    Next Book

In the last 4 weeks I've finished Thackery's Vanity Fair, Tolstoy's Anna Karenina, Hardy's Jude the Obscure, Trollope's The Warden, and Dickens' Our Mutual Friend. I'm not necessarily tied to reading a work of "classic" literature, but I like something that has an audiobook I could take out or...

    Briefzzzz: O Pioneers!

Well, the season is underway. That first half was rough, we can all agree, but as Tennyson's Ulysses says, Danny made sure the boys continued "strong in will / To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield" and they ultimately came out on top. I wonder if that's because Dre wasn't in the house...

    Football Options

They're aren't entirely killing football, one way or another. So until we know what is happening with football, we can't entirely assess this move. 1) Complete Kill --> already been said not an option. 2) Back to FCS --> highly unlikely 3) Independent --> we've kicked this around, and if this...

OT: Eugene Omoruyi transfers from Rutgers in dead of night

https://www.app.com/story/sports/college/2019/05/29/rutgers-basketball-eugene-omoruyi/1268151001/ Odd to see a rising senior who has not graduated transfer, this late in the game. Particularly when that player seemed to have strong relationships with the coaching staff and that player was the...

    Technology Question

I'd like to be able to control my iOS Powerpoint via my iPhone. I can't seem to find an app that does that effectively. Anyone know of one? Also, I'd like, ideally, to be able to see an manipulate the slide from my phone, since I use action buttons.

    2019 CBI

A number of posters were reading and raring to the CBI. Though we didn't accept an invite, USF did. After winning a high-profile matchup against Stony Brook in OT, for which USF paid to play and paid extra for a home game, the Bulls put together a better all around game against the Wolverines...

Memphis and Wichita in the NIT

Memphis got a 3 seed. They get our old nemesis San Diego, and then the winner of Creighton/Loyola. Wichita got a 6. They get Furman then the winner of Clemson/Wright State.

Best and Realistic Expectations for Tournament Credits

Now that brackets are out, how will the AAC perform? Best case? 3. Houston This isn't a terrible draw for them to make the second weekend. Georgia St. should be an easy win. Iowa St. is underseeded, but they should be able to beat them, and as always there's a chance that Iowa State won't...

    NIT

Highly unlikely. It would be nice, though, if they took into consideration that the team was 1-7 without Adams and 15-9 with him. 15-9 isn't NCAA pace, but keeping that pace would have gotten them in the NIT. NCAA takes into consideration injuries; it'd be nice if the NIT did as well.

After a number of blowout Euro trips, we're keeping it simple For a while we have wanted to go to Chicago. Our very rough outline is a trip that does, in the broadest sense: 1. Detroit 2. Chicago 3. Milwaukee 4. Minneapolis. Other than Chicago, there's a lot of flexibility there. Anything I...

Haiku Review Update: Wine on the Keyboard...

Near the end of composing the Haiku Review for the UML I spilled some win (sangiovese) on my keyboard. All my notes, at the moment, are lost, and I don't have time to start again. If and when my computer is recovered, I will post what I had.

    Days since...

***this should really be titled "Time Since"...oh well*** @tcf15 had the "days since" bit about beating a ranked team. It was pretty sad, but thankfully we've finally made that irrelevant. But it got me to thinking about a couple of other things we used to do regularly but haven't in a while...

    Poet's Corner: Haiku Review

Son of Robert: Linked haiku to tell one story is certainly a part of the Japanese tradition, and the piece doesn't leave the reader with odd or weak line ending words like 'a' or 'of': each one serves a purpose. But still, there are weird oddities here. The lack of punctuation seems a...

    Hip-Hop Evolution

If you like Hip-Hop at all--or at least in the evolution of pop music--it's worth watching this documentary series on Netflix (HBO produced). The first four episodes came out two years ago and looks at the origins in New York up through Run DMC, Rakim, and Public Enemy in the East, and then...

    Solo (Spoilers, duh)

So, I saw it with my wife last night and...meh. Some of the reviews say you it's seamless and you can't tell there were multiple directors, and that's just off. The movie never feels coherent: it feels too explainy too often. Start with that train scene, which was fun. Cut all that Corelia...

    Federer

I guess we're all just so used to his winning that it doesn't shock us anymore. In the last year he's made his record against Nadal such that their one-on-one really shouldn't come into conversation for GOAT. His win against Nadal in the Aussie Open really gave him breathing room in the title...

    AAC RPI

Just looking at the conference, we don't have a lot at the top (though I think Cincy will rise) but the middle isn't that bad. If ECU and USF could get their act together (and UConn and Memphis too) this conference would be in good shape. This is the ESPN RPI as of January 16. RPI 16 Wichita...

I hate this place after losses

This was an embarrassing game, for sure. BUT one result doesn't make things that different. This is the same team that needed late heroics to beat Stony Brook, played well against what will be a borderline tournament team (Oregon), and played well again MSU for a half. This was a crappy game...

So I'm heading to Croatia with my wife for 10 days in late June/early July. We have a friend we went to high school with that we'll stay with in Zagreb for two nights. We plan to spend some time in Istria, Plitvice, Dubrovnik, Split, and the islands. Has anyone been? We tend to like...

Favorite Obscure Song from Great Band

I'm thinking of bands well known, and a song people who owned an album likely skipped over. There are a bunch, but I don't really know anyone else who loves "Long, Long, Long" by The Beatles as much as I do. Not my favorite Beatles song, to be clear, just one I find most people aren't as...

Okay, now who do we root for

There are currently 19 teams left, as right now UNI is playing A&M tough and Xavier/Wisconsin have a close matchup (Oregon/St. Joe's still on deck), we'll soon to be at 16. Another post touched on this, and there are slim pickings. I could live with 1-11, really. The other would be various...
