UConn-USC Postgame Thread (The Huskies back to the Final Four!!!)

I don't know who could check this, but I'll bet UConn has never missed seven foul shots in a row!

How many times did PB & AE fall to the floor yesterday?

Just watched that one on the highlight reel. Both UConn players very clearly fouled. The one on AE could even have been a flagrant. Ridiculous that there were no whistles there.

Sporting News ranks the top seven players of all-time

NO QUESTION, Maya belongs on the list, and near the top of it! Also, you can't quantify "style", but Maya had the most beautiful game. I'll never forget her finger-roll layups. Another issue with this list - why the top seven? Why not eight or ten or fifteen? Maybe the author only listed those...

    UConn - SJU post game

Lots of posters here bemoaning a "bad second half" etc. But it was actually just a three-and-a-half minute lull in which SJU scored 16 points (including banked three's) to our 3 points. I don't like "lulls" but to me, that was the only bad spell of the game. Without that run, we win by 28...

    OK Beats #2 Kansas

This loss was coming. In recent games, K-State squeaked by Texas by 3 points, Baylor by 3 points, and BYU by 2 points.

    #8 in new AP Poll

Well, K-State was headed for loss #2, but Baylor managed only 16 points in the entire second half.

    #8 in new AP Poll

So many tough games for so many teams. As of last Monday, there were seven teams with just one loss in the top 25 (and undefeated SC). Five of the seven suffered losses last week, and UCLA lost tonight. And Baylor is leading Kansas State at the start of the second half.

    Huskies abroad, part 2

Good comeback, too. Lyon was down 60-50, and went on a 20-4 tear!

    Kaili McLaren

I loved Kaili as a player. But I remember unhappily that because of her size, she always got called for fouls she didn't commit.

    Low Scoring Oddity

Duke easily defeated Boston College today, 2/9, by 68 to 27. BC scores by quarter were 9, 5, 8, and 5. I don't think I've ever seen a box score in which a team that did not reach 10 in any of the four quarters.

    Muhl joins elite group

It must never be forgotten that Diana's assist total would have been a lot higher except for the fact that her teammates were often not ready for her rapid-fire passes and no-look passes.

UCONN - Butler Postgame thread [merged]

Looking at the boxscore, Butler beat Uconn by a lot in one stat - thirteen Butler players saw action, versus seven for UConn! :)

Why didn't Geno have a bigger bench available?

USC can't field a team either. But not because of injuries. It's because they have decided that "field" is a bad word.

OT: C Viv and First Initials

I never understood the "C Viv" thing. I figure either use your first name or if you don't like it, drop it and go with just Viv. But okay boneyarders, can you name other people who have done this? I'll start the list: M Night Shyamalan

    Legal? Technical Foul?

Watch this video from 1:02, and watch the trailing defender as Christen goes in for her layup after her steal. Is this allowed? Allowed or not, it is pretty immature for a college level player.

Oregon outscored AZ 18-5 in Q4

Watch the final play in OT. Was the player's foot still out of bounds when she grabbed the rebound before making the game-winning shot?

It's Official: Shea Ralph Named Vanderbilt Coach

Shea isn't the first person to leave UConn for Vandy. Anyone remember Liz Sherwood? She went to Vandy in 2004 after her freshman year at UConn and had a fine run there. A big player, slow to cover the court, but a great passer and the softest hands on lay-ups and short jumpers.

I think Paige is great and will get better! I don't have ten seconds to waste on Stephen A.

Something needs to be done about the officiating in WBB

I would like to see some consistency between the games. It is fine to say that in each game, the players have to see how the refs are calling the game, but is it fair for the players to have to make huge adjustments from one game to the next? Case in point is the last two UConn games. Very...

Yeah, that could have been reviewed as a possible flagrant. No reason for that kind of violent swipe.

    Disappointed in Kim

Anybody remember Tennessee beating Baylor in the 2004 NCAAs? I do. Score tied, and refs called a tough foul on Baylor with 0.2 seconds left. TN wins with free throws. Mulkey's reaction? AP Article: Baylor coach Kim Mulkey-Robertson was definitely upset. She alternated between being somber and...

Reason for non-call on final play

In the much copied still shot of the three players, I see Aaliyah's right hand squarely on the ball. If there is a block and also contact, isn't that usually ruled as a block? Need help from people more familiar with the rules to respond.

    photos for Kim

Great pictures, and I know there are more examples as well. Fact is it is always worrisome for UConn when they have to play a more physical team AND they get referees who "let them play". Baylor got just what it needed - lenient refereeing the whole game and they took advantage of it. So for...

UConn vs Baylor Post Game Interviews

Exactly four years ago, with seconds left, Saniya Chong dribbled into the lane and no foul was called on the Miss State defender who contested Saniya's shot. Free throws would have won that Final Four game for UConn. I do not recall Geno or Saniya whining through any post-game interviews.

    Baylor Postgame Thread

You are correct. At the end of the 19-point run, UConn was up 9 with seven minutes to go. From that point, they fell apart! They scored only five more points! Paige missed two 3's, two jumpers and a lay-up, Aaliyah missed a lay-up, and Christyn made two of three lay-ups and one of four...

UConn vs Baylor Post Game Interviews

Couldn't agree more. This ref crew let stuff go on both sides the entire game, so to focus on the one play is wrong. If they had called it tight all game (and there would have been perhaps 20 more fouls called!), and then if they let the last play go, you would have a right to complain about...

    SMU postgame thread

The lane violation call on Anna in the first half on a foul shot with no SMU players contesting the rebound was so absurd it was funny. To find an equally stupid call, you have to go back many years to a call against Maya Moore for not getting both feet out of bounds when passing the ball in...

    Just thought of this

I have to agree with Paisan and Tenspro2002. Paisan, did you hear the announcers doing a pity party for Holly at the end of the TN game? Holding her up like a saint for her efforts and passion, without a word of criticism for her inability to do something with her talented teams. Tenspro, it...
