OT: What was your first job as a teenager?

My first one was a bit unusual. I hauled coal in buckets from a basement bin to a coal stove in a third floor walk up (triple decker) for an elderly widow friend of my grandmother. She cooked and heated her space with the coal only. I did this for 3 years and passed the job on to my younger...

What's the best sporting event/game you ever attended

Easily, the 1998 World Cup game between Argentina and England. It was the first athetic meeting after the Falklands War. Tension you. Could Cut with a knife and passions galore. Beckham red carded, MIcheal Owen's break away goal, considered the second goal in World cup history. The game...

Naming rights for XL Center expire; venue likely to change name in 2025.

A long time Whalers and UConn ticket holder. Even was there the night the roof collapsed, and followed the Whalers to Springfield. UConn alum and lifelong die hard fan. That being said, I have no opinion on the name. Just do it right, the rebuild, the naming, and financial terms. Amen.

OT: What sports don't catch your interest?

Women's field hockey, especially at lower levels. A series of whistles interrupted by play. The sole exception was an absolutely incredible 1976 MEN'S Montreal Olympic final between India and Pakistan. It was the closest thing I've ever seen to war. Men's field hockey has vastly different...

Legendary Music Venues in New Haven

I fondly remember one of the best concerts I have seen Janice Joplin in Woolsey Hall at Yale. Very special.

    OT: Early fandom

I started listening to the Huskies in 1959 with my Dad on the radio. It was either WATR (Waterbury) or WTIC. Been loyal ever since. Graduated in 71. I used to listen to them on WTIC in Hamilton Ont in a rental car on the escarpment above Lake Ontario when traveling on business. We moved to...

    Heat Pumps

The solution we decided on for our 12 room 2 story 4,200 sq foot 1850 farm house with a natural gas single zone forced air system was a ductless air sou rced mini split system. It is a series of 5 external units some with mutiple heads others are single . They range in size from a single 12K btu...

    Heat Pumps

I live in Central New York (and still a rabid UConn fan) with a solar panel system and a ductless mini split system in a 4,200 sq ft 1850 farmhouse. Both have been installed over a year and here are our results. We used our back up heat (a natural gas ducted furnace) just 2 days last winter...

THE song that means a lot to you

Jimmy Buffet's COME MONDAY. I was just married and had a job assignment in LA two full weeks every month. It became our theme song. A very lonely time for us. It still makes me cry every time I hear it even after nearly 50 years.

    shoulder

Wife had a 100% rotator cuff tear (caused by playing in a bounce house with 2 grandsons at age 70) and the surgeon she ended up with does 15 shoulder a week. Experience is everything. Also slept in a recliner for nearly 3 months which saved her and our marriage. Good luck.

    OT: DIII sports experience

We had three sons go to top academic schools and all three were involved in DIII sports. Two swimmers and the other ended up in crew after looking at golf and swimming. While the sports component of college was fantastic and it enhanced their experiences. The education was the key along with...

    Official Syracuse Unintended Hilarity Thread

I was born and raised in Waterbury Uconn 71 (wife Stamford Uconn 74). We moved to CNY in 1989. I have been an avid Huskies fan since 1959. We enjoy both men and women's teams and follow them closely. We resisted a strong temptation to placing a large sign on the end of a barn that read...

Newest Husky Ines Bettencourt [Merged thread]

My wife and just spent a week on Sao Miguel in June. A stunningly beautiful island and the temps were 70 and 63 just perfect. Two great golf courses and really cool volcanic hot springs. Very very affordable. The euro is at par with the dollar. First night I ordered a 8.50 glass of wine. That...
