I am a fool for saying this, but I have to believe that the votes to admit UConn were vetted beforehand and that UConn was not going through the campus visit process only to be told NO once again. There is no way the UConn president would subject the school's honor and reputation to that yet...
This will be an ironclad deal involving investments, not wins and losses. They will have to commit to paying the coaching staff like other B12 schools.
The only other investment I could imagine is forcing UConn to build an on campus stadium?
Tim Coles.
Loved how a 6'6" muscle bound kid could go toe to toe with the big of the Big East.
As a sophomore, he had 2 games against Patrick Ewing, and in the first he had 19 points and 12 rebounds, and in the second game, 18 points and 5 rebounds.
He put up 16 and 15 against Otis Thorpe...
I've been watching since the 1970s and this is my favorite game PERIOD outside of the National Championships.
The program was in a deep dark hole prior to this game. We were left behind by the ACC. We were suddenly conference mates with really weird schools. Calhoun was gone. We were banned for...
As a parent who just completed 13 visits with his daughter on the road this summer, good luck young man (I don't blame him for taking 13 visits). As a complete aside, we once had a job candidate who drank too much and in confidence told me he loved taking campus visits and once ordered the most...
I have an Ego lawn Mower and a Snow Joe Snowblower. The Ego works great, and the SnowJoe is great... except when the battery pops loose if I jostle it too much. Because of that, I bought another battery in the second slot, which keeps me going until I finish a run and can them push the battery...
I forget. I just checked their menu and there are only 2 stouts there now. There were 4 the day we went. And there's no Pilsner listed now.
Everyone who was with me couldn't cut through the alcohol in that over 10% stout.
It was a Russian.
I was there a few weeks ago and I was most impressed by their stouts too... but the winner was their pilsner. The best pilsner I have ever had. It was incredible. One of their stouts, though, I forget which, was overpowered by the alcohol content.
I bring a little kid with me to every game, even if it's not mine, maybe a neighbor's kid, for this very reason. I've been waiting decades for a ball... if I get one I'll give it to the prop kid and no one will drag me all over the internet like that famous lady.
The Greek players don't play well with Giannis' style. They did really well against Slovenia and others to qualify, without Giannis playing. Half the team plays for Panathinaikos which just won the European Championship, including Giannis's brother Kostas. So--as far as Int'l bball goes, they...
Have you checked this? Because I have.
You're thinking of declining enrollment.
Enrollment is totally different than applications. Applications are skyrocketing everywhere because kids are applying to 25+ schools with things like Scoir and Coalition.
I can send you a dozen articles on this...
Every school in America has skyrocketing applications. $90m is an incredible amount of money for a university. They slash and burn entire departments for $10m deficits
It’s not only UConn. There are a lot of schools in this boat. For years schlubs like Bilas talked about players not getting their value according to the market. He never discussed expenditures though and here we are talking about players sharing revenues, not profits.
This is beyond BONKERS!!! NCAA settlement details payouts, revenue sharing
$33m revenue shared with athletes? And some schools are already losing $30-40m a year? And Kessler gets to audit every college's books to make sure they are complying with the payouts in revenue?
Insane.
This annual...
What a bizarre universe we're in. Schools are approaching a demographic / enrollment cliff with less money than ever to fund the school and we're seeing massive increases in scholarships and payments to players at the same time. This is madness.
In football, this will change things, in basketball not much change.
But we saw schools like Nebraska hoarding in the past. They used it to their advantage. I know with transfers that it was much easier for schools to move on from kids on the roster, but I'd never underestimate the willingness...
They are going to crush the non-P4 football schools.
There will not be enough good players to compete. EVER. And smaller P4 schools are going to have a very difficult time paying these guys and giving them free scholarships, especially now.
This is a cut-throat move.
Traditionally, in the past, yes.
It would be great to see this rivalry fire up again.
An argument can be made that St. John's used to be a bigger rival than Syracuse. Certainly bigger than Providence. In fact, before St. John's fell on hard times this century, it was probably UConn's biggest rival.
This isn't extra money over and above their financial package. In other words, it's not money you make above tuition, room and board and fees/books. It's a federal program. It's not there for you to earn money as employees. The schools are obligated to provide you with work once you're approved...
My point is, if they're that stupid to mess with the tournament and risk the loss of a ton of money, they will always do this anyway no matter what happens with the current lawsuit against the NCAA
If they are going to hold a 32 team tournament without UConn, Villanova, Gonzaga and several others, it's not going to be worth a warm bucket of spit.
But whether they do this or not, it really doesn't matter whether the NCAA is paying or not paying former athletes. Or if the NCAA even exists...
There's way too much to be said in this discussion. But we're discussing things on the aggregate here and a payment scheme with a cap for ALL athletes on the team. The money is capped, it will be uniform.
We're not talking about compensation for Zion Williamson here. The deal is $20m per...
Some schools are saying, NOT SO FAST...
https://www.sportico.com/leagues/college-sports/2024/house-v-ncaa-settlement-delay-1234789396/
Jay Bilas is blasting the little poor schools for holding things up.
Having read the arguments of the minnows, I'd say they are pretty good. Why did Kessler...
$900k per TA
The intersession stuff was only there to show you how much revenue they generate.
Not a discussion if it should be happening.
If universities got rid of TAs for tenured faculty, costs would skyrocket.
But again, $900k PER TA.
