    Round 2

Not to mention attendance. Many of the first round games where the host wasn’t playing were empty. A neutral site with 4 less popular schools would be less than ideal, and likely unavoidable in some situations. A big crowd plays a huge part in creating that March madness atmosphere.

UConn vs. Syracuse post game - on to the sweet 16!

I like to look at the net rebounds in a game. Not sure if it’s a tracked stat, but this is what I do. Syracuse missed fga (45) less Uconn defensive rebounds (28) less Uconn offensive rebounds (9) = 8 Uconn missed Fga (28) less Cuse defensive rebounds (19) less Cuse offensive rebounds (17) =...

    Round 2

Could mean a couple of things. The committee did a good job of seeding teams. Or that hosting the first 2 rounds is not just an advantage but a big advantage. 13 of the 16 host teams advanced. VT lost a close game, an outcome greatly impacted by the Kitley injury. Duke and Colorado were two...

    Round 2

I remember watching Iowa State her freshman year. She, Donarski (now at UNC), and Fuerbach (now at Iowa) all played huge roles as freshman. They were led by their veteran Ashley Joens. Really cool to now see Emily Ryan in that veteran role, on a team so reliant on freshman. I’m really intrigued...

    The Bracket

The P5 really did dominate the first round. Middle Tennessee was a mid major upset. Gonzaga a mid major chalk win. And then Creighton and Uconn from the big east. Big 12- 7 ACC - 6 PAC 12- 6 SEC- 5 Big 10- 4 Big East - 2 West Coast Conference -1 Conference USA - 1 The big 12 going a...

    AP Awards

Interesting you only need one vote to be honorable mention. Congrats to Paige, first team AP All American returning from ACL injury. That’s really impressive. Aaliyah one of the two highest vote getters in the honorable mention category, per the AP article.

UConn not in Albany? Portland bracket here (merged)

I was hoping to avoid 3 teams. South Carolina, LSU, and UCLA. Their size intimidates me. I’m happy our regional is free of those opponents. Syracuse is no joke, they beat ND twice and have the potential to play really well. Ohio State is also scary with their press, but we have more ball...

In Today’s Game, Should there Be Automatic Qualifiers?

I see both sides. The auto qualifiers make the conference tournaments carry more weight, especially for smaller conferences or teams that go on a Cinderella run. But I can see the intrigue of the NCAA tournament being the 64 best teams in the nation. First round matchups would be less...

    ESPN AA Team

Thank you for this. I was going off memory, and recall Clark not being on the AP first team. In the comparison with Bueckers, I just remember efficiency and turnovers being topics of conversation. It’s illuminating to see how high Clark’s EFG was. Maybe her snub was more related to team...

    ESPN AA Team

When it comes to JuJu, she completely passes the eye test for me. Her size, athleticism and skill set is pretty unique to the women’s game. She’s also made USC relevant again. However over the last 10 games of the season, she has shot 80/226 35% and 16/58 from 3 28%. To me, she’s run out of...

    Shout out to Ice

She played 17 min and had a +/- of -1. I only mentioned it because I noticed that when she entered the game, it coincided with Georgetown going on a 10-0 run. But that made me realize, wow Ice is playing really well! Because there wasn’t any dip in play by having her in the starting lineup...

    Shout out to Ice

She was awesome this tournament. One thing I’ve noticed since Aubrey’s injury is the second we go to the bench our play drops off. It’s really encouraging that with Ice in the lineup, the quality of play was still really high. She fit in pretty seamlessly and stepped up in a huge way. It will...

    South Carolina is beatable

Tamari Key has come a long way this season. Her size and strength are a good matchup for Cardoso, as Cardoso isn’t someone who is consistently beating you down the floor in transition. To play with South Carolina you need that size to neutralize the interior a bit and secure defensive rebounds...

UConn stats.... Nika assist record countdown...

While true, had Paige and Azzi been completely healthy last year, Nika wouldn’t have gotten nearly as much court time. Paige, Azzi, Lou, Aaliyah, and Dorka would’ve been the lineup most likely. Nika has seized opportunity and deserves to be applauded for stepping up big time.

    UConn-Villanova postgame

The goal though would be to become a greater matchup problem for the opponent. If Ice was good enough offensively to counteract the defensive shortcomings of a quicker team, she would’ve played. That’ll come with time hopefully.

Week 17 - Feb 26 to Mar 4 (games, conf standings, NET)

It’s interesting how certain wins have so much impact on perception throughout the year. The opening win over LSU gave Colorado a massive reputation boost. If you look as Massey ratings for the PAC 12, Stanford, UCLA, USC, Utah, and Oregon State are ranked in the top 16. Colorado has gone 3-6...

    UConn-Creighton postgame

Haven’t seen this mentioned at all but in big east play, Paige and Ashlynn are both shooting 50/40/90. Impressive stuff.

    UConn-Creighton postgame

It seemed like Paige set up teammates for open perimeter shots that they either passed up, or missed. The switch then flipped in the 2nd half and she hunted her own offense. I liked that adjustment by her. The third quarter really stood out as the teams best quarter. Good for team confidence to...

    Attendance Update across P5 WCBB

It should also be noted that although they won’t get credit for it, Iowa is filling the stadiums for road games. The draw to see Caitlin is reminiscent of all of the years where when Uconn played on the road, their opponent had their highest attendance game of the season when Uconn came to town...

Paige coming back!! Aubrey too!! (Merged)

Paige coming back makes so much sense for so many reasons. 1. She’s not using a COVID year, but just her redshirt year. In program history, I can only really think of Morgan Tuck electing to go pro instead of using her redshirt. She however won 4 championships so it made sense. 2. Paige had...

How Nika Mühl is putting together her best season 'by far'

    Just looking at some stats. Statistical categories compare the 13 non conference games vs 12 big east games. Pts - 5.8, 8.2 Rbs - 3.7, 4.4 Asst- 4.7, 7.7 TO - 2.9, 2.0 3PM- 1.0, 1.6 3% - 41.9, 43.1 FGM- 2.2, 3.3 FG%- 47.5, 49.3

    UConn - SC post game

This is the reality of our injured season. The post Griffin era especially has highlighted the drop of between player 5 and 6 on the roster. It’s no margin for error. Paige looked aggressive and battled. But was draped defensively and looks to be getting tired. Not rocket science that her...

    WNBA 2024 season

I may be misinformed, but I believe Washington placed a code designation on her, meaning she wasn’t an unrestricted free agent. Phoenix would have had to acquire her via trade. Had they not cored her, she likely could’ve signed for the vet minimum to join forces with a team like Phoenix. I do...

    UConn - Villanova Post Game

This one was truly a tale of two halves. Glad to see the response coming out of the locker room. Our seniors guards played nearly 40 minutes, a credit to Nova making it a true grind. A solid win, happy to be back in the win column.
  25. R

    Nika +13

It also illuminates the drop off between the level of the starters and the bench. It makes perfect sense that there would be a dip in effectiveness between Nika and either Ice/Q. With Aubrey, there was a 6th option with experience. Without her, the margin for error is gone. Any of Paige, Nika...

    A Lesson Learned

Agreed. What helped me last season was to evaluate the season as different teams based on who was injured. Very similar to how the committee evaluates teams bodies of work. This year, you have the team with Azzi and CD, then the stretch before Aubrey’s injury, then post Aubrey. Team A- 3-1...

UConn - Notre Dame post game

My completely honest opinions. PIt’s felt like the last couple of years we have struggled to win big games. It’s felt like the injuries pile up, we lose a big game. We seek confidence from conference games, but fall flat in the big ones. It’s something nobody wants to hear, but the big east...

Analysis and comments - Game 21 - UConn vs Notre Dame

Agreed. To me I’d suspect Geno applies defensive quickness in KK on Hidalgo, Nika on Citron since she has a bit more size, and Ashlynn on DeWolfe. Aaliyah should match up with the biggest player, and Paige gets whoever is left. See Paige splitting time between Westbeld, Bransford, and possibly...

    Caroline out for the season

Sad as she’s one of my favorite players. But happy she’s prioritizing her health. I look forward to seeing her return to the court next year, hopefully healthy and playing her best basketball.

None of UConn's 3 PGs make Nancy Lieberman Mid Season Top 10 List

Regarding Nika, she will get looked over by other PGs who score the ball more. Her assist numbers this year aren’t other worldly, so other players who can post similar assist numbers but also average 12+ ppg will get an edge. Also worth noting, against our non-conference schedule excluding...

UConn stats... KK & Ashlynn, alike or different?

KK reminds me a lot of Crystal Dangerfield. Incredibly strong, and incredibly quick. Great defenders, both with an ability to penetrate and drive the basket, both create assist opportunities off the bounce. When KK gets the same level of 3 point shot, she’ll probably be an even better player...

    UConn - St. John postgame

Was able to catch the game in person at UBS arena. The venue only sold tickets for one side of the lower bowl, and none behind the baskets. The one half was probably 90% full, the other 0%. Made for a really strange atmosphere as from a viewers perspective, the arena was completely empty.

    UConn - Providence post game

The biggest contribution from Ines and Amari will be their ability to provide 4th quarter minutes in wide margin of victory big east games. I expect to see them play most the 4th quarter to ensure our rotations minutes are capped.

    UConn - Providence post game

Crazy defensive energy in the first quarter, that one stretch where they pressed was so effective. Providence looked like us against Ohio State’s press last year! It’s interesting to see the four guard lineup, and to watch Paige play the 4. It seems like a lineup that will work very effectively...

Paige Bueckers was asked if all UConn's injuries will impact her decision about whether to return next season

It wasn’t long ago that players always used their full eligibility. The first time I recall a Uconn player pass on a redshirt year was Morgan Tuck. But her case was quite unique, the program won 4 championships during her time on campus! The fact that Paige would be using her redshirt year, as...
