Time has healed a lot of those old wounds, IMHO. There is still support for UConn within the ACC. UVA, and, the NC schools, specifically. It is generally thought that FSU, Miami, GT, and, Clemson are against you. Not sure about the others.
At the time of the expansion that brought UL to the ACC, their FB program was having a good couple of seasons with Charlie Strong, while UConn was struggling. I really do believe it was that simple. Had the roles been reversed, UL wouldn't have gotten in, IMHO.
The ACC's refusal to add WVU...
Respectfully disagree. UConn's academic rep is not affected by associating with the likes of ECU, or, UCF. Nebraska's ranking does not affect anybody else's in the B1G, either.
Sorry to not respond for so long. I had a family member who was very ill, and, he just passed away three weeks ago. So, it's been awhile since anything remotely approaching mormalcy has been seen in these parts. All of that said...
I DO believe that some in the ACC are having buyer's remorse...
You have that exactly right. We never cease to remind them. UConn's potential is unlimited. Your basketball speaks for itself, as do your Olympic sports. Football and baseball would grow here.
I'm stubborn. I still believe you will end up here.
There were whispers of a ND-type deal for Texas in the past, but, I never placed much stock in them. As for Wake Forest, none of the original ACC members are ever going to vote to get rid of them. Almost any scenario you all can envision that would bring UConn into the league, I'm ok with...
I like this scenario. I still hold out hope that UConn will be in the ACC. You're a perfect fit.
Yeah, yeah, I know. Silly, optimistic Tar Heel fan. Guilty as charged. :)
I've never made excuses for what Carolina has done. Nor, will I. If the NCAA decide to drop the hammer on us, so be it. For what went on there for so long, we deserve it.
That said, the NCAA is not what scares me. SACS...The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools...scare me more...
The point being, the B10 made it known to all listening, that AAU membership was a MUST for any new addition to the league. They knew Nebraska were losing their AAU status during the invite process. Yet, they invited them anyway.
Just my limited view, but, when the B10 accepted NU without it...
LOL...this narrative hanging on from the addition of Louisville is laughable.
But, the B10 adding non-AAU Nebraska showed a real commitment to academics, didn't it?
You hit the nail on the head. Plus, the fact that nobody in the ACC, even the original ACC, saw them as their biggest rival.
There are those of us within ACC fanbases, particularly Carolina and Duke, who'd see UConn as nothing but an upside for the league. How Swofford was unable to sell...
