Players Entering Transfer Portal, As of March 2024

Loyal McQueen played two years at Georgia Tech, two years at Alabama, and a fifth year at a school to be named. Perhaps "Loyal" was not the best name choice ...

Players Entering Transfer Portal, As of March 2024

Perhaps it is not, but having to travel hundreds of hours more to various road games across multiple time zones for the majority of the season may not be appealing to student-athletes. They must balance academics and athletics as it is; adding another "a" -- airplane -- might be too much.

I remember @ucbart telling me about her when she was at Syracuse. He lives in the area. As an aside, check out @ucbart's restaurant if you are in the Syracuse area - The Hops Spot

    Portal Shopping List

I am not sure if @Vowelguy or others have tracked this, but when was the last time UConn had 15 scholarship players on its roster? Of course, given the injuries of the last few seasons, I can understand the importance to UConn of having an incredibly deep roster.

    Charlie Creme's Way-Too-Early Top 25

The flip side is that ESPN is treating women's basketball with the same interest (analysis, immediate coverage, etc.) as men's basketball after the national title game. Having year-round coverage is a testament to the growth of the sport over the last several years.

    Charlie Creme's Way-Too-Early Top 25

With all due, South Carolina lost five starters. Who expected the team to go undefeated? And per @meyers7 's post above (link), Creme had three 2024 Final Four teams in the top seven of his post-2023 NCAAT "too early rankings". Again, it is a projection for next year. He is not advertising...

    Caitlin Changed the Game

But one fact is beyond debate: Caitlin Clark has been a singular force who has grown the women's game in ways no college player ever has before. We've never seen a player sell tickets like Clark, both at home and on the road. We've never seen a player drive ratings like she has. We've never had...

    OT: Transfer Portal Humor

I have been posting on The Boneyard for about 22 years. I have been through multiple iterations of the site on various hosting platforms. I regularly communicate with some of you via social media, phone, text. etc. There were some initial rough patches (the Alana Beard "dynasty" comment from...

    UConn Recruiting Speculation

When it comes to sports fandom (or fanaticism), I say, "We are fans first and, at a very distant second, realists." :)

Christyn sight to training camp with the Mercury

Cunningham was used as a smaller four in 2022. Surrounding Griner with shooters and scorers seems to be the plan (Cloud/Taurasi/Copper/Cunningham, with Allen backing up Taurasi and Copper).

My favorite Lobo moment of this year's NCAAT was her on-air joke about Albany. It was HILARIOUS.

Yes, they are. Although the board does not have the number of posters as compared to The Boneyard, the same themes emerge — why we need her, what Duke has to offer, how the waiting is affecting us, etc. LOL

When you put it that way ... (NCAAT Edition)

The UConn Huskies hold the record for consecutive Final Four appearances, with an incredible streak of 14 straight FF appearances between 2008 and 2022. The current (active) record for consecutive Final Four appearances is 3, by South Carolina. For the Gamecocks to break UConn's record, the team...

Stats to Impress the Boneyard (Dolson)

Stats to Impress the Boneyard: Stef Dolson has made 38.7 percent of her career three-point attempts. She has shot over 40 percent from distance in two of the past three seasons — and 39.4 percent in the third.

    Interesting Comments from NBA Commissioner

Phoenix made the trade for Shaq as a reactionary move to the Lakers' acquisition of Pau Gasol. Duncan hardly clogged the lane. Moreover, that does not relate to the point of my post, which was the trade for Shaq hindered Phoenix's offense based on the Suns' personnel. Not sure how you...

    Interesting Comments from NBA Commissioner

This is one of the reasons why Shaq's tenure with the Phoenix Suns was nowhere near a success. Under Mike D'Antoni, Phoenix ran a lot of five-out on offense, with Steve Nash as the conductor. Nash was free to roam through the paint with four other players cutting or using screens to get open...

Coaches to watch in 2023-24; Hotseat edition

It is not just that retention is an issue, it is her top players are now starters on other ACC teams. Maria Gakdeng (11.3 ppg and 6.5 rpg for BC in 2022-23) is a starter at UNC. Taina Mair (11.1 ppg, 4.7 rpg, and 6.6 apg for BC in 2022-23) is Duke's starting point guard.

    Attendance Update across P5 WCBB

When I was a Duke Law School student, tickets for all Duke sporting events (except men's basketball) were free for graduate / professional students (I believe all are free for undergraduates). If this is true at other institutions, the "paid attendance" may not reveal much if the crowds have...

    End of Year Awards

A few days ago, @ucbart texted me and @EricLA with his hot take about Aaliyah Edwards being Big East POY. She has been a dominant force but in such a workmanlike, unsung way. I would be thrilled if Edwards won BE POY!

    End of Year Awards

As of today (2/14/2024), I think Kitley wins POY and Hidalgo wins FOY. For COY, however, I am going to offer another name -- Felisha Legette-Jack. Picked to finish ninth in the ACC preseason poll, Syracuse currently sits in second place. At 10-3 in the ACC, the Orange have already secured the...

Stats to Impress the 'Yarders: Napheesa Collier

As noted by Her Hoop Stats, from 2009-2010 through 2022-2023, only ONE player in women's college basketball averaged at least 20 points, eight rebounds, and one steal on 65% shooting (min. 20 games played) for an entire season: Napheesa Collier (2016-17) Her Hoops Stats noted this in the...

    WNBA 2024 season

A few key points: Natalie Achonwa's $155,100 salary is off the books as is Aerial Powers' $201,984 salary; both are unrestricted free agents in 2024. Diamond Miller and Dorka Juhasz are on rookie contracts for the next few years, which also helps MN's salary cap situation. With Collier...

Paige slips to 3rd in draft projections

Interesting trade idea. From LA's standpoint, it might also require a 2025 draft pick. Also, Shepard's propensity for missing games would be concerning to the Sparks' front office.

Paige slips to 3rd in draft projections

In terms of talent, this draft has a ton of it ... but only if players do not use the extra COVID year. For Los Angeles, Nneka Ogwumike is an unrestricted free agent (and cannot be cored). Chiney Ogwumike is an unrestricted free agent (with a litany of injuries). Katie Lou Samuelson is an...

    Harper vs Lawson.

Ashlon Jackson, for one. Celeste Taylor, for another. Emma Koabel, for a third. Development takes all forms. For some with elite natural ability, it is harnessing that talent. For others without as high of a ceiling, it is maximizing the potential they do have.

    Beruuuuube (so close!)

Princeton's win over Oklahoma was the fourth win over a Top-25 team in program history -- and the third in the last three seasons. Berube is responsible for 75 percent of Princeton WBB's victories over Top-25 teams. @HuskyNan , @EricLA , @ucbart
