    USF Postgame Thread

I am still concerned and disappointed that Jana now seems to be in the cleanup crew, but it appears that ship has sailed. I wonder where Ice will fit into the post rotation when she becomes healthy. It's also clear that Geno likes the "small" lineup with Sarah at the 5 and probably Blanca at...

    Villanova

I didn't know that Watson was injured. How long is she expected to be out of action?

    UConn-Xavier postgame thread

As I recall, it occurred right after Blanca had beaten her to the basket. Xavier was down by a ton of points then, and she may have felt humiliated. She was going to get a blocking foul anyway, so I thought her instinctive reaction was along the lines of "I'm going to get a foul, so I might as...

    UConn-Xavier postgame thread

The only thing wrong with her play was her fouls. Apart from that, she played a normal game, using her main skills -- chiefly powerful drives to the basket. With so many other players shooting 3's, that is a good complementary skill that she offers to the team.

    UConn-Xavier postgame thread

OK, I'll start. Does the substitution pattern definitely indicate that Jana is no longer in the regular rotation? She did not appear on the floor until midway through the third quarter. After Serah got two fouls in the first half, I expected to see her, but she was glued to the bench. Is she...

    A New Starting Lineup?

And don't forget that Morgan and Ice should be back sometime this season, and certainly next season. I think Morgan (if fully healthy) is a serious candidate for a starting role, but Ice is probably only ever going to be a reserve forward.

VIDEO: Geno Auriemma Pregame Zoom - Xavier

I was surprised by two of Geno's comments in this video call: 1. He disparaged the value of playing top teams during the regular season, and specifically said that the losses last year to Tennessee, Notre Dame, and Southern Cal did not help the team to win the National Championship. Really...

    A New Starting Lineup?

I think there is a good reason for Blanca to enter the starting lineup as soon as she is consistently under control (as she was against Utah), and that reason is SIZE. Blanca clearly is a capable rebounder, and I think the Serah/Jana pair (one or both) will become as capable at rebounding as...

    Utah Postgame Thread

Regarding Blanca and her play against Utah today: If Blanca can play the way she did today against good teams, then she is the third scorer that Geno and the Boneyard have been looking for. I am as impressed with Ashlynn's floor game as much as anyone, but if both she and Blanca play to their...

    Utah Postgame Thread

Regarding Serah Williams's offense: Having attended both games this weekend in person, I can understand the concern about Serah's offense from the low post. To begin with, I'm not sure why Geno (sometimes) has her set up in the low post at all -- wouldn't it be better to set up at the high...

    Michigan Postgame Thread

I have now read this entire thread, which feels like it warrants an Olympic medal for endurance. I would add the following thoughts which have not been offered already: 1. In Geno's post-game press conference, he stated that this was the first game this season in which UConn got no...

    Michigan Postgame Thread

You are forgetting that there is no "circle" in WBB any more. That rule was repealed two years ago. Now it's just a straight charge/block call as it would be anywhere else on the floor. The announcers correctly commented on this. In real time, watching the game live, I thought both offensive...

The pump fake, dribble drive, travel

There is a difference between trying to get control of the ball (and not succeeding) vs. having the ball fully in control and then deciding to dribble a second time. Until the player has full control of the ball, the dribble does not and cannot start. It's like a pass receiver in football. If...

Game Analysis - Game 5 - UConn vs Michigan

I have now watched a replay of the Michigan - Notre Dame game. My first observation about that game is that it was not nearly as lopsided as the final score might suggest. The fact that Michigan won the fourth quarter 28-12 (and thereby changed a 23-point margin after three quarters to a...
