Michigan basketball coaching search is speeding up

Sorry but he was hired because he had just won an award from the NCAA for turning around UB’s APR. Susan and the BoT actually believed that the NCAA would reduce the APR ban because of the hire. And BTW there are very few college presidents who have presidential experience. Occasionally it...

Michigan basketball coaching search is speeding up

What do you mean? He’s a rock star!!! Rock head is more like it. Now do you believe he was hired at UConn because he won an APR award at Buffalo?

Michigan basketball coaching search is speeding up

My guess is Cooley didn’t get an offer. Otherwise there is no chance he turns down Michigan. As far as the tweets from NBA guys we got the same nonsense when Ollie was hired. Those guys don’t get that coaching college isn’t the same as in the NBA. But when you read a guy withdrew from...

    Does Coach K suck?

The freshman thing is really what hurts him in the tourney. Hurts lots of teams. Like Kentucky. You load up on 1-done and you win lots of games but the pressure of the tourney is different and upperclassmen are a necessity to succeed.

College Football Playoff drought has Big Ten athletic directors pushing for change

I’d go with a 12 team playoff. Every league champ plus a couple of wild cards. Top 4 get a bye but must be conference champs Wild cards must play in round 1. I’d cut the regular season back to 11 games too

College Football Playoff drought has Big Ten athletic directors pushing for change

You do know that they did exactly that in the 80s. Well not exactly but close. They put a limit. First I think 100 then reduced it to the current number. The reason was that a few schools were loading up while others didn’t get guys. Johnny Majors was one guy who mastered that. Even people in...

College Football Playoff drought has Big Ten athletic directors pushing for change

There is always a problem with any strength of schedule rating especially when you have a small sample. A bigger sample doesn’t make it go away. Just reduces it some. Basically it is circular. A win over a bad team in a perceived strong league counts more than a win over a bad team in a less...

College Football Playoff drought has Big Ten athletic directors pushing for change

College football has basically evolved into a 2 team show. Nobody cares that the Big 10 champ gets left out except the Big 10. Personally I think the current setup is wrecking the sport long term because it has resulted in sidelining virtually every program but 2. And made winning a pseudo...

College Football Playoff drought has Big Ten athletic directors pushing for change

Couldn’t happen to a more corrupt bunch. They and the ACC are to blame for the demise of regional rivalries that were the lifeblood of college sports.

Hockey East athletic directors to consider coaches’ request for 11-team playoff format

I am actually in favor of earning your way into the NCAAs. I have argued on the hoop board that if you don’t finish in the top half of your league and have a winning record you have no business getting an at-large bid. But a league tourney isn’t the NCAA tournament. If you are going to award...

You mean like having a losing record in the league? That kind of crappy?

Exactly why one should read the fine print. LOL. My argument stands none the less.

Hockey East athletic directors to consider coaches’ request for 11-team playoff format

Just about every other sport with a post season tourney uses the all in format. Pretty sure all the other hockey leagues do. I would buy the argument if you only took 4 maybe but let’s face it, the argument loses some merit when the 8th best team in an 11 team league gets into the tourney. It...

Can NCAA handle hoops scandal? 'It's time to get this right' (Yahoo)

I suspect that the folks running college sports will eventually manage to kill the golden goose. Let’s face it. The “solution” will be to create a professional pay for play system. Ultimately it won’t be sustainable because it will lose its college association and fans will start to realize that...

    Strange thought: make NIT relevant?

Time to put the NIT out of its misery. Even the teams that get there don’t much care. I don’t get this boards fixation with Madison Square Garden. For major schools it is a consolation prize at best and for mid majors it’s mostly team who won the league but lost their tourney. If you need more...

    Proposed Rule Changes

Sound mostly like rule changes in search of problems. And NO MORE INSTANT REPLAY!!!! I’d get rid of it in its entirety or get rid of refs and let our robot overlords make all calls.

    Kentucky Derby drama

Embarrassing day for yet another sport due to instant replay. No way in hall do any of those glue buckets catch him. and the guy that filed the complaint wasn’t going to get close. If anything that bump got him to 2nd. It would serve them right if Maximun Security wins the next 2 but isn’t a...

OC Frank Giufre and some of the offensive coaches take a look back on spring practice and what expectations are moving forward.

Blue, I agree. But I like a late season tailgate before a game with something on the line better. Haven’t had one of those in a while though.

I think we have 2 things. First, this explains the Cal Tech penalty. Second college basketball has ceased being about “college” in any real way. Until some plans to do away with 1-done/transfer nonsense this stuff will continue

    Edsall talks talent deficiency

Pasqualoni was a “state pride “ thing. Bad hire but the athletic community in the state was going to back him to the hilt. Not unlike how most were slow to pick up on Olli’s deficiencies because he was “family.”

Oh stop. An old friend coached at LSU a few years ago. He is retired now but coached several places including a stint with Alan NFL team that has been to more than a few Super Bowls. At LSU They had 7 offensive plays base plays. They stressed A. Execution. B. Execution C. On field...

Ollie Suing Glen Miller for Slander

Upstate will from now on be referred to as Tauro Nakamura the last Japanese holdout discovered in 1972. Upstate will be arguing Ollie should have stayed or at least be paid in 30 years.

Dude Look where the program ended up and where I said it would end up if Ollie was given the job for which he was utterly unqualified. AAC vs ACC Bowl Game @ Fenway

I wrote 28 k. More like 20 in the seats. Heavy UConn presence. What I remember most is it was one of those dripping cold rains. Even when it let up a cold mist hung around. You couldn’t get warm.

AAC vs ACC Bowl Game @ Fenway

It wasnt bad at all considering neither team was that good and it was a miserable evening. Alternated between a cold rain and a cold drizzle. I think around 28000 in the building and I can say that everyone I met there from both sides really enjoyed the atmosphere.

UConn Lands WR Transfer Tim O’Shea III
