There's no real requirement to keep the members balanced for Hockey. Even if the ASU thing is true they can just stop at 7 members. There's no need to add an 8th program just to even out the numbers.

It'll probably closer to a 40% acceptance rate. Yield rates tend to be low for schools that support the common app and it looks like last year's yield was around 25%. That's still a great number though - much better most other public universities.

You read too much into the U of NY at Buffalo thing - its self-branding for sports only and not actually sanctioned by SUNY. That's why the scoreboards at games still reads Buffalo and not "New York"

The contention is intentional - the biggest fear of everyone involved is devaluing the regular season (and associated ratings). They need a system that keeps everyone guessing until the last week of the regular season since that pumps up the TV ratings - 4 spots for 5 conferences delivers this.
