I grew up in northeast CT. At 15 I moved to central NE with my mother. There, I discovered and fell in love with college football and the Nebraska Cornhuskers. Just in time too, because the Huskers soon set out on a 4 year dominance of the game, that included 3 NC's. Great times for sure. But, one day I was driving late at night and I was listening to a sports show. They soon ran down the list of collegiate football games. I heard Connecticut defeats Iowa St. I thought it was a mistake or I misunderstood. They aren't even D1A I thought. I started researching. I was pumped about what I was finding. I soon started cheating on my first love. I had something new that felt like it was always part of me. Watching UConn grow, evolve and climb over the years has been just as fun to me as the 3 NC's from the 90's. Don't get me wrong, I still root for Nebraska and watch their games. But if there is ever a choice to make, its predominantly UConn. I don't look up their off season info with any regularity. I rarely buy their gear. If I have to choose a game between the two, its UConn. I basically had a table reserved for years at the original Ozzie's Restaurant and Sports Bar in St. Louis. Every game day, a buddy and I would show up. He had a screen for Ohio St, I'd dog them to find UConn. They would and I loved it. We'd catch side eye from all the other fan clubs, including the Huskers, who'd show up. I don't know why, there were over 70 tv's in the place. Plenty to go around, even for the upstarts.
The years "11, "12, and "13 were a gut punch to me. In my opinion the reason we've been "relegated" to our current affiliation. I believe it will just make it all the more sweet when we do find our place. And we will, I have faith in the administration that they'll right the wrongs, like they have in the past. They'll keep the program moving up. I love touting the accomplishments of the teams, school and state to anyone who will listen. For what it's worth, I love the block C. I bleed blue.
