    Where is the UConn Admin?

That isn’t why the end of the PCC happened. And Montana had already left in 1950 anyhow. The PCC disbanded over a major slush fund scandal that touched nearly every school in the league at one point or another (in other words “everyone’s AD was helping its students get paid under the table...

Men Wins needed for a 2023 NCAA At - Large bid

Ice hockey already does something like this which the baseball committee can just do as well. Which is, simply put: games that a team wins that have a negative impact on their RPI are simply ignored.

Men Wins needed for a 2023 NCAA At - Large bid

Yes, that’s the way RPI works. It is purely results driven, meaning that each new data point (ie a game result) added changes some portion of it. However, today’s RPI doesn’t matter for anything or anyone. In some ways, today’s RPI doesn’t exist. Because the formula is known, people can...

What do you mean “will be”? It’s steady been that way. The only thing that’s new about it is that some peoples previously unassailable positions at the top of the heap may not be as strong as they thought.

Men 2022 UConn Baseball @ NCAA Tournament’s College Park Regional (6/3> 6/6). Winner Take All - Monday 6/6 @7p v. Maryland on ESPNU. Audio Mixlr/97-9 ESPN

Generally speaking, the higher seeded of the two teams that would advance. Based on who remains in each regional (Stanford and College Park): Stanford/Maryland, Stanford/Wake, Stanford UConn - remains at Stanford; when #1 seeds both advance, the super goes to the higher ranking in the national...

Men 2022 UConn Baseball @ NCAA Tournament’s College Park Regional (6/3> 6/6). Winner Take All - Monday 6/6 @7p v. Maryland on ESPNU. Audio Mixlr/97-9 ESPN

The answer is “maybe”. The official guideline is as follows: 1) Higher seed of the two hosts. 2) If they’re both tied, and “national seeds” (ie from the #1 seed band), the higher ranked of the two gets it. 3) If they’re both tied, the tiebreaker is a bid process. In this scenario, UCSB and...

Men NCAA Baseball “Road to Omaha” Selection Show (5/30/22 @ Noon on ESPN2)

Yep. It’s unfortunate that what looks like a moderately aggressive non-con, one that any other year might have served us well, turned out to only really have one good team on it. The harder truth is that it looks like we need to be more than moderately aggressive. Not sure whether that...

Men Wins needed for 2022 NCAA At Large Bid

The NCAA selection committees don’t generally go for very strict bracketing, in that #1 overall plays #64 overall, and so on. Only the sixteen regional hosts are technically “seeded” by the baseball committee in a strict rank; the rest are divided into “seed bands” and are moveable within those...

Men Wins needed for 2022 NCAA At Large Bid

This was just an overall crummy year for the non-cons we had on our schedule overall. Lots of teams that, any other year, we would’ve looked good having on the schedule: Pepperdine, LBSU, USC just to name three. With those three in a top 50 or better position, there’s no question that our...

    Men UConn Baseball 2022

The simple fix is to do what the ice hockey committee already does and toss from the calculation games that a team wins that still negatively impact the RPI. Because that’s basically why these games are getting dropped: no matter what happens, win or lose, the better team is going to see...

Men Wins needed for 2022 NCAA At Large Bid

As long as trends continue, I think we are just about guaranteed to make the tournament. If our only loss going forward is in the BET, I’d say we are locked in. Louisville is, shockingly, our best friend here. They have some tough series coming up, against top 10 opponents in UVA and...

Men Wins needed for 2022 NCAA At Large Bid

ARGH. The Big East being bad isn’t why our RPI is so shirt-filled. It’s the non-cons on our schedule being so bad. Nobody seems to really understand how RPI works.

Men Wins needed for 2022 NCAA At Large Bid

Gotta say, any other year, a non conference schedule with Pepperdine, LBSU, USC, USF, Louisville would probably be worth much more RPI wise.

    UConn and the USFL

It actually takes away one of the potential failure vectors for the league as a whole. Realistically, this league is going to have to be successful on TV right out of the gate. You know what sucks for a TV-centric league? Being a ratings success, but half your league owners get cold feet and...

    Men #18 UConn @ Seton Hall Pirates (Thurs. 4/14/22 @11a & Saturday 4/16/22 @ Noon & 3p) Saturday Doubleheader on FloSports/UConn audio > Mixlr all 3 gms

For the record, margin of victory was never a component of the RPI statistic, not even in basketball. It was a component of the selection process by the committee, though. Baseball RPI has the home/road weighting component in it, but its calculated without margin of victory.

Stonehill College headed to D1 Hockey Independent for 2022-23 season.

“At some point” is a very fluid concept, however. Right now, since Robert Morris is rejoining the ranks there’s only one nominal open spot. Utica is looking to bring their whole AD up to DII and that includes their powerhouse-at-DIII-level hockey team, who is seeking to hook up with AH. If...

Men Wins needed for 2022 NCAA At Large Bid

For a point of comparison, UConn was able to host a regional in 2010 (at Dodd Stadium; if we were to try and bid again, Dodd or Dunkin will undoubtedly be the location we try to use; I don’t think we could meet the financial guarantee in Storrs) with a 47-14 record, hosting the regional Florida...

    2021-2022 UConn Men’s Hockey

There’s basically no doubt that we need to win it all. We currently sit at 19 in the pairwise, and it doesn’t appear that a win and a loss will be good enough to flip enough comparisons to get us above 16 where the cut line is 15 and could sit as high as 12. Everyone still in contention in the...

    2022 UConn Men’s Hockey East Tournament > #16 BU @ UConn - Sat. 3/12/22@4:30p @XL Center on CollegeSportsLive

I simply hesitate to say “zero” because there do exist opaque and unknown elements to the formula that COULD create different selections from the “expected” pairwise as reverse engineered by public rankings. But that’s on a minuscule scale.

Being 15th for pairwise purposes puts us in the realm where Bracketology matters. A straight bracketing (1v16, 2v15, etc) has us in the Allentown regional with Minnesota State as our first rounder and St Cloud-Quinnipiac the other pairing. We will be in the fourth seed “band” with BU, Ohio...
