So with 2 sellouts and a capacity just north of 10,000 Storrs would be on the high side of that average. Unless they count the play-in game which apparently had very low attendance.
Nika is also in 3rd place for most assists in a season (230 and counting in 2023-24). Sue Bird is in 2nd place (231 in 2001-02). As noted above, Nika already holds 1st place with 284 in 2022-23. Amazing that she's only 2 assists away from having the top 2 spots on that very impressive list of...
If the one player who is suddenly healthy could also magically have this full season of experience, no doubt I'd pick Jana to address our lack of height and post depth issues. But if the magic only works for making a player healthy now and going forward, I'd pick Aubrey because she could slide...
At this point I would imagine she's waiting for the signing period April 17-May 15, when the tournament hoopla will have died down, and the portal will be closed (on May 1, I think). That way her announcement won't have to compete for attention with anything else.
In that case, I wonder if Aubrey's return has any impact on her decision. It really shouldn't, I'm no expert but I wouldn't expect Aubrey back before late December/January, and even then with some serious minutes limitations.
Are you aware that all caps online is the equivalent of screaming?
A strong conference schedule (such as the soon to be defunct Pac-10) is a much easier sell to recruits than a strong out of conference schedule. And the former does not preclude the latter.
One of the advantages that UConn has traditionally had in recruiting is that great players want to play for the best, with the best, and against the best. So playing for Geno and CD is a major plus, especially with the reputation that they have for preparing WNBA- ready players. But who knows...
Last year she broke her nose pre-season, and we don't know how many days she may have been held back from practice while any swelling went down and the mask was made. For that matter, there may be some swelling now that prevents her from wearing the mask without undue discomfort.
I'm guessing...
1) Energy on defense without fouling
2) We make our shots, no missed bunnies or bricks especially off passes from Nika
3) Significant contributions from the bench throughout the game
Actually I'd prefer it the other way around, 15 assists and 10 points. Those 15 assists would translate to at least 30 points and would get Nika closer to the career assists record (which I really want for her.)
Maybe I should have specified single digit turnovers for the whole game, I thought we were going to surpass that in the first quarter. (It worked out okay though, I think we had 6 in the first quarter but then only 4 the rest of the game.)
You're not the only one who was impressed with Jana's tournament play. Right now it seems like there's just a few of us on the Jana bandwagon, but I have a feeling that's gonna change next fall.
