You must have forgotten the Kevin Ollie era.
Reporter: “Coach, how do you explain your team’s inability to keep the margin under 20 on the road against a good team?”
KO: “We just need to love each other more”
It will be fun to compare the "old" (pre-Diggins transfer) roster vs. the new roster once this all shakes out and assess whether the staff was successful in upgrading the talent level in the offseason.
Thus far, we've brought in one guy who averaged 18 points per game last year in college...
For the 100th time, throw a dart at the Sweet Sixteen bracket and you’ll hit a team that used the portal to fortify at least one position on it’s roster. Do you actually disagree with that?
You’ll be able to charge a lot of money for your Roster Management Consulting business, since everybody...
Complete straw man. We aren’t talking about the New Mexico State game, of course nobody should be happy about that. We’re talking about your absurdly antiquated takes on roster construction, which will look dumber by the day once next year’s roster is actually finalized.
And other people just like to complain. Impeccable timing here, seeing as there is a point guard on our campus as we speak from the PORTALPORTALPORTAL! who is a much better player than the two kids who just left. Your many comments on this topic make it clear that you are surprised by this...
Yeah, he is quite obviously not one of the better available PGs on the portal. But not surprised that people are pretending that was somehow an accurate statement, certainly helps the narrative.
I mean, if you’re going to characterize Cole as a “guy from Howard” instead of arguably the best player on the team, then there’s no point in continuing the conversation.
So your preference would have been to either:
1) bench the guy who ended up making 1st team All-BE, and instead start the lesser player, just so the lesser player wouldn’t transfer?
Or 2) not have recruited RJ Cole (an eventual 1st Team All-BE player) at all.
No coach is going to have one...
When you’re watching guys like Caleb Daniels, Brady Manek, Remy Martin, etc. this weekend, just keep in mind that those guys are the result of poor roster management by coaches who clearly don’t know what they are doing.
So people really do think that the end result here will be that we end up with some point guard who barely saw the court at his previous school?
What exactly is going to be the reaction here when we inevitably land a point guard in the portal who is clearly better than these guys?
I’m going to go out on a limb and predict that next year’s starting point guard (yes, from the portal), will be a better player than the two kids who transferred this week.
And as long as that’s the case, the net impact of these moving parts would be a better roster than what we started with...
Are people under the impression that there aren't 1,000 kids who transfer every year? Or realize that we were one of just three major conference teams that didn't take a transfer last year?
Most teams have 12-13 scholarship players and an 8 (or less) man rotation. There are 4-5 guys sitting...
A major, major problem…
In two weeks there will be about 9,000 point guards on the portal. Most of them stink, but plenty of them don’t. And we can offer them oodles of playing time and a solid team around them.
We’re going to get one of them, relax.
The only teams who actually did this were Creighton (impressive) and Marquette (they just fired their coach, we did the same thing in Hurley's first few years).
The rest of the Big East All Freshman team was the kid at Georgetown (who cares) and our guy.
Nova and Providence did not play their...
With the exception of Duke (who obviously has 5 star freshmen all over the place), all I’ve seen in the later rounds of the NCAA tournament is older teams with short rotations, most of which include impact transfers.
If we have roster management issues, then who doesn’t?
Whaley is easily the best ball screen defending big man that has ever played at UConn. When other teams use Whaley’s man to set high ball screens, they are doing us a favor. Seeing him in person against the Bonnies only confirmed this for me further…it’s incredible how disruptive he is in that...
That is an accurate statement as long as you believe that a) none of our returning players will improve; 2) none of the three top-70 recruits will contribute; and 3) Akok will again not be able to play much at all.
When you start basically recruiting nothing but 4 star level guys, they tend to...
