Can't point to much on the box score for Diggins, but I came away impressed by his play. He didn't play hurried or out of control. Was calm, showed he has good handle and court vision. In 12 minutes he didn't commit a turnover and I thought his defense was pretty decent. He also knocked down...
In addition to Javonte Brown we will also have Cardwell. Both are centers, Brown is 2021 recruit but will likely reclass to 2020. Who else will be attending besides Andre Jackson?
It’s a really good sign when Recruits use their OVs to visit UConn during First Night. I’m glad to see we are in...
It doesn’t mean much but it’s just great to see him being positive and pumped after going through so much the past few years.
This will be his first full offseason without health issues. I expect him to have a monster year and UConn will need him to play at an all-American type of level.
For me everything UConn does from now, through the 2019-2020 season, and up until the first game of the 2020-2021 season, I will be looking at through the perspective of is the team/program in a better position to make a deep run (FF type run) in the 2020-2021 season.
We added 3 studs in '19...
So I went to the game today, and I was actually surprised by the solid turnout for a game on Super Bowl Sunday, and the fact it was against weak competition. I don't know what the final attendance number was, but I would have guessed there was at least 8k.
Given the weak competition the crowd...
Edsallites were very vocal and supportive of Edsall through most of the year even though the record, stats, and eye test were clearly showing Edsall is a sub-par to bad coach. Now that year 2 is over, I am curious to see what most of the boneyard thinks about Edsall's remaining future here at UConn.
A lot of positives for this team after the first 2 games:
1) Alterique shooting 50%+ so far from the season, and this coming off an injury, and just overall playing so well so early on;
2) Jalen scoring so easily and efficiently;
3) Tarin Smith has been a revelation! Love what he adds to the...
I love what Tarin brings. Good handle, athleticism, attacks the rim, had some good dishes as well. I like the backcourt of Jalen, Alterique and Smith. Those three are dynamic when it comes to the fast break.
I think Vital will still be a key contributor to the team, and I loved his 8 rebounds...
There is a consensus amongst us UConn fans that we expect Jalen to have an amazing year and be the best player on the team. There is an expectation that Carlton will continue to grow and be our number 1 big on the team. Fans expect Alterique to have an immediate positive impact.
Are there...
Back in December 30 2016, I made a post detailing why Edsall was a terrible hire (I copied and pasted my original post below since the thread is now locked). After the 2017 season I feel even more strongly that Edsall is not the right coach for UConn. All of the facts show this yet a large...
So I posted this on TOS, but I think its relevant to post here to:
Ok so I know right now feels like a tense and anxious time for UConn fans right now. There is a lot of strong emotions and some negativity. The emotions stem from the fact that many of us are passionate fans of the program, and...
And he made 24 of his last 28 free throw attempts. This is an amazing statistic in many ways:
1) He's a center
2) He's a sophomore
3) He started the season shooting 6-16 from the charity stripe... that is 38%
To turn a sub-40% free throw shooting big man to making 16 consecutive free throws in...
That is a very apt description of Jalen's ability on the basketball court. With his speed, shiftiness, and acrobatic abilities in mid-air he can slice and dice through any team's defense. There was a point in the game toward the end of the 2nd half where he was determined to get to the rim and...
me + 2 (maybe + 4). Really hope those who live in the state show up.
Also to the good folks who insist on sitting in upper level seats when there are empty seats in the lower level I understand you want to honor the tickets that you purchased (or you really like your space) but you are doing...
Still far from any decision but looks like the AAC is kicking the can on some schools. Blauds names Witchita, Dayton and VCU as possible candidates.
I wouldn't mind adding one or 2 from the list. Would certainly help strengthen the conference bball wise.
I would prefer to add Witchita with...
1) Got there early and saw SMU guys warmup... boy they were making most of their shots. They weren't just making their shots, they were getting nothing but nylon type of shots.
2) Nothing surprising but during UConn's layup lines I am always impressed with the springs that Kentan and Durham...
Was fortunate enough to be able to go to the Memphis game sitting close to the court. I love going to the home games and its always amazing how much more you see live on the court both when the game clock is running and when the play clock is stopped.
Thought I'd share some observations that...
1) switching the defense to zone in last few minutes
2) crowd noise and energy
The zone really threw off Memphis and the crowd noise only compounded their inability to attack the zone.
The home crowd really gave our players some extra energy out there. It wasn't a full house but the crowd...
Only loss was the Auburn overtime game (had 10 FGA), but that one was an anomaly because of Jalen's injury.
Simply put, when the team feeds Facey and he is aggressive in looking for his shot that usually bodes well for us.
#FeedtheBeast.
Hopefully we can get the full one from @Storrs South when he gets a chance.
Just a few notes on UConns highlights:
1) The Brimah double hand block that led to a fast break dunk by Jalen was awesome in itself but it was even more awesome due to the fact that after the block Amida pushed the guy...
Rebounding is mostly about heart. Yes it helps to be tall and athletic but if you don't want the ball more than the other players on the court then you are never going to be a good rebounder. CV is a small guy and not the most athletic guard but he (along with Facey) had the biggest heart on...
ESPN came out with its Top 25 Class of 2019 rankings, and he's #3.
7'2 sophomore with an 8ft wingspan, 36in vertical (I'm little skeptical on this one tbh). He has a longer wingspan than anyone in the NBA.
Where's LaMelo Ball? And everything else to know about ESPN 25 rankings
He plays for...
I was at the game on Sunday and you always get to see some stuff that the cameras don't always catch on tv. Thought I'd share some of those moments:
1) I'm not sure if it was just me, but I thought that national anthem was one of the best renditions I've ever heard live or on tv. That lady...
To average 15pts, 6 asts, and 4 rebounds. Paul Biancardi only named Dearon Fox, fultz, and denis smith. But I responded to his tweet with Jalens stats.
He is in elite company.
Played exceptionally well tonight and all season. Was clearly fatigued in 2nd half bc he just plays his heart out on defense, rebounding on both sides, and now playing a key role in offense.
He is my favorite player and to me he embodies what I envision a UConn player to be: tough, plays his...
I have been viewing this season through the prism of how good we can be next season. Most of the season I thought the trio of Jalen, Alterique, and Larrier would be good enough to make us a top 15 next year. We saw how much one player can make a difference when Jalen was out with his...
As the SMU game approaches I thought this stroll down memory lane was appropriate.
As impressive as that dunk was on video I was there at the game and in person that dunk was gravity defying. Literally looked like he stepped on an invisible ladder in midair.
Hope he has another one in him for...
Athletic point guard, who finishes well around the rim with both hands, and natural born winner. Crazy stat with him being 34-0 since the summer.
Future is bright!
We have one of the best defenses in the country, and as the young guys continue to grow it will only get better.
If we had a somewhat decent shooting team we would be ranked right now (yes I just went there). The past two games we shot 47% (UCF game) and 53% (Temple game), and we comfortably...
