I will admit to being pleased when Ollie's teams started prioritizing transition defense based on nascent analytics a decade ago. But this has been proven to be one of the areas where the college game is much different than the NBA and I was wrong. It is much easier to have a physical advantage...
The 6'6" Swedish thing seems like a copy/paste error from Pelle Larsson, who does happen to be a 6'6" senior 23 year old Swedish SF and is next on the list.
Yeah I was trying to learn more about this a couple weeks back when looking into our offense and was watching some videos and there are several videos of Geno Auriemma chin series plays. And many of them are recent with Paige. So there's certainly a small subset of our playbook that is similar...
Because he's going to be a sophomore, not a junior like when Samson increased his playing time. And more importantly there are 2 centers who were top 50 recruits that are now upperclassmen blocking his pathway to minutes.
Yes, all of the above. Recruiting putting more emphasis on BBIQ and arrival of guys who were just as tough as old Hurley recruits, but higher BBIQ and more skilled. Hurley and Murray developing a new offense not once, but twice. First year of the revolution was more about Hawkins shooting off...
Last year we had 8 former top 100 guys (4 were freshmen) plus 5th years Spencer and Newton. This year we have 10(!) former top 100 guys (3 freshmen) plus 2x All-Conference WCC Jr Mahaney. The guys that end up 6th-11th on this roster are going to be GOOD. The season Talking Heads narrative is...
That's not how it works. The COVID year was a free year, not that you get an extra 5th year to use if you want. Though some people are suing to try and make that case.
He did. Likes his on/off ball versatility, shooting, creativity (a bit lacking with our other guards but Cam and Tristen had it). Was tough to prepare for him 2 years ago. Loved how serious he was about his future and winning on the visit, etc.
I'm not saying it's better to play in NYC than Boston, but it's dumb to say there's nothing to be gained. From that UConn Today article a few years back, there's almost twice as many alumni in Boston than NYC.
Big men take longer to develop and Samson was especially raw coming in. Ross should be much more ready to play. Him not doing so would be a testament to our depth, but could come at the cost of him not wanting to stick around for the following season.
We have 2-3 scholarships available, depending on AK. But last year 2 years (I believe) we banked an extra scholly and we have 10-11 rotation quality players. So maybe a practice body like the recent Euros or maaaaybe a 4 man if AK is gone.
Yes definitely to the first question. Unclear to the 2nd, depends on the jumps that Ball and Stewart take. I think McNeeley in HS this past year was better than Ball or Stewart, their freshman years, yeah.
Mahaney tries, but he's not built to be a good 1v1 defender.
McNeeley similarly is a very good team defender and has size, but won't be a shut-down 1v1 guy.
Reed is an excellent post defender, but just an average rim protector.
Samson is a decent rim protector, but a poor post defender.
Ball...
Yeah if athletes become employees, it would likely drastically alter how Title IX affects them, if at all (other than being responsible reports and the like).
