I am counter to most of the folks here. I love Gus. High energy, world class, builds the game up to an elite level. He brings passion. Johnson, although he is tight with Rip, comes off as arrogant and lacks any joy for the game.

Seriously? That team beat #2-Nova (Wright); 3-ISU (Hoiberg); 4-MSU (Izzo); overall #1-FL (Donovan) and UK (Calapari). The coaches, seeds and schools they beat were a friggin gauntlet. Nothing easy or lucky about that run in the least.

I run a UConn Twitter site & what I've found is that KU MBB & South Carolina WBB fans are the flat-out most disagreeable. And that's being overly diplomatic. I have online friends, whom I can rationally DM with regularly, from nearly every other rival/team we play. ARK, FL, Liberty, NCS, Iowa...

Just want it in my back pocket. I just hate the narrative that we were somehow equal parts lucky and "got hot at the right moment." KU fans tend to be the worst, and the least fact-based. But, lots of fanbases have similar fans. Our fans are not necessarily any better at times. :confused:

You can't compare Calhoun's early years (his first 5) to Self's first 5 years at KU. The programs were at entirely different places. Calhoun's program -- from 1990-2011 - was built from scratch. Self on the other hand had an established powerhouse from the get-go.

Not disputing your well-researched position in any way. But in the same 20 years he has coached Kansas, UConn has won 4 NCs - double that of KU. In essence, UConn could have been a 1 seed for all 4 of those Nattys and exceeded Seed expectation and KenPom expectation. But we were a 2, 3,7, and.4...
