    2021 Pre-Season Camp begins July 30th

My guess is Z and Krejewski. Based on zero but just a gut feeling.

Now THAT is a straw man. Villanova is to the NEW IE what Gonzaga is to its conference. Head and shoulders better. If you look at their conference record, the fact that they have won or shared every NEWBIE regular season got to the championship game 6 of 7 years, are only one of 3 teams to get...

Houston Chronicle exclusive: Texas, Oklahoma reach out to SEC about joining conference.

It is a Pyrrhic victory sadly. We are in a regional league when regional leagues are small time. It fine. Most UConn fans seem happy. We are most likely going to the tournament most years because, well, we have more and better facilities than the rest and deeper pockets. But the days of...

Oh yeah. That’s a perfect schedule. It would be really cool if dollar trees really grew dollars and you could fly if someone threw pixie dust on you too. In a new combined AAC-B12 league our division would likely be Temple, Cincinatti, Navy, UCF USF ok East Carolina ( nobody likes them but...

Or not giving a darn about the fact that baseball basically plays a high school schedule now.

It would be WAY better than the NEWBIE, but would mean we don’t have an automatic NCAA bid every year. We’d actually have som good opponents.

The AAC isn’t a short term alternative certainly, but as a long term merger partner it could work reasonably well. pretty clear East West split. Respectable football certainly. West Virginia, Ok St, Cincinatti, Iowa State, UCF, Memphis, K State, Houston. Very good basketball, certainly equal to...

If possible, the Big East needs to add:

so 5 million more than the NEWBIE. Yeah Kansas is coming!
  10. F

Should the BE make a play to add West Virginia?

Nonsense. They don’t want football at all. It’s why they had such severe buyout provisions if UConn wants to leave and even restrict our ability to negotiate with a P5 league. Look the NEWBIE is about men’s basketball. Nothing else. It doesn’t care about any other sport and positively hates...

Texas & OK ask to join SEC?

I guess. One would like to think that this return on investment stuff is not the reason one selects a college, but hey, to each his own I guess. Not everything can be monetized though. Nor should it be.

What happens to Big 12-Big East challenge?

You did read the piece about the AAC being “aggressive” in acquiring the left over Big 12 teams. Or have you been too busy reading about how Richie Springs will be better than Michael Jordan because someone saw him, or someone who might have been him but maybe was just some guy who looked like...

I would make them stay. They absolutely want this to be settled and just write a check. You can get into those negotiations or you can just say this is the contract. Live with it. Nobody has really been willing to hold the line but the Grant of Rights is a little more complicated. Makes the...

Houston Chronicle exclusive: Texas, Oklahoma reach out to SEC about joining conference.

I think this is absolutely right. And guess what? When only 2 leagues are getting 69-70 million per team that money will spill over to basketball too. Somebody write that the New Big East will come out of this as the best basketball conference. LOL. like the one eyed man in the land of the...

Houston Chronicle exclusive: Texas, Oklahoma reach out to SEC about joining conference.

The flip side is the B12 fights to keep Texas and Oklahoma in the gor deal for 4 more years. That would be my strategy. Then who knows what happens…Maybe the SEC gets tired of waiting and lands Clemson. Maybe Texas continues to struggle on the field and the SEC says we don’t need another...

OT: Predict the 12-man USA Roster

Good grief. Some of you guys are idiots. Of course a college team would lose but hey this team of B-squad NBA all stars got smoked by France. Lose by 1 lose by 40 doesn’t matter. This crew came in, didn’t learn the rules. Didn’t play hard. Thought they could win by showing up and everyone would...

Embarrassing performance. They lost to France. Imagine losing to France. Might as well go back to using college kids. At least they will give an effort.

Not exactly. If it was about the “ best teams” Texas wouldn’t be on anybody’s list at the moment. They haven’t really been a threat at a real high level since 2009. 2018 was good but not top 3-4 good. It is more a case of a Brittany Spears/Oprah/Whoever the current hot girl singer is or NFL...

I have a couple of thoughts on this entire mess. First A&M…nothing says big time like having your conference mates keep you in the dark while they negotiate with your hated rival. wow! Just wow! 2nd I don’t know why but I have a sense that Oklahoma has seen it’s last days as a serious power...

UConn men’s basketball guard Jalen Gaffney looking to make big improvement, seize his moment as a junior

I’ve seen it enough times, but it would be great to read a piece someday titled “ Jones expect to ride the pine again after bad summer.” Every year everybody is going to be great after impressive summer workouts that would make an NBA All star team faint. Usually we see modest improvement...

And somebody explain why a school from a the 33rd most populous State with a football program with 3 winning seasons since JOINING THE BIG 12 is attractive to a conference trying to maintain football importance?

Texas & OK ask to join SEC?

It may not be the case forever, but currently the Big10 is the richest media deal. They get $55 mil each compared to say 46ish for the SEC. This move likely changes the game but Ohio State will be fine. To me the interesting player in this is Clemson. 10 years ago it was Florida State but...

Texas & OK ask to join SEC?

Guys, Its at most 90 minutes to Hartford if there is road construction. Its Bad enough they play half the home schedule there. Maybe we should build a domed stadium in Wallingford and one in Newtown. That way they can play near everyone…of course the fans in Canaan will complain then.

Houston Chronicle exclusive: Texas, Oklahoma reach out to SEC about joining conference.

Problem is that the Big10 has at least some minimal standards. They aren’t touching Clemson, which actually makes sense to the SEC, and Florida State is unlikely too. Another SEC alternative. I could see Virginia, Carolina, Duke, Georgia Tech maybe. And the SEC ain’t taking Pitt.or NC State.

That’s for sure. They have ruined a number of rivalries already. They’ll do it again in a heartbeat.

Houston Chronicle exclusive: Texas, Oklahoma reach out to SEC about joining conference.

If I were the PAC I would make a major push for Texas and OU. That is a conference that is in danger of irrelevance. USC is on again off again without sustained national importance. Oregon’s funny uniforms have brought some success but not the serious ability to challenge the real powers...

How new NCAA transfer rules have coaches changing the way they recruit

I’m not sure Hurley’s model works under this new rubric. It is now more than ever a game of assembling a team of “free agents” each season. I think it is going to be much worse for football, where player development is critical, but I think Pearls analysis is probably right.

A deal will be made. ND will sue claiming the ACC violated some contract provision or other thus voiding the deal. They will ultimately work out a payment. And remember, ND basketball is not even close to the top 5 most valuable property in the ACC.

Houston Chronicle exclusive: Texas, Oklahoma reach out to SEC about joining conference.

Big 10 payout is +- $55 million/ school. so that’s 1 year of media rights. It will be negotiated down plus the Big will bring pressure. They’ll work it out if they want to go they will go.

As we have learned, nobody is struck by a contract they are motivated to break. Norte Dame will do what is best for Norte Dame regardless of any contract. UConn will be kind of interesting I suspect. I mean I could see the SEC also reaching out to Clemson and maybe FSU or somebody. If ND...

A successful 2021 UConn football season would be

That would put us in a very small cohort the way the current rules are to favor offense. It used to be that if you scored 35 you probably blew the opponent out. Now it indicates that you lost by 3 touchdowns.

OT: Way Too Early Mid-Major Top-24*

The other thing is when you look at the tournament, there are a bunch of upsets most years but they aren’t really upsets based on ability. They are based on perception. Just so you don’t throw it up, yes, there are in fact some real upsets, UMBC over Virginia types, but often they are equal or...

OT: Way Too Early Mid-Major Top-24*

There are good teams, pretty good teams and to be charitable, not so good teams.. The idea that a team is “good” because it is in the NEWBIE and not as good because it is in say the MVC is crazy. Yet very bad teams like DePaul and Boston College are considered “majors” while better teams are...

Fun fact. Since joining the original Big East, DePaul has had 2 winning seasons and zero NCAA appearances. Fun Fact. Since 1992 DePaul has been to 2 NCAA tournaments. Since joining the Big East DePaul has had 2 post season appearances. One was the 2007 NIT. The other was the 2018 CBI. Or...
