OT Best Female Athlete You Ever Saw?

Okay, talking seen in person. Before her positive drug test, I would have said Marion Jones. She was PG on the '94 UNC team that beat UConn in the Elite 8 on the way to the title AND she was a multiple Olympic gold medal sprinter and won medals in long jump, too. Now, if we're talking...

OT: Worst movie of all time

Wow. A lot of you have no idea what an actual bad movie is as opposed to not liking a movie or being disappointed by a movie. For example, Manos: The Hands of Fate is a terrible movie.

Here's a link to the news on the Baylor site I hope Coach Mulkey is okay. She contracted it from a family member at Christmas.

my vote for Maya as best player in UConn history (so far)

I'm not entirely sure what you're saying here. Are you saying that DT made her teammates better just her junior and senior years? Are you really saying that Stewie didn't make her teammates better? Are you also saying that Stewie didn't allow Mo to be more aggressive because she was a good...

my vote for Maya as best player in UConn history (so far)

And you're talking about DT or Stewie here? Because it's true in both cases. DT joined a team that had won the NC the year before. Stewie joined a team that hadn't won the NC the year before. DT didn't help her team win the title in '01. She carried her team to a 29-point swing in the wrong...

my vote for Maya as best player in UConn history (so far)

And made her teammates on the '01 team ... worse? Stewie elevated herself and her team her freshman year, which is something DT didn't do. That team absolutely needed her to carry them and she did it.

my vote for Maya as best player in UConn history (so far)

Are we talking peak or career? For peak, it's Tina. For career, it's Rebecca.

What sport or other endeavor requires the greatest all-around athletes?

Okay, great. I'm just wondering about what point you're trying to make, especially since no one was talking about either one.

What sport or other endeavor requires the greatest all-around athletes?

Are you trying to say playing table tennis requires more athleticism than being a decathlete?

The Same River Twice by John Walters. If you haven't read it and you're interested in the 2000-01 team even in the slightest, I'd recommend it.

Pole vault takes more hand-eye coordination than catching a ball :)

What sport or other endeavor requires the greatest all-around athletes?

Why was decathlon discarded so quickly? Finding the best athlete is literally the point. Beyond that, an Ironman triathlete. Swimming, biking, and running. No rest.

Megan Rapino Talks Sue Bird and WNBA on Players Tribune

If you're a UConn fan, not liking Sue Bird is like, I don't know, not liking oxygen or water or fun. I can't even imagine how it's possible. "Yeah, Sue is too ... " what? How does that sentence end in a way that makes sense? Full of life? Funny? Good? Ageless? Hard-working?

Megan Rapino Talks Sue Bird and WNBA on Players Tribune

One point Rapinoe makes in writing about how the US Women's National Team won the World Cup and how it was a big deal is important: Why did *everyone* watch their games and almost no one watches the WNBA?

Who is the Uconn GOAT? It's all in the numbers...maybe.

I don't know. Do you think D would've stepped up the way Stewie did her freshman year? If you do think that, what makes it different from how D performed her freshman year in the Final Four?
  24. Wally East

Who is the Uconn GOAT? It's all in the numbers...maybe.

Yup, this. Maya was a very good defender but Stewie, obviously, was amazing. (Diana ... also played defense.) And defense is 50% of the game. And not just blocking shots but defending in the paint in general as well as on the perimeter.
  25. Wally East

Who is the Uconn GOAT? It's all in the numbers...maybe.

The difference between shooting 50% and 37.5% from the field is pretty big, don't you think? Might want to check that again :) (If you think about it for a moment, there's no way the three players who went to four Final Fours could've played in fewer games than the two players who went to...

Who is the Uconn GOAT? It's all in the numbers...maybe.

RBIs are a terrible stat since it's totally dependent on who gets on base ahead of you.
  27. Wally East

Who is the Uconn GOAT? It's all in the numbers...maybe.

Stewie is the greatest, then Maya and D. The problem with the approach taken by the OP is that by simply awarding rank points, it doesn't account for when the differences are very great or very small. One way to account for this and then total things across categories is to divide each...

COVID-19 cases at colleges are fueling the nation's hottest outbreaks

I just want to, very gently, remind you that this is a communicable disease. Someone with the disease represents a potential threat to everyone with whom they come into contact. So, while not a lot of college students might die as a result of contracting the virus, they could spread the virus to...

We picked the all-time starting 5 for UConn women's basketball

Lisa Leslie, Cheryl Miller, Sheryl Swoopes, Katie Smith, and Lindsay Whalen. Bench: Chamique Holdsclaw, Candace Parker, Teresa Edwards, Cynthia Cooper, Sabrina Ionescu, EDD, and Sylvia Fowles. Not 100% that I'd start Whalen over Edwards or Ionescu. Also, maybe Dawn Staley instead of Cynthia...

    Kara Wolters

I respect Kara Wolters's contribution as much as anyone but, no, she did not carry the 1995 team. That team was possibly the most talented team in UConn history with Rebecca Lobo, Jennifer Rizzotti, and Nykesha Sales.

    Players or the system?

This is certainly true :) But, often (but not always), when UConn won its titles, it was the best team by quite a bit, which was not the case when they were sophs through seniors.
  33. Wally East

    Players or the system?

The system can bring you to a certain point but, now, at this point, it's the players you put into the system. The last bunch of titles was won with Stewie, Maya, and D. Without those players, UConn was very, very good but not title-winning good. KLS and Phee were both incredible but not on...
