UConn vs. Syracuse post game - on to the sweet 16!

Unless I misread the brackets and teams' results, UCONN and South Carolina are the only teams left that lost to NOBODY outside the Sweet 16 this season. Gotta be good to beat us.

    Allison Janney, obviously.

It is going to be a long offseason

I wouldn't say the "overpaid vets" part to Bonner's face. And anyway, like many Boneyarders, I suspect, I root for whatever WNBA team has the most UCONN alumnae. And against Arike. And all Mabreys.

About 10 days or so before game one of the tournament, so let's hope whatever time Aubrey needs she can get. Also, time enough for Caroline to ice her head!

Aalijah saw their Canadian flags on her way into the tunnel at the end of the game and high-fived them all!

Bus load of Canadian girls coming to see Aaliyah

I think I'm sitting with them! Just got a couple of their extra tix and Mrs. Vballcoach and I are getting in the car to head up to Storrs. First game since pre-pandemic!

Did the players make it back to Storrs?

So, Aaliyah, Dorka, Caroline, Lou, and Nika. I still like our chances. Bench order? Ayanna, Amari (if she gets there), Inez. Wow. This will be one tough team by the end of the season.

    MoJeff released by Dallas

Seattle certainly is missing Canada, and Moriah might fit in there. Minnesota doesn't look like they WANT a guard (cut Clarendon and Dangerfield), but they sure look like they NEED one. Now that she's gone from Dallas, I can root against Mabrey and Arike energetically and without any hesitation.

    WNBA draft results

January, Bird, and Prince have logged a lot of miles over the years. They might well need a younger guard, just for some insurance. Stewie/Magbegor, Russell/Cunane, Gabby/Talbot, Jewel/Prince, Bird/January. That leaves two spots. Maybe one big and one small. Herbert-Harrigan (who's not listed on...

This is a wonderful bunch of athletes, and I applaud them, even as they lost tonight. They were pretty valiant in their attempt to stay in the game. I'm sure we'll find that Azzi was far from healthy and that Evina could barely walk. Everything had to go right, and very little did, but this was...

Congratulations Stef and Azura! WNBA Champs!

Kia being unavailable was HUGE for the series. I thought maybe Vandersloot might have been MVP. She made it all happen.

    Lou redux

This is why I’m optimistic about Lou and her chances for success in Seattle. I think there’s great basketball in her, but she really didn’t get a chance in Chicago (coach didn’t trust her) or Dallas (chaotic Arike-centered offense).

Kia Nurse and Megan Walker to Phoenix Mercury

The Liberty become MUCH better right away with Howard, whom the Storm will have to replace with Ezi and DuPree, at least right away, and Lou instead of Sami, Not a bad trade off. The Liberty will miss Kia, but she'll be great behind those Phoenix guards. What Dallas can make of this year's first...

One has to assume that the fact that ONO and AG didn't get yanked after what felt like a thousand of those shots means that Geno was fine with those shots. Indeed, once Jones, Charles, and Dolson became threats from that spot (or, to be fair, a little closer in than that), they became HUGE...

It's one of the UCONN baskets with a name: Bird at the Buzzer, Gardler's Hair, Wrong Way Swin, Rizzotti Coast to Coast, Swanier for the Win, Strother Behind the Back, Pulido in the Final, Buck in the Final, Sales after the Injury, And then, of course, all of DT's: 3 point play vs. Oklahoma...

https://www.espn.com/wnba/story/_/id/30451125/texas-longhorns-charli-collier-projected-go-no-1-new-york-liberty It doesn't look like that exciting a draft, and with so many players (one imagines and hopes) returning to the league after a 2020 away (EDD, Tina, Chiney, Renee, Cambage, Plum...

    KLS as a pro

Just finished watching Phoenix-Dallas. Just about the best WNBA game of the season , and I withdraw everything I said and thought about Arike, who was magnificent. Nice to see Lou get big minutes and play so well. It's always tough to watch DT lose, though.

    KLS as a pro

So, Lou is 6th on the team in minutes this season, so she's getting time on the floor, even at key moments, like the end of close games. As for Arike, she's 8th on the team in three point percentage, despite taking almost twice as many as anyone else. That's not going to work. Yes, Arike will...

    In Your Opinion

Angie Paccione from my little high school in upstate New York in the late 1970's. I watched her score 62 one day to set what was then the state single game record, back before 3 pointers and shot clocks. Angie played at Stanford and some USA hoops as well. In my memory, she'd bring the ball up...

Hang in there, all. I've decided to watch all of the NCAA tournament games from seasons that ended in a championship. At one game a day, that's two months of happiness! Congrats to ND

I think we all knew, deep down, it was going to be Notre Dame, because that was the most painful to a Husky fan. That's one exciting weekend of hoops, though it was heartbreaking to watch tonight. I'd still rather be a fan of our team. How many days until they open?
