I bet UCONN has a good intramural team that could hang with them.....

Totally agree with this. Except for a handful of athletic programs with true national brands, college athletics thrived with regional alignment and conferences. That has been ignored and I really think there is going to be a price for it.

It's going on a quarter century since they have had any meaningful success. Conte was another UCONN home site in the Big East days. Honestly, I'm over the whole BC hatred thing. They are in a great conference and we are not. In the new world of college athletics they will see nothing in the...

Sure, but I think most of us don't want inflation to reduce our standard of living over time. To your point, I think as you really get on in years inflation is less of a concern as you're probably not going to Europe or getting a new car in your 90s.

That's exactly right, but at the time that investment was made, inflation was much higher, so in real terms the yield on that bond was much less although I would imagine more than real yields are today. Obviously, in hindsight it was a great investment in today's environment of ultra low...

It's not going to end well for a lot of folks. There is no doubt in my mind that there are a lot of newbie investors that have not a clue how this all works. Think of folks who have an unhealthy predilection to gambling. This is really no different and it has more of a feel of legitimacy -...

    OT Running

I totally get the concerns around the pounding from running and I've been playing hoops for years 2-3 times a week. At 61 I realized I needed to find other forms of cardio activity. I didn't cut out the running and hoops, but I've curtailed them and I have to say I feel a lot better. The bike...

I read a great book years ago titled Younger Next Year. I'm not one for self-help books, but this one was really good. It addresses health as you age and one of the great points of the book is that what constitutes an active life style is often very different from one person to another. The...

    OT Running

61 and I am still playing hoops twice a week (until COVID suspended that) and running/jogging 2-3x week. A couple of years ago I got into biking and that has really helped. Honestly may not go back to the basketball post COVID because my body feels better from less pounding on the floor...

Really good article in the WSJ last week regarding SPACs. Long and short is that those structures are very advantageous for the sponsors.........not so much for the follow-on investors.

Uconndogs agrees. Uconndogs is not opposed to speaking in the third person, although Uconndogs is pretty sure that Uconndogs’ wife will say cut that crap out if Uconndogs starts referring to Uconndogs in the third person around the house.

I never met the man, but I’ve seen a bit of his work. I think his ability is in question too.

Purdue fires defensive coordinator Bob Diaco after one season

I doubt he’s a bad guy. But, he was completely over matched for the job at UCONN. That’s on Ward.

Thinking about former UConn defensive stars, we had some really good ones.

Absolutely. And were it not for the stingers he was getting I think he probably sticks around in the NFL a bit. I also wondered if he got too big (near 250 if I remember). They put him inside and he probably needed to get bigger for that.

Thinking about former UConn defensive stars, we had some really good ones.

Absolutely right Coach. He and Butler were probably as good a pair of corners as you would find at that point in college football. Loved it when Butler laid the wood to RG3 at the Rent. It drew a flag from the Big12 ref, but they were on the take anyway........I kid........kinda

Cincy and the other G5 programs do not have the same path as P5 programs. They don’t have the same access to scheduling and they don’t have the ability to recruit (because they don’t have the access to the BCS series). The playing field between the P5 and G5 is not level. As currently...

I have never really read much of the services that speak to what to buy or sell. They never made sense to me for two primary reasons. First, if they truly could pick winners and losers they wouldn’t share that information. They would access capital and trade on whatever proprietary process...

Yes, you identify with a program and conference that are both competitive at the upper echelons of college football. My point is, what of the eyeballs that don't identify as you do? The University of Memphis fan, the Washington State fan, etc. Those fans may be very connected to their...

    Same old Notre Dame

The question for college football is whether that G5 fanbase and the fanbases of the many P5 programs that are uncompetitive lose their allegiance to college football. Do they perceive that the deck is so heavily stacked against their program that they feel disconnected? If that happens then...
