Mullins is on a team where he is not the offensive focal or first option. He can get those numbers but not in Hurley’s system. My take is that he has to get more shots driving, and pulling up plus his 3’s to get us where we need to be.
How many FG attempts did Mullins get in the second half? He was 4-8 for the game. Except for Reed down low he should have the most shot attempts. And he hardly ever gets to the line either. Can he drive it? He’ll make the foul shots.
So you’re telling Hurley to learn how basketball works too? Watch his postgame. He said exactly the same thing about the way the game was called, St. John’s “style” that works for them in the BE and the foul discrepancy and joked about getting fined for talking about the refs.
We foul so much and go to the line less against those opponents that are athletic drivers, it’s their game plan.
There is only one thing I can think to do from an offensive standpoint. Did you notice that when the clock is winding down Mullins goes up for a shot inside the line or wherever he is...
They had 1 less game in the last week or so. Hurley actually mentioned that not as an excuse but he held back on practice. This is not a catastrophe but we need to attack weakness. The free throw thing is a problem that defies a quick solution.
We have the best coaches in the game but my message to Mullins is to just score the ball any way he can. He has to be more selfish. If he is completely shutdown then distribute for the best shot chance. We have other capable shooters and if Mullins drives then defenders will sag to rebound...
Look, we will have a fighter’s chance. We are not 24 and we don’t have Clingan. He down low especially on defense was not replaced. It shows on rebounding, starting fast breaks, and blocking shots. Does Zuby get 21 points on Donovan? Nope. So…. Against good teams it will be interesting.
