Big Ten schools

Madison Square Garden to host B1G Tournament in 2018

I don't think Baseball is a sport that will get this treatment in the Big Ten ranks - there's only 3 sports that are considered revenue sports : Football, Men's Basketball, and Men's Ice Hockey. Maybe a few decades from now Lacrosse will be on that list. Baseball...I just don't see it in the...

What will ND do in response to TCU/Baylor Situation

The contention is intentional - the biggest fear of everyone involved is devaluing the regular season (and associated ratings). They need a system that keeps everyone guessing until the last week of the regular season since that pumps up the TV ratings - 4 spots for 5 conferences delivers this.

What will ND do in response to TCU/Baylor Situation

My position is that in years where ND is a contender it will be fighting over the ACC spot given the likely overlap in common opponents between the two teams (ACC Champ vs ND) in a one loss situation. If they are undefeated they should be in UNLESS everyone else is also undefeated. For the...
