Ayana Patterson 2022 #3 Ranked Player UConn in Final 5

Did you have a dark roast today, Coco? That came out a bit harsh 🙀 ;). Given that ND doesn't have a chance to win any more actual games this season, the best way Niele might ensure winning some more games in the future would be to continue to pitch Ms. Patterson and other 2022 targets hard...

Ayana Patterson 2022 #3 Ranked Player UConn in Final 5

The NCAA announced that it was hoping to get out of the dead period by June 1st and they group in charge of said things would give some direction to all concerned by mid-April. So, like you, I'm kind of scratching my head that folks who aren't quite sure -- or might want to see where they're...

Ayana Patterson 2022 #3 Ranked Player UConn in Final 5

Coco is, of course, spot on. In my parochial mindset for Notre Dame, I've got to think the recruiting shut down/dead period rules hurt Niele and Michaela (Mike) Mabrey, ND's recruiting coordinator, in pursuits of players like Timea Gardiner (from Utah). Opening up the focus, that's true of any...

    Iowa @ #10 Indiana - 3/03/21

Left- and right-handed hard lay-ups, along with a finger roll extension. And then the pull-up lean in, sometimes with a regular jumper and sometimes a one-handed push. It's like checking off a catalogue of possible shots. And then there's the jumpers. If and when Paige and Clark...

89-80. Iowa: Clark 32, Czinano 20. Indiana: Berger, Holmes, Patberg all with 22. Holmes hits the daily double with 11 rebounds. She's got some sweet posts moves and a baby hook. She shot 11 for 13 from the floor.

    Iowa @ #10 Indiana - 3/03/21

Real foul. She got her arm hooked in with Gulbe fighting for a rebound. The 4th was questionable: Cardano-Hillary made a mild push off look like a takedown.

    Iowa @ #10 Indiana - 3/03/21

Oh wow, Clark out with five fouls. 79-75 IU. She finishes with 32. IU has three with 20+: Berger, Patberg and Holmes.

79-72 IU. Clark just called for her 4th foul.

    Iowa @ #10 Indiana - 3/03/21

Oh, let's go 5 vs. 2. CC and Monika Czinano, although Megan Meyer just hit a 3.

    Iowa @ #10 Indiana - 3/03/21

4 of 5 IU starters are in double figures. and the one non-double-scorer, Gulbe, just put one in. Holmes has some great spin moves and touch on that hook.

    Iowa @ #10 Indiana - 3/03/21

No one else on the floor is on Clark's level (not a lot who are), but back at the human level, Berger has steadily improved year by year. Love the way Holmes goes left or right with equal aplomb.

    Iowa @ #10 Indiana - 3/03/21

IU trying prevent Clark from getting the ball. Period. If she does get the ball, she's going to go. Oh my gosh, she closes out the half and nails a 35-something-footer that has the commentator yelling. She has 19 at half and Iowa has a 43-38 lead.
  13. Dillon77

    Iowa @ #10 Indiana - 3/03/21

Both teams zip the ball around the perimeter time and time again until they see a cutter or the post gets a seal. Gulbe and, especially Holmes are the beneficiaries for Indiana and Iowa finds their posts.

Somewhat down the line, I fully expect U.S. National Team Coach Cheryl Reeve to have both of themon the court playing for the US of A. As for now, they'll both do what they have to for their respective teams. Should be a good game. I think Indiana takes this, in part becaue they also have...

Who are your top 5 freshman?

That's a pretty solid Top Ten (and full team if you take your whole post). Westbeld and Cardosa were just named ACC rookies of the year. Brink has made Stanford better once inserted into the starting lineup Johnson is really in control for Rutgers. I'm impressed every time I see her. Edwards is...

    Marquette Postgame Thread

Oh, you're a sly one. ;) As many on this board know, I'm a big Megan Duffy fan and was hoping Jack Swarbrick, ND's Athletic Director, would interview the ND alum trio of Niele, Megan and Beth Morgan Cunningham. when MM decided she was going to move on. He chose not to go this way, in part...

    Marquette Postgame Thread

During the February 5th game at Marquette, Geno commented in his post-game comments that he thought the Huskie's execution was perhaps as good as he had seen up to that point in the season. The damage in that 87-58 win was done primarily by the guards: Paige B. had 30 and Christyn Williams...

    Latest committee top 16

I watched as much of the Mississippi-Kentucky replay as I could stomach. (On the other hand, the Georgia-Florida game was an unexpectedly fun track meet.) And KY moved up two slots after losing? Say what? Does anyone know what score it is? Does anyone really care? (bring in the horns now)...

    Prognosticators Game 22 (Marquette) Predictions

Yeah, I bet Coach Megan Duffy is thinking the same thing. Her seniors want to play better this time around and they will, making it closer. 76-62 Huskies. Expect soph post Camryn Taylor to play hard, too.

Good interview all the way around, from her appreciation for Paige to what her two seniors bring to the mix and the work/fun balance inherent in team sports. #11 Indiana @ #15 Ohio St - 2/27/21

Ohio State had a 56-51 lead after three and then IU goes on a 36-19 blitz in the fourth to wn at Columbus. Grace Berger and Ali Patberg have 20 and 19 and 5'6" guard Nicole Cardano-Hillary scores 16 and has 11 rebounds. Basically a 5-person team, but they're in sync right now. Play Iowa and...

    February non-UConn Recruiting Thread

Agreed on both fronts. Niele, when she was in charge of recruiting, started looking at Patterson at any early age. However, my gut tells me that MM would've also kept contact with a player like Grace VanSlooten, just down I-80 in Toledo. With Niele, it's all in on tall athletic small/forwards...

    February non-UConn Recruiting Thread

Darn (well, actually stronger than that). This was a bit of an uphill battle for ND, having been the only non Pac-12 member of the "initial six." ND had sent post coach Carol Owens to Chile and she's kept in touch, but the pandemic probably didn't help ND any, since Gardiner has not been known...

    Florida St @ Notre Dame - 2/25/21

FSU made a run in the late fourth -- when all sorts of Irish players lose whatever focus they had -- but had enough of a lead to win. They also had Maddy Westbeld nail a killer 3 and hit foul shots, to go along with leading in rebounds and assists. Olivia Miles had some issues with FT's, but...

2021 McDonald's All American Team Announced

Proud and happy that future Irish Sonia Citron made the team. ND probably would've had two represnttatives but Oliva Miles decided to "join the Bend" early and has suited up the last three games. Irish fans are very happy about that, too. 👍 😎

    National Coach of the Year

Can't argue with most of the suggestions made. I'll add/comment a few coaches who I've made a note of. B1G Teri Moren of Indiana U because she always seems to do a bit more with seemingly a little less, or at least a little unknown. She lost upperclassmen guards Bendu Yeaney (to Arizona) and...

    Marquette @ #24 DePaul - 2/24/21

Marquette, now 17-4, is playing it's best ball of the season. I watched them defeat Creighton the game before this. The Blue Jays had just beaten DePaul (on the road, I believe) and Marquette handled them easily, so this win didn't shock me. Did it surprise me that the Warriors outscored DePaul...
