I was up on ARKK earlier in the day, but it closed way down again. Big tech did well. Microsoft, Amazon, Apple.

UConn President Thomas Katsouleas will leave post, sources say

That is pretty insulting to Michigan State. It’s endowment is 3.4 billion, dwarfing UConn’s. It’s ranked #80 in USNews and is not much less competitive than UConn. It is a bigger research school than UConn. It’s just a very poor example. CCSU, SCSU are never going to get in the ballpark of...

    Richie Springs sticking around

He isn't going to be a 3 unless he wakes up some day with Kevin Durant's skill set. But if he develops skills for the 3, it will make him a better 4/5. Love seeing this story. I'm rooting hard for Richie have a meaningful impact as a UConn player. You have to appreciate those guys who put...

UConn President Thomas Katsouleas will leave post, sources say

Sure, but there is some lack of foresight involved in that. Virginia brought William & Mary in as a state institution in 1906. Second oldest school in the country to Harvard. Trinity dates to 1823. That sure would have been a sweet school and campus to bring in to the state and build out...

UConn President Thomas Katsouleas will leave post, sources say

I see some problems along this line. 1. Connecticut doesn't have a Michigan State, Kansas State, Iowa State, U Cincinnati, etc. level public behind UConn. The drop off from UConn to Central or Southern is massive. The smart move would be to rebrand one of those and put money into it...

UConn President Thomas Katsouleas will leave post, sources say

Agreed. My sister is a researcher and professor for UGA (at Savannah River Site) and when she was at Colby in Maine won top teacher at the school from students two years in a row. If you've got passion for the field, you can be great teacher and researcher. But it helps if those "classes" are...

    Kemba is finding his groove

I disagree on Kemba, agree injuries have killed them. Healthy Kemba is an ideal fit. The team loves him and his scoring takes pressure off of Tatum and Brown. The problem is he can't play very much. That is absolutely killing them. You can't win playing a backup PG, with a 3rd stringer as...

Your college basketball team needs a bucket, who ya got?

I have to go to Lew Alcindor here. Shot 64% in college. That sky hook is as money as it gets. Kemba deserves consideration among the rest as a clutch player. Never saw Pistol Pete, assume he was money. This is for their college selves. The middle row shouldn't be on the list. If you...

I bought some ARKK and some ARKW. While the rest of my portfolio has been bloodied further this afternoon, those are holding right at the price point where I bought. Hoping that signals resistance. When I look at where things are vs the 52 week high, lots of things are still near that high...

It is certainly true. I still remember when bitcoin launched. I recall reading an article about a kid who asked for Bitcoin for his 13th birthday and his parents bought him some. For his 16th birthday they let him buy a Ferrari or something like that as it was worth a couple of million. I hope...

    Having dinner with two Huskies

I considered Sue Bird, because I think she'd be interesting. She's done so much, won NC, won WNBA title, Olympic Gold. Just an epic career really. Chose Pikiell because he was at UConn when I was, and as an active coach at Rutgers I'd love to pick his brain on the path he took and the current...

    Having dinner with two Huskies

Ha! I was unaware of that bullet point rule. I do think this question, posed to a board with many young men, is almost designed to elicit that response. "Who do you want to have dinner with" can be read as "who would you want to go on a date with"?

The question I have is when I buy more ARK, to dollar cost average down. I am definitely still long those funds over time. @Da_Aisijimo_Gou any thoughts? I am wary of trying to time the market. Sold some stuff today to free cash to go back in on ARKK and others.

Agree with all of that. Definitely think it would be fantastic if he comes to UConn, for both him and UConn, and in some ways to build interest in the fan base that isn't what it once was. That said, Dan Hurley is going to need to adapt to Clingan, not the other way around. Change his...

I feel like Katie Lou Samuelson belongs in the discussion for this line of thinking. And Swin Cash. To avoid the creepy old man answer, I’ll say Kemba and Steve Pikiell.

    What are you binge watching?

Started The Bad Batch, but can’t binge because it is released weekly. There are several Clone Wars episodes that are nearly essential to understanding it. My daughter knew those so I caught up and we are watching together.

I think it has advantages because it's more user friendly. The hardcore crypto geeks usually prefer other exchanges and means of purchase. That's fine. The growth is all going to come from newbies, who want an app and website that work like every brokerage or bank app and website they have...

Yes. This is the smart play. Unfortunately, it is also difficult. The company to buy is called Plaid, and unfortunately it is private. Visa tried to but it for 5.3 Billion, but now it has been valued much higher in a recent funding round. Plaid valued at $13.4 billion in new funding round -...

Normally something labeled a store of value is not volatile. Bitcoin is highly volatile. I get the analogy, but it doesn't really work in comparison to Gold. Lots of things are scarce and worthless. I am debating cashing out of mine and looking at other crypto. Just fired up my offline...

I played golf last Monday and as we came through the back nine, two HS golf teams were teeing off. All had masks. Outside on a breezy day. Just beyond absurd really. I have friends with sons who run track, and they wore masks at outdoor meets. Crazy.

OT: What changes are you and family making to your lifestyle due to coranavirus?

These two keep arguing, but again, back on topic. The Wall Street Journal has an interesting article on breakout cities. This is exactly what I expected would happen, even before the pandemic, as work from home was already a trend that the pandemic just accelerated dramatically. Greenville, SC...

    Beer Thread

I went to Vitamin Sea Brewing in Weymouth, MA a week ago from Saturday. Started drinking the beers this weekend, and have to say they are stellar. It's too back it is take out cans only right now, thanks to MA regulations. I gave Modern Love 5 stars on Untappd. Highly recommend these.

OT: What changes are you and family making to your lifestyle due to coranavirus?

No. I think it’s a function of the job you have, how much of your social life is connected to work and how your workspace at home functions compared to the one at work. Teaching should be in person. The teachers I know missed interacting with the kids. For me, when I’m working 95% of my...

    Tacos

Agree with small towns. I’d be surprised if any cities lacked at least one good Mexican restaurant, even if it was a regional focused place that may not be to your liking. When I lived in South Boston, a great Mexican place opened up less than a block away. A well known food truck guy had a...

How Kevin Ollie’s new gig at Overtime Elite may change NCAA basketball (Paul Doyle)

Sort of. In 2019 the total revenue was $18.9B for every NCAA school, but only 25 schools had revenue that exceeded expenses. https://www.ncaa.org/about/resources/research/finances-intercollegiate-athletics It is not a profitable endeavor really. And even that total revenue annually is less...

How Kevin Ollie’s new gig at Overtime Elite may change NCAA basketball (Paul Doyle)

It is also why the debate has become ridiculous at times. "We bring in hundreds of millions and so deserve $x". Nah. Put every player in college basketball and football in uniforms of minor league pro teams and that revenue would be a tiny fraction of what it is now. People are cheering for...

OT: What changes are you and family making to your lifestyle due to coranavirus?

Anyway, we kind of derailed this and I think Tom will come nuke it if it continues on this path. The question we discussed in the spring was life changes, work, home, family, travel, day to day. I am curious what changes you think will stick and what will change back. An example is apps...

OT: What changes are you and family making to your lifestyle due to coranavirus?

I mean, it is theoretically possible. But people keep confusing what is possible (being struck by lightning or say Chinese space debris) and what you need to worry about. Even with unvaxxed people, spread outside isn't anything to worry about. Never was.

    COVID Vaccine Thread, the Sequel

Honestly, I would not while the vaccines are available under an Emergency Use Authorization. My daughter got a Moderna shot, and I had some misgivings about that, but she's 18 so it was her call. Her chosen college plans to require it. The risk from Covid-19 for a child is so low that I...

    Game of Thrones - Rewatch

I saw a few videos, but one was very clear that the situation in the books was entirely different. Talisa isn't in the books. The show runners replaced Jeyne Westerling, who was evidently a very different and more minor character. Game of Thrones' Robb Stark Wedding Plot Hole Explained...
