I've always been told by landscape guys that fall is the time to attack your lawn. Crabgrass doesn't do well in cooler weather. Kill it with a chemical along with other weeds and rake it away. Then over seed. This is what they tell me but over half my lawn is crabgrass and I've come to accept it.
